Hulse Brecher

“Hulse is my Right hand man! Without him, I wouldn’t get half my jobs done! If he were organic, he’d be an Arapaima Thiren! Or A lobster! Or … Something else Big, Old, an’ Tough!” - Tsukuru Naosu, Kintsugi Salvage and Reclamation Co.

Hulse Brecher was constructed around a century and a Half before the Fall of the Old Capital, and was intended for Entertainment purposes, as the star of a show known as “The Heroics of Sir Hulse.”

Over the course of the show’s production, several Cast members fell sick with Corruption symptoms, and the studio was investigated. Hulse was integral to the investigation, as the Producer believed him to be a subservient machine, but Hulse was programmed to be a Hero, not a lackey, and when entrusted with documents of the producer’s illegal doings, Hulse alerted the authorities and refused to let the producer leave until Pubsec arrived.

After the Producer was arrested, the Studio shut down and Hulse was left without a purpose, until his “queen,” His Co-Star Gyndolin Brecher, on the show that had been exposed to tremendous levels of Ether through her make up, bought him and made him a bedside assistant. Over the next few years as her health degraded, Hulse eventually surpassed the Forbidden fruit test, and became her good friend, and learned about the world through her.

At the end of her life, the woman told Hulse he was on his own now, and asked him to protect and serve the world and its people as he had pretended to do so in the show.

Hulse accepted on one condition; that he may take her name so it could be carried forward for future generations. Miss Brecher allowed it and not too long after, she was gone.

Hulse, now alone with nothing but a promise, took to Eridu to help people in anyway he could.

And he helped in nearly every way possible.

He was a mailman, sanitation worker, Teacher’s assistant, janitor, he worked with the White Star institute and helped them discover Qingyi and her Sisters - something that would save his life later - he was part of the Defense Force and retired with honors, he was part of the HIA for a time.

When Eridu Fell, he was among the first to volunteer his efforts to get people out - personally saving over a hundred people alone, and many, many more with help.

In his last endeavor through Hollow Zero to save survivors, he came across Neo-Genesis VI units, with a single one functioning - Langyi, number 14. She was barely functioning, and he had to cannibalize several of her sisters that had been beyond repair to get her functioning. Together they rescued a handful more of people, and made their way back to an HIA outpost and were attacked by a particularly large and vicious group of Ethereals.

In their efforts to defend the people in need, Hulse was pinned by an Armored Hati, its claws digging into his chest. He swung at it, chipping the armor and almost knocking it away when it bit his left arm.

He has no more memories of that day after that moment. The next thing he knew, he was waking up on an old steel workbench, unfamiliar hardware in place of his left arm. The long, articulated orange arm he has now.

He had been repaired by one Tsukuru Naosu, a red oni.

Langyi, and some very brave, very grateful survivors couldn’t leave their hero behind - they managed to clear the last of the ethereals, and carried him to the outpost.

Naosu insisted that Hulse take the arm and live his life, but Hulse refused to leave such a debt unpaid, and so He joined Naosu’s company - Kintsugi Salvage and Reclamation.

That is his history to modern times, and while The Heroics of Sir Hulse might not be known to all but a small handful of people in New Eridu, the name Brecher is one that’s well Known in the Faunus Quarter, and can get you out of a spot of trouble if you know who it belongs to.

Basic Attack: Jab Repeatedly press basic Attack to jab with his Lance. The Fourth his is a heavy attack the deals Ether DMG.

Basic Attack: Thrust Hold Basic attack to Charge his Lance. Upon being Fully charged, Hulse launches forwards with a long, fast thrust, dealing Ether Damage that pierces enemies. Hulse is Invulnerable from the Front while charging this move.

Empowered Basic Attack: Lunge If there are charges of Iron Will, Holding Basic Attack to charge the Lance. Upon being Fully charged, Hulse launches forwards with a long, fast thrust, dealing Massive Ether Damage and fires an Ether Shot that pierces enemies. Hulse is Invulnerable from the Front while charging this move.

Dodge: Disengage A Quick Dash Dodge The character is invulnerable when using this move.

Dash Attack: Ram Hulse hits the Enemy with his shield, Dealing Physical DMG

Empowered Dash Attack: Balestra Consuming a Charge of Iron Will, Hulse thrusts forwards, dealing Ether DMG.

Dodge Counter: Feint Hulse Swipes with his Lance, dealing Physical DMG

Quick Assist: Close the DoorWhen the On-Field Character is launched press Assist

Defensive Assist: Crash Guard

Assist Follow-Up: Collision Hulse slams his shield down with his shield, dealing Ether DMG In a small shockwave

Special Attack: Browning Shield Press Special Attack to activate. Hold Special Attack to remain in Guard Position. Hulse plants his shield in the ground, blocking the enemies attack before striking back with the Pommel of his lance, dealing Physical DMG. Successfully blocking an enemy Attack engages a Block Counter, dealing Massive Physical DMG. Hulse’s Anti-Interrupt Level increases while using this skill, and he is invulnerable from the front.

Ex Special Attack: Bumper Guard With Enough Energy, Press EX Special Attack To activate. Hold EX Special Attack To remain in Guard Position. Hulse Plants his Shield into the ground, blocking Enemy attacks before butting enemies with his shield dealing Ether DMG. Successfully Blocking an Enemy attack will grant a Charge of Iron Will, and engage a Block Counter, dealing massive Ether DMG. Holding EX Special Attack To remain in Guard Position Consumes energy. While in Guard Position with enough Energy, Hulse Absorbs Projectiles and slowly Builds charges of Iron Will. The Character is invulnerable while using this move.

EX Special Attack: Hard Charge When in Guard Position with EX Special Attack: Bumper Guard, hold a directional Input. Hulse will charge with his shield held ahead of him at high speed. When colliding with an enemy, Hulse deals Ether DMG. When out of Energy, releasing EX Special Attack, or colliding with an Enemy that is not interrupted by this attack, Hulse bashes with his shield and performs a thrust with his lance, dealing massive Ether DMG and gaining Two Charge of Iron Will. Hulse is Invulnerable from the Front and while performing Strikes with this move, and Absorbs Projectiles.

Chain Attack: Role Call Hulse pushes the tip of his lance in the Ground, firing it once, causing a shockwave in front of him, dealing Ether DMG and Granting a Charge of Iron Will.

Ultimate: Teardown Hulse steadies himself with his Shield, planting the tip of his Lance in the ground and firing it several times, causing large Ether Crystals to sprout from the Ground in front of him. This fills all Iron Will Charges, and deals massive Ether DMG.

CORE ABILITY: Infallible Defender

Energy Regeneration Increases with Defense.

Over time when on-field or when Performing Certain Actions, Hulse will gain Charges of Iron Will. Iron Will boosts Energy Regeneration and EX Special Attack Damage, and Anti-Interrupt Level for the Onfield Character, increasing with each level of Charge. The rate of and Iron Will Gain and Energy Regeneration from Iron Will is based on his own Energy Regeneration.

Whenever there are Charges of Iron Will Available, whenever the On-Field Agent would be interrupted, a charge of Iron Will is spent instead, and the attack deals no Damage.

Additional Ability: Oath of the Protector When another Character in your party can Perform an evasive Assist, has the Support Specialty, or is part of the same Faction, Hulse starts with 50% of Iron Will charged.

06: Heart of Gold Iron Will Gains and Additional Charge, and builds faster if another Agent takes Damage. Hulse writes another name into the Ledger of Kintsugi’s customer log. He also writes it into his own, old notebook. Notes taken about attitude, physical description, and purpose of visit are written down, one more among the hundreds of people from his over-a-century of life, each one preserved in a snapshot of the Day-to-Day comings and goings, and carried on well past many of their ends.
