Doodled this back in October. I haven’t been able to work on anything outside of my actual job. Translation is tough work.

I entered the Lightning Returns art contest on DeviantArt for fun.
The "close-ups" above are really just everything at 100%. I really wanted to go for a different style, but I didn't have much time.
I finished up my linework and colors on the final day. If I had had more time, I would've actually, y'know, designed her kusarigama instead of letting it be the plain thing that it is here.
Originally, I was gonna go for a Cie'th/crystal stasis-inspired dress. Buuut, the ideas in my mind weren't translating to paper for some reason, so I scrapped that. For a couple days, I mulled over what I could possibly do that would be somewhat unique. Every design I had seen at that point was of armor or dresses. Doing what everyone else's doing is boring. So, that's how monk class Grandmaster Lightning came about.
It seemed natural, since I love martial arts. I combined elements from various martial arts uniforms and Asian clothing:
Cropped top for a more feminine look. Cropped tops on male characters (e.g. Sai from Naruto, Touya from Ayashi no Ceres) always make me wanna scream. That was my inspiration. I'm serious. Oh, and my old Korean hanbok top with knot buttons.
Harem pants, because it's considered fashionable right now.
Headband with a bow, 'cause Lightning likes being cute, too. It makes me think of vendors and taiko drum performers at Japanese festivals......
Sarashi (bandages wrapping her torso) for typical anime badassery.
A sash from the wushu uniform. In some martial arts, red is the highest belt. But in all honesty, a black sash isn't very eye-catching when it's paired with blue and white clothing.
Tasuki (sash to hold up kimono sleeves) simply for aesthetic.
Tsukamaki*-inspired shoes, which are like tabi/sneakers. Bright and eye-catching because fashion. If I had more time, the shoes would have decorative metal toecaps. (* katana hilt wrapping)
Diamond kamon just because.
Kusarigama (weapon) made of crystal. I was thinking of the glass weapons in Fire Emblem: Awakening. They break easily. LOL.
Coming up with the alternate colors was pretty easy as you can see from the last pic.
Special thanks to Tifa (my action figure).

For Rooster Teeth's RWBY movie poster contest. (I probably should've added a tagline or something...)
I wanted to create a movie poster that could double as a nice anime DVD/BD cover.
Frills are the devil, BTW. I don't know how many times I had to redraw that skirt until I was okay with the way it looked.

In all seriousness, I should do thumbnails more often.

Will you be Cloud's valentine? (Too late?)
LOL. I think I'm having too much fun with this...
The shaky line effect in animation is called "boiling", apparently. Anime tends to abuse this, and I probably will, too. I made it my first exercise, since it's pretty easy to do in Flash.
(I wonder if Flash can export high quality GIFs...)
The linework isn't done yet. I still need to add screws on his shoulder.
Next time, I'm gonna try to animate his hair or make him blink/change facial expressions.
(Full-sized version)

Flash makes it too easy to waste time on perfecting lines. I think I spent 5 hours tweaking the lines, and I'm not even done.
I've been thinking about the unfinished FFVII comic that I had drawn a few years ago, and I thought it would be pretty cool if I could create an animated version of it in Flash. I'd have to rewrite the entire thing, though... because everything is still on my dead external HDD. :<
(My friend wrote a fanfic that centers around the same concept -- Sephiroth flying in circles -- which our other friend came up with.)
For now, I'm gonna practice basic animation...!!!
Special Note to Followers: I've changed my username from pixelmecha to yunadayo to yunachan.

Totoro master-copy painting WIP (2011 and 2012) -- acrylics on canvas (18 x 24"). Yep, it's still a WIP, but it's getting there. I started working on it again last week. My goal is to finish this before I head back to Austin; I'm not too sure how realistic that goal is, though. I know that the leaves will be hell to paint (or rather, mix paint for), so I think I'll just try to finish Totoro and the girls for now...
Some changes:
Added yellows and browns to give the painting more life.
Changed Totoro's fur color to a more greyish color and made him a little fatter. (More accurate.) Still need to add more coats to make him solid, though.
Used lighter and darker colors to add more contrast.
Started painting the girls in. lol.
Sadly, since I eyeballed the reference image when I did the rough sketch (instead of using a grid like some people do), some things in the painting are a bit off. It's been bothering me, but I wasn't aiming for accuracy when I started on this. I just wanted to practice painting and have something to hang up on my wall. Haha~ :3

I haven't posted in a while, so here are some WIPs.
I doodled Sailor Moon back in August. I tried to ink it so that I wouldn't have to do line art digitally for once (it takes a whole lot of time for me to do line art on my tablet), but the crappy paper I doodled on just wasn't working for me. So, I have to trace over my lines digitally. orz Usagi's Super Sailor Moon fuku is my favorite. (And yeah, I know her skirt is supposed to be white, yellow, and blue.) I drew her without a reference, so she has way more pleats in her skirt than she should. o_O;;
The 2nd pic is of a commission I'm doing. Even though my friend told me she really liked it, I'm not satisfied with it. I think I'm just not used to looking at shoujo art anymore. Shoujo anatomy is really messed up: eyes make up almost half of the face, heads are wider than waists, shoulder width is only about 2 heads wide, etc. It's hard for me to restrain myself from correcting everything to look more anatomically correct. I might redraw the entire thing or something... Maybe changing their eyes would help. I'll just have to see when I get to the coloring part (when all the flaws become incredibly apparent).
3rd pic is of a long overdue art trade I should've finished last year. But, Stocke gave me a lot of difficulty as did the idea of drawing the background. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why Stocke frustrated me so much. Rainie and Marco actually have far more accessories and details... I must've been burnt out after drawing them and blamed it on Stocke and his giraffe neck. lol.
Once I get a job, I'm definitely saving up for a Cintiq.

Updated Korroh WIP -- Mako, Bolin, and Asami included this time!
Anyway, I'm a character artist, and backgrounds aren't my thing. I need help in figuring out what to paint for the background. (Or, I could just leave it like this. Ha! But, that would be lazy of me.)
So, about this piece so far... It's been quite the challenge for me. Anytime characters interact with each other in the form of hugging or intertwining limbs/fingers, it's very difficult to draw -- at least, for me, it is. I had poses in my head that I specifically wanted, but as always, I couldn't find a reference online to help me along. I had to reference myself by posing in the mirror and drawing whatever looked right. LOL.
I originally planned to include Pabu, but um... I don't think he'll fit. He'll just throw off the balance. Actually, scratch that. I just came up with something, but it'll depend on what the background will be.
P.S. If you've been following me on Twitter, you'll notice that I changed Asami's eyes. She looked a bit too young before.
P.P.S. Yes, I had clouds in the background before (if you saw my previous post), but that's my default for everything. I'm trying to improve here.
P.P.P.S. This is the first time I've used the "let people answer this" option, so I guess I'll be finding out how it works.
So, what should I paint in the background?

Progress pic of what my Korroh piece looked like before and after (with my comments scribbled all over it for your enjoyment(!!!)).
Just a few more finishing touches on the coloring, and I'll be done with Korra and Iroh. Then, I'll be finishing up some other characters and the background.
You'll notice that...
Korra's expression/eyes changed. I wanted her to look surprised (and derpy (she sorta looks cross-eyed)) and her eyes to be more Korra-like (pointed upwards).
I messed up so much on Iroh's uniform. I had to redraw it so many times, because I suck at drawing clothing... even though it's probably hard to tell just by looking at the "after".
Colors changed. I needed to make them compatible(?) with the background colors.
Iroh's chin is touching Korra's head now... 'cause it's cuter. ♥ I initially wanted him looking off into the distance but changed it so that he looks like he's saying [insert quote here*] to her. (*The correct answer is: "Korra, your hair smells sooo good. What shampoo do you use?")
Iroh is more muscular. Before the finale, I thought he had a similar body type to Mako. Oh, how wrong I was.
Iroh is a lot younger-looking now, because for some reason, the animators made him look super old in his first appearance.
Slightly-OT: Korra may have ended up with Mako in Book 1, but I'm sure we'll be seeing some Korroh in Book 2, 3, or 4! (I still like Makorra, but Korroh just seems more entertaining.)

You can probably tell I was a big fan of Naruto in high school. These are scans of doodles I did during class back when I was in 11th grade (I was 16, lol).
I never really bothered to finish doodles, since they're, well, doodles.
They're also somewhat inaccurate, since I was working off of my memory (i.e., no reference). You can probably see my fail-Sakura if you look closely at the first pic. ^^;;

I've decided to practice drawing different poses from the How To Draw Manga series. I have several books, but they just keep collecting dust. This pose is from p. 21 of "Futari no Kakikata" ("How to Draw Couples"). I didn't want to draw an exact copy, so I've replaced the generic characters with Tifa Lockhart and Cloud Smiles Strife and slightly (very slightly) altered the angle at which the original girl was standing.
I keep telling myself to stop drawing Cloud, but he keeps wanting to make an appearance in my art. D:

I finally got around to drawing something. I've been having a hard time motivating myself to draw lately... I guess, because I've been so busy looking for jobs and feeling down about it.
Oh, and I miss having a dog. (I used to have pomeranians, btw.)

This is a collab I did with my friend Brian on Twitdraw (graffiti on Twitter) about 4 months ago.
I initiated the graffiti and didn't color my character. But, Brian went ahead and colored his. lol
