it's 2am and i'm thinking about how "war never changes" has been criminally underutilized by the fallout franchise for its entire existence. i'm 99 percent sure it's supposed to be a direct response to as well as a rejection of the early atomic age geopolitical theory that the atom bomb would effectively eliminate all war as we know it. the series clearly has an opinion on this, but they rarely want to put that opinion in the text. for a series that comes so close to saying something about nuclearism, the games have always been oddly hesitant to directly confront some of the ideas that it clearly does believe in but can't figure out how to discuss without being relegated to the use of a snappy tagline.
