Me n my bf's initiative to replace "I'm gonna kill myself" in sentences has backfired in an extremely funny way because.

We decided that "im gonna go fishing" is the best and funniest replacement, because fishing will not seriously harm you mentally or physically, but it is so fucking boring that it might as well be harming you, and as such a joke about self harm turns into a Better joke that's basically "i hate this so much id rather do an activity i vehemently hate."

However.

Now every time someone tells me about their REAL, GENUINE plans to go fishing, my immediate knee-jerk response is "oh god. what happened." in the most GRIM SOLEMN VOICE which confuses some people and makes the vibe absolutely indescribable.

And i can't just like. Explain all of this as a silly way to improve my mental health because most of the time I barely know them, that would be weird, but also I cant just leave them thinking I have some kind Trout Trauma.
