“Then what do you think?” He said softly. When she answered him, a half-hearted smile appeared on his face. “Being human is the worst.” He awkwardly ran a hand through his hair, trying to smooth it down. He leaned into her touch before letting out a small laugh. “It certainly feels like there is.”

Lily managed a quiet chuckle before dropping her hand down carefully once more. “I know.. being human feels horrid. But what you’re feeling and what you’re going through.. it’s okay to hurt and it’s okay to cry. There’s nothing pathetic about that it.. it just means you care.” She said quietly, trying to accept that factor as well. He wouldn’t cry and be so upset if he didn’t care. About everything.

“Easy, try apparating while jumping from the astronomy tower. Succeed and I’ll stop tormenting your friends when I’m bored.” 

Lily’s jaw clicked, tightening as her gaze hardened upon Vale. “Or maybe you could--oh I don’t know--find something to do that’s actually useful and mature instead of being a complete arse.” She stated firmly and in annoyance. “Why are you wasting your time with me now anyway?”

“Something you forgot to do? If you don’t mind me asking.” He added, not meaning to be nosey. Lily was one of the cool kids in his book, brilliant mind and all. Not that he got to talking to her much, which he realized he should have by now. He made a mental note to bake her something later. “No, maybe to drop some books off to my common room.” Emptying his bag would be nice. Noticing her own stack in her hands, he motioned to the books. “Would you like some help with those?” It was genuine kindess that sparked his question, wanting to offer a helping hand even over something as simple as that.

Lily pressed her lips together firmly for a moment before shaking her head in answer. “No, no.. nothing I forgot to do--I suppose I’m just rushing myself today.” She had a habit of doing that. “Getting places too quickly, places that don’t really serve me a purpose of the day other than being some.. distraction.” She knew who Noah was, at least she knew his year, house and name but never had much of an opportunity to learn much more. At the offer, she gave a small grateful smile. “That’s awfully kind of you, but, I think I can manage.” She said kindly in a lighter tone of voice.

“EXCELLENT!” Scott beamed as he sat down beside the redhead. “Did you want to try one of my cupcakes? They’re fresh and a new recipe and taste pretty good!”

Lily wasn’t sure of what she was expecting in the moment, but she looked up to him. Tilting her head slightly as he sat down next to her, she couldn’t help but to give a short chuckle. Well, this was definitely a mood change for her. “I.. don’t think I can actually decline an offer like that.” She admitted sheepishly, turning a bit towards him. “Alright--my attention is completely yours.”

His gaze lingered on her, watching her expressions and how she took in what he had to say. He respected Lily Evans and liked that they could have a serious conversation–something he was capable of when it came to a friend. “You can stick with me for as long as your heart desires.” He leaned back in his chair, charming smile back on his face. “Those were the good old days.” Sure were some fun times without much care of his actions. But they had both grown since then. “Look at us now. A bit boring, innit?” He was itchng to do something other than following or enforcing the rules. And after what Lily was just telling him, she could probably go for the same.

Lily quirked her eyebrow, as though accepting a challenge at his words. “Stick with you for as long as my heart desires... well, I’m ‘fraid you just signed yourself up for quite a while.” She did reflect for a moment on the good times of spending detention time together. She felt like she purposely got detention in the past for the pure reason of spending time with him and gaining a friend like that. It was definitely worth all those hours of simply sitting too. “Mmm...” She hummed in agreement, her gaze moving up to settle upon him, reading his expression along with his words. “Are you.. suggesting something?” She snickered but seemingly on board with the unsaid idea.

When he pulled away, there were tears in his eyes. Snape went to furiously wipe them away if only to show any semblance of normalcy. “You must think I’m pathetic.” He stated softly, looking over at her with bloodshot eyes. 

Lily’s eyebrows furrowed together gently before shaking her head a little. “No.. no I don’t.” She spoke quietly as her gaze flickered over him carefully. “I think you’re human.” Her voice remained soft and though she had been quite hesitant before, it was only faintly there. Of course, she was still hurt, still upset with Severus, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t care about him and what he was going through. Glancing down to her sleeve, she pulled it down and over her thumb to cover it with the fabric before cautiously raising it once more to wipe away the tear stains along his cheeks. “There’s nothing wrong with being human.”

Remus couldn’t help but chuckle softly at her words, nodding his head. “Alright, alright. If it doesn’t go back to normal, I’ll take your potion.” He replied, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “Thank you.”

Lily let go of any stern traces along her features as a smile grew along her lips smoothly. She relaxed as she had also hooked her arm around him comfortably, leaning against his frame. “Of course.” Well, at least someone understood her stubbornness at times. “Other than losing sleep.. anything else new?” She questioned lightly and curiously, peering up to him.

“Well, now I don’t want to say anything. My point was to annoy you, not have a conversation with you.” he stated with a grin. “Go back to reading so I can interrupt you again.” 

“Arse.” Lily attempted to give a pointed glare towards Sirius, but it failed quickly as amusement bloomed her features a little too easily. Snapping the book shut, she pressed it further away from her before folding her arms across her chest firmly, her gaze settling upon her friend. “You’re always annoying me anyway--what’s the difference?” She teased back with a growing grin.

Devlin frowned for a moment, genuinely scared she was considering ratting him out for skipping a class. But as soon as he saw the smile, he eased up. “Thank you so much. I did need those extra minutes of sleep. Possibly more too.” He replied, allowing a grin to appear. “But I would not be against some company.”

Lily gave a nod of her head. She knew Devlin and talked to him here and there but never really spent time with him. They just had some mutual friends. “Well, lucky you, I haven’t got class at the moment and not for a bit either.” She spoke in a light and warm friendly tone. “So? What’s been new with you as of late, hm?” She questioned, moving to shift her stance and lean against the tree comfortably, allowing her stiff posture to relax somewhat.

“It’s fine. It’s fine.” He began, averting his gaze. Severus let out a sigh. “You will?” He raised his gaze to meet hers, reaching out for her hands. “Thank you.” His voice was low as he gave her hands a gentle squeeze. Without warning, he wrapped her into a hug. In that moment, he just wanted to be with her.

It wasn’t what Lily had expected at all. She was frozen, almost stiff as he took her hands with his. Severus--the friend she was always grateful for growing up. Showing her that being a witch wasn’t what her sister claimed. It was better. She was special. The friend that did something beyond where apologies could no longer do a thing. But she still hugged him back, hesitantly at first, before clutching onto him gently. She missed them being friends together. With this thought, she instantly closed her eyes and fell silent in the embrace. Not a single word needed to be said.

“I get wanting to be prepared for when it happens.” He started, not one to sugar coat things. “But constantly worrying over it will drive you mad, Lils. And hoping to avoid it that way not only must make you exhausted, but you’ll miss out on other things.” There should be a balance of work with whatever social life she was into. He happened to agree with her, she was creating this problem for herself. But he kept that opinion to himself. “As long as you recognize all this, you can take baby steps to chill out. Have a drink, blow off the damn homework, give that brilliant mind of yours a rest.” He gave a small smile. “Don’t let worrying about the future prevent you from doing things right now in the present.”

Lily listened to him, giving a slow nod of her head at first. It was.. calming. He wasn’t poking much jokes at her for this--he understood and hearing someone else aloud about it? It showed some light on it just as well for her. Sometimes hearing it made her take it to heart properly. “Yeah..” She said a little softer, her gaze having gone elsewhere before flickering back onto him. Her stance seemed to change, her shoulders relaxing and overall seeming less stiff. “You’re absolutely right. I don’t suppose you’d mind me bothering you longer than usual today then?” Her lips smoothed into a small smile. “Y’know--enjoying the present, resting, getting to talk with a good friend without sitting in detention.” Lily teased.

“Really?” Avalon replied, her eyes lighting up as a smile spread across her face. “Great! Let’s go, then!”

Lily couldn’t help the small smile that grew wider, nodding whilst turning to start off in the direction of the kitchens. Her steps were slow as she’d wait for Avalon to match her steps and join her side. “Y’know, I haven’t actually gone in a while. I’ve been considering doing this, if I’m being perfectly honest. Just usually never have company. Gets boring.” She admitted, glancing ahead the corridor before back to the other.

“Because that would be so productive.” He said teasingly, shaking his head at her words. “You don’t have to do that, I’ll be alright. It’s just been a couple nights, I’m sure I’ll get back to normal soon.”

Lily scowled, rolling her eyes playfully at first. “More productive than doing nothing, now isn’t it?” She narrowed her gaze at him for a moment, as though considering his words to decide whether to push the topic further or not. “Right...” She began. “But.. if you don’t get back to normal as far as sleep goes then I’m going to brew something.” She said stubbornly with an innocent smile.

“You’re welcome.” He broke into a smile then and handed her the item. “That’s okay. It looked like you were in a rush.” Her attitude at first had slightly intimidated him, but it wasn’t as strong as before.

Lily nodded her head a little, taking the parchment from him gingerly. At least he was understanding. “Yeah I--I suppose I kinda was at first.” She admitted. Yeah, she was in a rush to get back to the Great Hall but she didn’t see much of a reason for the rush anymore. She knew Noah but she never really got to talk to him before, if she were to be honest. “Were you heading anywhere in particular yourself?” She questioned for light conversation, adjusting the small stack of books she held close to her chest with the parchment wedged between two of the books.

He wasn’t sure if it was hesitation or if Lily didn’t actually know, but it got his attention. His mind ran everywhere from someone bothering her to it being nothing bad at all, just academic worry. “It sounds more real than you sweeping it under the rug by saying you’re fine.” Casual answers like that, which he was even guilty of, were bullshit. He knew what that felt like though, when things went too well and it seemed like something bad needed to occur to balance it out. “Until anything does happen, try not to think about it.” Which was easier said than done, but he didn’t want her stressing. “Normal as in boring?”

Lily gave a small shrug of her shoulders. “I can’t.. explain it--I just have this gut feeling. Usually, something drastically upsetting happens every once in a while. And I’m yet to face that just yet in a little while. It’s knowing something is going to drop, but you don’t know when.” She shifted on her feet. “That’s why I’ve.. buried myself into doing school work and more studying than actually needed. I’ve been out of touch with friends in general. I’m thinking about this much more than needed, Al.” She made a face, crinkling her nose up in distaste before her face relaxed, looking even and to Alastor once more. “From the sounds of it, I’m being my own problem. And I’m letting the littlest of things that do happen stress me out” She admitted with a huff.
