“What do you need, baby?” Martin sighed, stroking Tim’s hair. “Need you to break me,” Tim’s voice was almost inaudible, still buried against Martin’s jumper. “I can’t feel it until you do.” Martin was already nodding. “Okay love, okay.” He shot Jon a sidelong look. “If you want to leave I’d understand. This might get a little intense.” Jon shook his head. His stomach was roiling, although with what, he didn’t know. “What are you going to do to him?” Martin smiled, but there was a focus behind the smile that Jon knew was not directed at him. “Nothing he doesn’t want.”

Jon figures out about Not Sasha and tells the boys, and in the aftermath Martin and Jon give Tim a little emotional release.

Jon gestured awkwardly. “Aren’t you two all about… communicating and dealing with things using, um…” He trailed off.

Tim snorted. “You’re asking if we’ve tried to fuck the trauma out?” He sighed. “It’s not that simple. We’ve been talking plenty. Martin needs to talk right now. I don’t know if I’m ready to. We keep butting heads as he tries not to push me to talk and I try to push myself to talk and he feels bad because he doesn’t know where my head’s at because I can’t tell him because I don’t know.”

--- After Prentiss attacks the Institute Jon begins to follow his assistants. This leads to some uncomfortable conversations about trauma and feelings.

Jon was kneeling on the floor, one knee pulled up to his chest like a kid, moving the records carefully one by one, and viewed like that Martin could easily imagine the two of them in his childhood bedroom, pouring over his dad’s old record collection, the sweltering bars of dust-clogged sunlight, the oatmeal carpet that shed in little pills, the electric arc of Jon’s teenaged body, his long fingers, flicking through records, Martin standing, too-conscious of his own body, clumsy, putting on a record and turning the volume up automatically to drown out the disapproving noises of his mother clattering dishes in the kitchen sink.
