40,000 years ago, early humans painted hands on the wall of a cave. This morning, my baby cousin began finger painting. All of recorded history happened between these two paintings of human hands. The Nazca Lines and the Mona Lisa. The first TransAtlantic flight and the first voyage to the Moon. Humanity invented the wheel, the telescope, and the nuclear bomb. We eradicated wild poliovirus types 2 and 3. We discovered radio waves, dinosaurs, and the laws of thermodynamics. Freedom Riders crossed the South. Hippies burned their draft cards. Countless genocides, scientific advancements, migrations, and rebellions. More than a hundred billion humans lived and died between these two paintings—one on a sheet of paper, and one on the inside of a cave. At the dawn of time, ancient humans stretched out their hands. And this morning, a child reached back.
#i literally have to let out some kind of audible scream whenever i see this post#chills#i love humans so fucking much#anthropology

Neanderthals probably had insane pull. They were like “I am taking care of my grandma since she hurt her foot. Look at this beautiful cave painting I made.” and early modern humans were like “You are so refreshingly compassionate and make beautiful art. Your stocky frame, huge head and chinlessness have seduced me. Let’s interbreed and create offspring that will have unique autoimmune problems for thousands of years to come.”

If your democrat friends start muttering about stolen election conspiracy theories, the time to have a sit down with them and express your concerns is NOW, while you still have a chance to reach them, not 6 months from now when they're fully conspiracy-pilled.
Here's some of the talking points and why they're bullshit:
'10 million votes don't just disappear!' -> Joe Biden's 81 million votes were a statistical outlier, sparked by the recent experience of the Trump presidency. The democrats failed to maintain that sense of urgency, but Harris still got more votes than Hillary Clinton, more than Obama and more than any previous democratic candidate. These numbers are not weird at all.
'The Republicans tried to infiltrate election- and vote counting organizations!' -> yeah, they did, and yet hundreds of independent legal observers didn't see anything go wrong enough to raise any alarms. Independent exit polls are also very consistently similar to the counted votes. Tons of international organizations specialized in this stuff observed the election and didn't see a reason to raise the alarm.
'But I know a dozen democrats whose mail-in votes were not counted!' -> In any election a certain number of votes are registered as invalid because something was wrong with the ballot. In a country the size of the US, that translates to many thousands of votes. The internet allows these people to find each other, creating the false impression that a suspiciously large group of voted was not valid.
'Musk used Star Link to mess with electronic voting!' -> Electronic voting machines are not connected to the internet and dozens of independent media have already debunked this myth. It is absolutely impossible to use Star Link to fake election results.
'There is voter disenfranchisement!' -> This is true. This has always been true, for every election. It's an issue worth talking about but it's not a special secret conspiracy that's unique to this election.
But just as importantly as the facts: sit down with your friend and talk about the anxiety that's behind their conspiracy leanings. Acknowledge their pain and fear. Help them find ways to feel less powerless and regain their sense of agency. Take them to a mutual aid event, involve them in a fundraising event for a marginalized group, invite them to a local community effort. If they spend more time feeling connection and empowerment and less time doom scrolling online, they're far more likely to stay in reality.

With all news that high % of uneducated voted for Trump. Or those uneducated on politics and what tariffs mean etc.
There’s lot of posts mocking those who are now only learning the mistake they made at the election. I understand this desire to get angry at them. To get angry at the uneducated for not educating themselves before voting. Like it is bloody frustrating when the information is out there and so obvious etc etc Brexit and Tory victories always brought out worse in me, bitter hatred, deep disappointment, feeling of fuck it all.
But
It’s also a failure of the opposition that their message never reached these people. Or only reached them afterwards. Campaigners need hard look at where they failed. Not just blaming others and moving on not changing or adapting strategy etc
Left wing politics has always strived to improve literacy levels for uneducated and often working classes who are always left with no options in past. You got to know that person could easily be you or in another life could be you. Esp with misinformation fooling not just uneducated etc
But more so
If your message is not accessible to the uneducated and illiterate. If it only reaches those with privilege to get into higher education. Your movement isn’t about freedom or equality and it will fail.
Peasant revolts, working class movements before libraries were public show that you don’t need high literacy to understand oppression and inequality. They feel and see it when overworked, when hungry, when they have no money and the boss has more for less work. They are reachable and aren’t always your enemies if the root cause is a poor education and lack of accessibility to the information. The liars who exploit their lack of education are the enemies.
No matter how hard it is or how much other message is louder. You shouldn’t give up or not try. This shit is struggle, it’s tough, it always has been but every now and again someone or some message breaks through and you’ll never find it if you don’t believe it exists or you don’t try. Even in the face of being ignored, mocked or rage.
Too many politicians do give up easy on this but often grassroots activists who live there don’t. Make sure to support people fighting with heart who haven’t given up yet to get the message through. You got to help them or start the long discussion and strategy meetings on ‘how can we reach those who are not engaged, not highly educated, who vote based on misinformation etc’
Note: because bigotry is part of this election this is not a call to put yourself in dangerous situations with people who want to hurt you. Yeah cut those people out. Find safe communities. This is more aimed at political campaigning or those who want socialist message to be heard to all which can be delivered directly or indirectly these days

So you're panicking and you don't know what to do, and you feel like you have to do everything ASAP?
My best advice to you is this: pick two things, and then focus.
Pick one thing to do for yourself. This can be self-care like making an art or this can be making sure your vaccinations are up to date or this can be volunteering at or donating to a charity fighting for some Civil Right of yours.
Try not to stress about the decision. I know that that's tough, but remember that what you are doing right now isn't the only thing you are ever going to do. This isn't the most important thing you can do, it's not the biggest thing you can do, it's just one thing you think you can handle right now.
Now, do something for someone else. Same rules apply, it doesn't matter what you're doing. Make a meal for someone or volunteer in your neighborhood or send your friend a letter or an email with a message of hope. Let folks know you are there, and you're with them.
You will almost certainly already feel a little bit better.
Now keep doing that. One thing for you, one thing for somebody else. You can change up the thing you're doing each time if that helps. At some point, you're going to find something that really clicks for you. The timing works out well, it works for your budget. You're good at it or you feel like you're making real progress.
Now, focus. Do that thing more. Find other ways to do that thing. Make that your personal first choice of stuff to do. Make that part of your regular routine.
We cannot all always be helping with every single cause all the time. The next few years are going to have lots and lots and lots of things that do you want to help with. And if you are good at budgeting your time and making decisions when you are anxious, go nuts.
But if you are panicking, and you don't know what to do, just stop. Take a breath. Remember you are one person. Then do something for yourself, then do something for someone else. And when everything starts to really click for you, focus on the thing that you can do a lot of.
