Cora listened, allowing herself a pause to let his words and sink in and give her understanding before she flexed her fingers once more, setting her hand down to her side. "Put anything in?" her brow furrowed, having expected it to be some form of box enchanted to bring food, but relaxed as new knowledge clicked away at her turning wheels. "So it won't summon anything." she said in understanding.

"No. I'm not all that hungry. I was merely curious and wished to familiarize myself with the estate." she explained, hands resting on top of the kitchen island. She studied James for a moment before speaking once more. "So how did you come to meet my daughter? You two must be close if she has you as a guest in her home."

Headcanon: Left Behind

Cora never went back to the mill to bring her father with her. She hated her father and knew he would be a hinderance to her plans. Additionally, she felt no sense of duty or obligation to a drunkard who abused her and often left it up to her to bring food to the table. She let her father go on believing she had died or run away, and it was only until after he had died that she returned to the old mill to burn it down and rid herself of the last pieces of a past she didn't want to remember.

Headcanon: On removing the heart

Initially at the beginning, Cora could still remember how it felt to have a heart, and how it was to feel love. Which is why she was brought to tears when she said goodbye to Rumple. She couldn't feel anything anymore, but could remember her responses to strong emotions. But the longer she went without a heart, the more difficult it became for Cora to recall those emotions, instead she let herself be guided by ambition alone. Any demonstration of affection was the result of her having become practiced in feigning emotion, which allowed her to manipulate those around her, her husband and daughter in particular.

Cora turned to look for the source of the voice, eyes falling on James as he made his way in. For a moment she thought to call him Charming, until memory of Regina's house tour the night prior reminded her that her daughter made a brief mention of David's twin once thought long dead living in an upstairs suite. She studied him for a moment, astounded at how much he resembled Snow White's husband. And had it not been for Regina's warning, she would have easily mistaken him for his brother.

"I wasn't making an attempt to open the door. The contents of that box wanted to attack me and I simply defended myself." she said, flicking her wrist to snuff out the orb of magic in her hand once she was satisfied the enchanted box would not make another attempt at her life.

"You're that James fellow." she stated, turning to face James. "I don't suppose you would know how these enchanted boxes work."

She smirked, satisfied that they'd come to some form of trade. "I trust you enough to believe you'd be discrete, dear." she replied. 

She watched him, aware of the space between them closing as he leaned forward. Whether it was to set her on edge or not, she wouldn't know. Though, knowing the imp, this was likely another attempt to intimidate her. And given he was the most powerful being in their realm, capable of causing great harm to her should he wish it, he did. But she would never dare show it. She needed to always present herself with a cool and collected veneer. Push her opponents to cave first as she maintained a calm farce so that she herself might find their weaknesses and use them for her own gain.

As he inched closer, she couldn't help but let a slight smirk curve her lips, the closing space between them reminding her of their old tradition they so enjoyed practicing when committing to a deal. Knowing he had once loved her, knowing he still might, the temptation to use his heart against him to gain further advantage pulled her closer, finally closing the space between them as her lips found his. And while Cora could no longer feel anything, the taste of him was enough for her to shut her eyes momentarily, savoring the memories that ghosted over her mind of a time when she, too, could love.

im-not-a-what

I can’t think of many Rumplestiltskins who aren’t single shippers and who manage to stay active and interesting, but this is one of them, so I am just so glad that I get the chance to RP with them. They really explore Rumple and try new things with him, making their threads fun to RP in or just read. They don’t play him as just the manipulative Dark One or the hurt lost soul, but show the mixture of him that the show gives us.
