I think we try to make sense of death shortly after it comes. Maybe it's a coping mechanism, I don't know
And I don't really have some profound quote or personal meeting of David Lynch that makes sense or sums up his life for me. How can you really?
But one of the many things I loved about him is his famous refusal to explain his work. Because he understood better than most is that once art is on a canvas or a record or a film reel it's stops being the artist's. It belongs to you.
He was always way way more fascinated by what we took from his work than he ever was by any thought or inclination that lead him to create it
And I thank him for what he gave us ownership of

Reblogging this cause it's the only good post I've ever made on this platform and I saw a reactor ask why Scar didn't just kill Simba instead of make him think he caused his father's death
He's sadistic and loves revelling in his own ego and cleverness rather than getting his hands dirty. It's actually a consistent character trait in the movie and ultimately leads to him getting himself killed (in a roundabout way lol)
"Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?"
One of the my favourite little things about Scar is that he's a sadist but not like physically-he likes tormenting people fuelled by his utter narcissism and it continues to fuck up for him
-If he had just eaten the mouse instead of toying with it making it panic it wouldn't have gotten away
-If he hadn't been fuelling Simba's guilt for NO PRACTICAL REASON other than his own enjoyment he would have just killed him
-If he hadn't mentioned he killed Mufasa at the end he wouldn't have motivated Simba to get off the cliffside and force him to confess to the Pride
It's touches like this that keep me coming back to this movie
It's also why his way angrier obvious chip on his shoulder 2019 counterpart just doesn't work-part of Scar's charm is that he loves being a bastard. He relishes in it

Coolest thing about lord of the rings? The king of horses shows up. It appears he is no different from all other horses

"we want to protect the kids!!"
— in a way that will also protect them from their parents & guardians right?
"what"
— if a parent or guardian wanted to abuse their child, would what you're trying to do make it harder for them?
"..."
— *pulls out a chart that shows 76% of abused children were victimized by a parent or legal guardian* will what you're advocating for make it easier for the majority child abusers, which is overwhelmingly parents & guardians, to get away with abuse?
"idk what this has to do with anything we just want to restrict children's freedoms more & give parents more control over them. you know. to protect them from adults who want to abuse them"
Every. Single. Time.
