I'm following up on something I said in an earlier confession (sorry for double posting). I think it's weird when people say Erik needs to make more fluff, or that he needs make more audios with overused characters because that's what gets him money (previously from adsense money, I guess now only in the form of driving people to Patreon).
I don't see how that's relevant. He has a real job outside of audios, that's where he gets the money that he actually needs. If he stalls out on a plotline that I was hoping to see continue in favor of yet another David Shaw sleep aid or fluff audio meant to advertise an NSFW BA on his Patreon, I'm not going to cheer "yass king get your bag!". I'm going to be a little disappointed. Telling me that he downgraded his content for more money isn't going to make me suddenly like the audio.
His stories legitimately have a lot of untapped potential and I want to see them play out. Maybe I'm chasing the high of the Inversion era but seeing any acknowledgement of a fumble get deflected with "he needs to do that for money" isn't selling me. Neither is the idea that we're acting "entitled" if we miss the feeling of back when the fluff/lore balance favored lore. Having opinions on media isn't entitlement. I don't think I have the right to control his life and decide what content he does/doesn't make but I do have the right to some opinions.

The fandom needs to stop treating every minor critique of audios as direct attacks on their creator. People discuss, critique, and form different opinions on fictional narratives. Tumblr was practically founded on that. People always say "why do you have all these opinions about boyfriend ASMR" whenever people discuss/debate/critique any of his work and that doesn't make sense. He's making stories with actual plots. It's not like people are picking apart the plotlines of his sleep aid and cuddle audios. He has an ongoing narrative four years in the making with extensive lore.
I know that Erik Redacted de la YouTube is an independent creator (like all audio roleplay VAs). I don't expect him to meet all the standards of something made by a full-time professional with a big staff and a studio budget, but I can still have opinions. People act like any critical opinion of his characters/stories is a hit piece against Erik himself, and defend Erik personally rather than defending the audios themselves. His fandom will jump in the way of the mildest criticism like the secret service catching a bullet for the president.
The response is always "He has a job and a life outside of audios!", "He needs to upload fluff to keep up with the YouTube algorithm!", "He needs to post more content of his overused/overrated characters because that's what earns him money!". Ok I already know that, I'm just trying to critically engage with narrative media, I'm not saying we need to raise pitchforks against him personally. You don't need to defend him on a personal level just because I think one of his story lines fell short of its potential or one of his characters is overused/overrated.
