things to study once classes end
for those who want to keep up a habit or just enjoy learning
a new language
a style of literature less commonly studies (e.g. fantasy, science fiction - I took a sci-fi course this semester and it was so fun)
practice an instrument or learn some music theory
take some skillshare courses!
start / join a book club. this isn't really studying but imo most English courses are just really expensive book clubs
learn to read tarot / study other spirituality. I want to get better at astrology
study your local history! your library probably has a bunch of stuff on it
pick up a new hobby or craft and learn the history of it
study the plants in your local forest, aim to create a mini foraging guide
design a heavy programming project for yourself, challenge yourself to learn how to do it before the fall term starts
teach yourself some psychology! there's a LOT about it out there
do a bible study if that's something that suits you
the 1980s UK punk scene. I just took a course on this it's great
really any pop culture era
the Salem witch trials. there's a lot to learn there
if you're up to it, learn the history of some local indigenous / aboriginal groups if you happen to be on colonized land. learn what you can do as an ally (I actually have a reading list for those of you getting in to indigenous American allyship, and you can always reach out to me for a starting point)
literally take out a textbook from a library or get a used textbook off a friend and read through it, annotate it if you can, study the material. It's fun to learn without deadlines looming.
work on your handwriting

***All these links are for YouTube and are watchable as of October 2021. Since this list is for classic films it includes some countries that no longer exist. Not every country is included here because not every country had a film industry or has films available on YouTube. A few countries have two films listed because I couldn’t pick between the two. I recommend looking up any film on here that you watch as a lot of them have very interesting backstories. “No subs” means no English subtitles. They may have subtitles in other languages.
Please don’t let a lack of subtitles stop you from trying a movie from another country. Movies, especially silent ones, can be understood and enjoyed regardless of language barriers! <3

MOTIVATION VS SELF-DISCIPLINE
I see a lot of people talking about the need for motivation to study or get their work done but motivation isn’t always what you need - what do you do on the days you have no motivation? This is why we need self-discipline.
MOTIVATION VS SELF DISCIPLINE
Motivation - a willingness to do something
Self-Discipline - making yourself do things you know you should do when you don’t want to
So if motivation is ‘why we should do something’ - self-discipline is more ‘what to do next’.
HOW TO BE SELF-DISCIPLINED
Set yourself a routine and stick to it
Never have a zero day - try and study every single day - even if you feel absolutely awful - 10 minutes is better than nothing!! Do flashcards from your bed or watch youtube ted talks if you can’t physically study.
Build on your productivity, not your failures.
If you come from a past of procrastinating and now feel motivated to change and discipline yourself, do NOT try to do everything at once. Start things slow and in steps.
Set yourself smaller deadlines for your goals like monthly and weekly deadlines - e.g. if you are doing a project, due 27th June, set personal deadlines, like have the introduction written by the 8th, have your literature review written by the 15th, have project complete by the 25th.
Know your limits. Self-discipline isn’t doing as much as you can until you break - it’s about having control, knowing what you can realistically manage and getting that done.
Give yourself rewards! I love to have something to look forward to as I get work done! This means mixing motivation and self-discipline. I tell myself after this lecture I can have an animal crossing break or check some messages etc.
Remove distractions from your study space! Personally, if my phone is out and I notice a notification…I’m gonna check it. It’s human nature! So to combat this, I use apps like Forest that force me to stay within the app while I study. If I know I might get hungry during a study session I’ll keep a little snack by my desk so I don’t have to get up and somehow find something else to distract me.
Just do it isn’t that easy. I find to get myself in a ‘work boss’ mood I need to feel good about myself so I put on a nice outfit and maybe some eyeliner and hype myself up so I know I can do my tasks and get stuff done! It feels so much better than lazing in my pyjamas trying to study.

Productivity Printables
Hey everyone! The semester has kicked off for many of us already, myself included, and I just gotta say, it’s been pretty crazy. I wanted to share some tools that have helped me and hopefully can help you too in having at least some semblance of organization this semester.
A couple notes: The first preview will show both high and low contrast versions. Remaining previews will show high contrast only but there are low contrast versions available. I have no idea why but the reviews may look different on different browsers/screens. They should print out fine, though. Click images for better quality, or go straight to the download link.
Anyway, here are the printables!

2020 quarantine challenge: take a picture of your desk/study space
ngl i feel like all my posts so far have been of my same desk, and self isolation isn’t helping with that lmao. however, i’m very excited to join this challenge (although a bit late)!! today my classes will finally be resuming after two weeks of break, and i can’t wait to finish this semester 🤠
