There are some people who, no matter how good you are to them, it won’t make them good to you. That’s just the way they are. Don’t stress over such people. They exist. Spread your goodness no matter what the circumstances. Nothing good is ever wasted. The Almighty’s All Knowing.

People who sin are still Muslim. I’m not just talking minor sins. I’m talking people who commit zina regularly, people who drink and smoke and party, hell even people who commit crimes. Girls who don’t wear hijab or who don’t wear it correctly, people who listen to music. You can’t invalidate someone’s Islam or identity as a Muslim because they commit sins. They may or may not be working toward leaving those sins but it’s honestly none of your business. A man who murdered 100 people went to jannah because of his repentance. A woman who was a prostitute went to jannah because of her kindness towards a cat. It’s so so easy to fall into the trap of being a harsh, unforgiving and judgmental person as you become more practising. Constantly check yourself for these traits. And this is a reminder to myself too.

Never again will I settle for mediocre ‘love’,

Or friendship without depth, truth and understanding.

I refuse to compromise my values and my beliefs, in fear of being pushy or ��too much’, I will not sleep whilst you dance and I will not empty my soul with tears whilst you fill yours with drink. I will never again laugh when nothing is funny and learn the words to songs I do not like. I do not love. Because if you’ve loved, you know that love is never mediocre. That’s impossible.

I don’t need it, but I want a man who understands that my depths are scary but is willing to drive me to oceans, who does not read but asks me about my favourite characters, who reads the cliff notes to have an idea of what I say when he listens to me talk and talk and talk. Who knows, my life is but a story, who knows I’m moved by minor details and I crave in-depth description – and so, he does not just call me beautiful. Instead he tells me my eyes look like melted gold, and he pictures my face when he passes the stand of roses on the way to work because they remind him of my cheeks, a man that can admit he rushes down to the kitchen where I am in the mornings, because he misses the smell of my hair, not because he smells coffee. He knows that this is how he can make me feel beautiful. The kind of man who knows I’ll ask and check, and then ask and check again and he won’t ever get annoyed or compare me to his mother because he knows I love him, because he knows the finest love repeats itself. The kind of man who doesn’t call a compromise, a compromise, because what I want is not a concession, it is a desire. And we respect each other’s desires. Happily. Willingly.

I want a love that is mutual because I swear, God knows it, my love will fill the holes in your life and then some. And should you lose it, you could climb mountains in search for it yet never be able to find it in out there in the world – because the only place you’ll find my love is within your own heart. Just where I left it. So don’t try to lose it, because it will never truly be lost. And don’t bring to me a love that doesn’t match up. The woman who holds the scales is blind, she does not see the results in her own hands. But I do, so please don’t dare bring me a love that you know will never measure up. Like the love hearts we drew as children, I will have a love that is symmetrical. I will have it because I am no longer a girl. I am a woman.

@netflix @netflixfilm releasing this as a love letter to u all, in celebration of all that we’ve shared over the past few years. i know this project only captures some of one tour (out of all the other hundreds of shows and moments we have shared over the past six or seven years… jesus lol) but i just wanted to thank u all for showing me more in this lifetime already than i ever dreamed of. making music and doing all of this has been all i’ve known or fully given myself to consistently for a very long time now. although my heart is looking forward to a change of pace, i wanted to express again just how eternally thankful i am. 🤍 i’ve learned, seen and felt so much. it’s been such an honor to share so much of this life with u. “excuse me, i love you” dec 21. trailer tomorrow. 🌑
