Contemporary Follies |2017
In architecture, a folly is a building constructed primarily for decoration, but suggesting through its appearance some other purpose, or of such extravagant appearance that it transcends the range of garden ornaments usually associated with the class of buildings to which it belongs. The concept of the folly is subjective and it has been suggested that the definition of a folly "lies in the eyes of the beholder". Typical characteristics include: • They have no purpose other than as an ornament. Often they have some of the appearance of a building constructed for a particular purpose, such as a castle or tower, but this appearance is a sham. Equally, if they have a purpose, it may be disguised. • They are buildings, or parts of buildings. Thus they are distinguished from other garden ornaments such as sculpture. • They are purpose-built. Follies are deliberately built as ornaments. • They were built or commissioned for pleasure.

Through the theme of water is used to imagine collective habitation by myths in which a society share their emotional relationship to a place. The water had been connected people throughout the history of İstanbul. During the Roman period there is  constructed many of open and close cisterns which are connected with aqueducts. And in the times of Ottoman Empire, lots of fountain built to distribute water. Some of the water structures had been using out of its function (cistern of Aetius has been using as a footbol stadium) and some are currently non-functional(fountains and closed cisterns). The aim of the project is create an alternative function for society to these non-functional historical structures which are already belong to society.Myths which are creations of social memory is related with historical facts. Therefore the interaction between myths and Istanbul’s historical, political and religious history is explained. The Project aimed to provide to inhabitant of İstanbul a network tol ive together without ownership contrary to current system. People are gathered in communal spaces which are connected to people with history and legends of İstanbul.
