God I love Karim now. World's worst sacrificial lamb. He finally gets the chance to get all the love he ever wanted, the approval and acceptance of his family and Order only if he becomes a martyr, and then... he isn't able to do it. He wants it so bad, to be finally free of all expectations AND get unconditional love for once, but when push comes to shove he isn't capable of accepting it. He doesn't want to die but he cannot keep living like this. ZERO likes and I'll start writing his backstory here in choppy english just to share it.

It would be easy for me to look at Karim and go "mamma mia that's a homosexual" but i don't think that's as interesting as what he has actually going on. As a knight he's not truly A Man© but his social status, role (and gender in a way) IS "Knight". He needs to perform masculinity without ever truly feeling it. He has to display his physical prowess and ability to dominate other men (in combat) but completely removed from the sexual role that men are also supposed to have as well.

He (atm) doesn't consider that he might have romantic feelings for a man because he doesn't have a point from which to orient himself. In his mind, relationships with men is what women do, and he's not a woman; but he cannot be homosexual because he doesn't feel like "that kind of man" bc he's been completely cut off from his own sexuality. Accepting that he MIGHT have romantic feelings would be accepting that he has a body and needs and wants and his ass is NOT READY for that conversation yet

I've put Wolfsong on the back burner while I figure out some VERY relevant plot points that I never worked on back when it was just a fun creative writing project. Mostly I've been thinking about how does a town not notice the fact that there are SEVERAL werewolves killing people on a schedule

TL;DR: They work sorta like a false hydra

Now, Uruna and the whole zone know what a werewolf is. Sometimes one turns in public, or someone turns another guy into a werewolf without Baldasar's approval and they don't know the... etiquette. It's fine, the hunters and musketeers usually take care of them when they go rampaging around. No, the real question is "how come no one notices the yearly disappearances of very particular parts of the population".

Well. They stopped existing, in a way.

Now, when a regular werewolf eviscerates you, nothing bad is going to happen to you (besides dying). Your family will cry for you, they will remember your name, etc. However, if you get sacrificed, it's a whole different story. Getting sacrificed means that you know belong to the mist, to Urco, and he devours your whole being. When the ritual commences, your existence is deleted, and everyone who ever knew you -even the werewolves that are eating you right now- forget who you were supposed to be. Every gap in memory will be filled with an explanation that each person will make in their mind individually (often conflicting with others).

YOU remember it, but even if you escape, you cannot go back home. They won't know who you are. You can try to argue your way back in and your family might listen or even believe you, but you'll be putting a target on their backs. You escaped the ceremony and now they want you DEAD dead, and everyone you talked to will be drafted for the ceremony so they cannot talk either. If you manage to escape, you must keep on running. Forever.

Of course, most people won't escape. Once they die, they are permanently trapped on the Cuayada, the mist. An underwater domain from which you cannot ever leave. It's Urco's stomach and he's digesting you. Every time you die there, you lose a bit of yourself. Your body and memories fade, until, with enough cycles, you are truly Gone.

YIPPEEE I'll answer these in a broad sense

🍳 - How well can they cook?

Most of them know how to cook because they had to be self-sufficient in some part of their lives (Sundown, Siv, Rowan) or they actually were taught how to (Wanderer, Galahad). So most of them know how to do it, but it doesn't mean they can do it well. Best cook IMO would be Rowan and Yael; worst are Rey (can't cook for shit, eats things raw and frozen) and Mikh (Knows how to get food, WILL burn the kitchen down)

☂️ - How do they feel about rain?

At worst they're neutral about it because I love rain. Mikh is not the biggest fan, Rey hasn't experienced rain in a century (too cold up there), Sundown and Siv see it as a positive thing they need and Rowan loves a cozy rainy day

I'll do 🌳 (extended family) as an excuse to talk about his family in general.

He has three older brothers and two parents (He/Him and They/Them) and everyone is still alive! Their relationship was "good" but very tense the last few months he spent with them, and at the moment he's stranded from all of them. They never knew what happened to him, just that after a particular one-too-many breakdowns about his future he just grabbed his things in the middle of the night and ran away. No fights, no goodbyes.

His brothers especially miss him a lot and think about what happened and if he's even alive. Even if he came back, they wouldn't be able to recognize him after transition and he won't be the one to tell, so I don't think they'll ever reconcile.

OUGHHH all of these are all about loving and caring... For context, until he was an early adult, he didn't have a healthy version of "love" and he had to extrapolate a lot later in his life. As such, many of the next things come from what he half-learned from his dad, trying to make his own sense of it

HANGING OUT. He's friendly with almost everyone, but he NEEDS to have an escape route. When he willingly stays with someone, to hang out/sleep/do "trivial" stuff, that's actually a huge gesture for him and means he loves and trusts you.

So, he did fall for someone on his original campaign, I removed it later because out of game shenanigans but it made me consider this very question.

He's a bit of a hypocrite. When he LOVES someone, he will excuse a lot of their behavior and go against some of his beliefs (as long as they don't cross any lines) for the person in question.

However, if he thinks there is a power inbalance between them both (and he's on top) he will evade that person FOREVER. He's deathly scared of hurting people he loves.

He needs to be able to leave. That's the only way he will stay and how you can get on his good side, never ever restrict his freedom. Overall, he's a pretty good dude, and as long as you have a good moral compass you'll pass his vibe check. You don't even need to be friendly to him (looking at you, Solitude)
