i thought that niko's hair was more purple (shown in a very and totally well-drawn figure in the bottom right). i swear to god i guess it's the fanart? or something?? that's making me believe that niko's hair is such a prominent colour.
btw ignore the disc logos for reference i just wanted to know if niko was really discord coloured (like how papyrus' scarf is around the reddit upvote colour).

oh yeah i so get that. im glad im making sense haha!! well i dont want to come off as like... i dunno... oversaturated or something. i swear whenever twm released i was obsessed with this silly little game and now the knowledge is kinda slipping away unfortunately </3
like mainly i love seeing the community and the whole like, in-jokes and all + esp with studying them too. like idk i love seeing the silly little social environments around the internet it's great.
but yeahh i so get it though. gosh what a long reblog (though, i mean that lightheartedly! glad to talk to someone)
I love rereading dialogue from the game, so today's rant is sponsored by this exchange:
Niko: Does… does Player know this? Proto: [Of course.] Proto: [From Player's perspective, The World Machine isn't all that special.] Proto: [It's no different from other recreational, game-type software they may have installed on their computer.]
So the thing I wanted to focus on here is that this bit of dialogue means that the twist here is not exactly about what the rules of the game are, but about who is aware of them and how they will react to it. We know how video games work, but it is a completely different one to have Niko as an "external element". To Niko, the twist is that everyone around them is part of a simulation. To the player, the twist is that Niko is not considered to be a part of the simulation. Up to that point we always assumed, to some level, that the "game" contains them and their homeworld as well. It's part of the story we have to believe in to engage with the game base game at its fullest. But Solstice re-frames our perspective of this world, and the entire reason we are there. It changes the stakes.
Niko questions whether we knew all of this, and by that they mean: "did you know this is all just a simulation?" And the implicit question is: if you knew, why didn't you say something before? But... we really didn't. Unless you understand what the Entity means by the world not being worth saving, you're likely assuming the world is made of living beings with their lives outside of our point of view. Niko is special because they can talk to us but we didn't assume that they were outside of the rules of the game.
I think the part that gets to me the most about this exchange is that Niko's trust in us is challenged. What do we know that they don't? What are the stakes for us? What are we able to do as a deity? And, if you add to the fact that they have just started getting their memories back, how does this compare to what they know of us? How is it that we didn't know that we couldn't save both the world and them?
In a Solstice run, Niko needs to gain back their trust in us, but they need to truly believe in us for it, understand that our role has always been to guide them, and that we are doing what we can with the means we have. But once the journey is over, our bond with them is stronger than ever.

YEAH ‼️ gosh i know that oneshot fans are everywhere and all but i've yet to really talk about this?
i mayyy be thinking too much on this (and hopefully this makes SOME sense???) so here's what i can kinda get into so far:
since you know that the player plays as the god of the world, supposedly, and is meant to guide niko—i like to believe whenever you're controlling niko, that's all within niko's control (well, in the game lorewise). whenever you mix things together and prompt niko to use a certain object on something, you're merely making suggestions on what to do. soo there's all of that that's running around my mind lol.
alsoo all that considering that your dialogue options are mainly from your (god) perspective, and never in the form of niko's (i think there's an exception to whenever you barter to magpie, but then again it could just be the player suggesting that to niko).
of course proto knows that all of this world is fake. that everyone within it is just lines of code and bunches of files (i think the lines of code thing is explicity said?). though, i think a person would think much much more about it with the whole "this is all a game". sure, yes, we all know that this is a simulation. the only real elements are technically the player and niko, considering niko was ripped from their world into an artificial one. we know that the author was the one who created the files for this, the one who was able to code all of this.
though, it's rather odd considering like... i think that's the only line given that really connects to how the player even got in connection with niko and the world really. like, yes we know that we are a deity and we are guiding niko—but how'd we get up here?
nevertheless, also, with how this was all written—i wonder how the devs wanted us to react to it. this is some type of weird like fiction reverse engineering exercise reallyyy but tbh i love talking about this.
god i make no sense

i've actually been thinking about this for a bit or so haha. i've been also meaning to reread the dialogue (for the nth time tbh) as well for solstice so this was a nice reminder actually...
i think that there's a whole divide within what you're processing within the game's pov vs your pov and that's why i also adore this game to shreds haha. ofc all games have that (duh) but with that whole exchange between proto and niko really seals the deal.
dw!! i understood what you meant, also! 💜

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello!
Welcome to this stupid blog where I post stupid stuff so you wonderful, great people can see. also, to abuse the text-color changing capabilities i have!
Mostly (as you CAN tell), I'm probably not going to be active much. THOUGH! I do wish to interact with people + make some new friends!
Even though this blog was never meant to be purely active for any purpose, I do hope that I can interact with people that make the content I enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Misc. Things to Mention:

#artsytime ← art #writingtime ← writing/fanfic #sillies ← shitposting #why2kay ← whatever i say #rambles ← whenever i gush over something
i also (sometimes) write a bunch of crack fanfic + original stories. might post them here? but, unsure??
other things!
i am a minor, but i am okay with any age interacting! i don't like to give out my age specifically, though.
i will always make sure if you don't want people under 18 to interact with it; if it's noted in your blog!
