Queer Representation at Chicon (or, why I love Misha more)

I had a very emotional Chicon, but ultimately a very good one.  I may have started or contributed to some “wank” (I really don’t like that word, I think it’s applied in too many situations), but I’m not sorry the issue was raised.  Misha clearly and deliberately opened the floor for someone to talk about the elephant in the fandom. 

I have very mixed feelings about making this post, partially because it is very personal, and partially because I don’t want to give the impression of stirring things up, but in the end I think there’s too many of us that need to hear this.

So, here’s what happened, as I heard and felt it, sourced by my memories (and refreshed by the section of the panel posted on Youtube).  If you’re tired of hearing about it, and/or if you don’t feel personally affected by this or don’t understand why other people are, please move on to someone else’s post.
