Final Portfolio
Most of my final assignments this time were shot in the form of geometric compositions. I really like to shoot the casual scenery and people around me. Most of the photos were taken in Manhattan and the many tall buildings gave me just the right composition. And mostly I used a black and white filter, which also makes the structure of the building look more obvious, and the contrast of light and dark also makes the audience feel more refreshed. There are also some photos taken at home. My favorite is the photo of the fish tank, because the combination of sunlight and shadow makes this photo look more diverse. Generally speaking, my photos are more landscape-based and expressed in the form of geometric composition. It is also a good experience for me, because I need to find the angle to take the best photos, which also makes my Photography experience is more abundant.

HW: Cotton Reading Response
This time I chose her most recent work, entitled Thora at my vanity, Brooklyn, NY, 2021. This work is set in the days of quarantine at home after the outbreak, a moment when it felt like time stopped all over the world and the streets were empty. The subdued color scheme in this photo is a little depressing, but it also struck a chord with me because I was also at home during that time, but it became an unforgettable memory that I wish had never happened.
I chose the famous photographer Nan Goldin, whose work is the most visually striking to me, both in terms of composition and filtering. Since the 1990s, her work has expanded to include installations involving film, narrative scores and extra-paintings. Goldin's work captures life at its most unpretentious and realistic, with themes of love, gender, sexuality and social instability. I also love one of her collections, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency , originally designed as a slide show to entertain her friends. It depicts her friends - many of whom are part of the drug-addicted subculture of New York's Lower East Side - partying, getting high, getting violent and having sex. The representation of color in this one series is all particularly gorgeous, along with the fact that these images are not an exploration of the black and white world or a quest for cleverly assembled shots. goldin is interested in the random gestures and colors of sex and dreams.

Soho and Canal Steet
HW:Documentary
My theme this time was about people and street scenes in Soho and Canal Street. During the shoot I focused on the movement of pedestrians and the use of architecture to form my compositions. I used the camera that came with my phone and added some retro filters in post. During the shoot I paid attention to the movement of pedestrians, such as friends shopping together, street vendors and so on. This also reflects the diversity of Soho and Canal Street. I also found a sweet store during the shoot, a Japanese sweet store, and I think Canal steet is also diverse in terms of food. My theme for this shoot was to show some corners of the city we live in, details that we may not notice in normal times, but when we slow down we can find many interesting details.

HW Exhibition Review
This photo exhibition, organized by a war correspondent named Lynsey Addario, includes evidence of the miserable conditions that many warring countries are suffering from, as well as evidence of nature's punishment of humans. Before entering I was given a catalog of the exhibition and a little introduction by Lynsey Addario. She has been covering conflicts, humanitarian crises, and women's issues in the Middle East and Africa for over 20 years at the New York Times and National Geographic. The first thing that struck me about the exhibition was that the most innocent people in war are ordinary people who are not protected in their own countries, which is unfair to them. In the exhibition, there is also coverage of recent political relief, such as the conflict in Ukraine. In the exhibition, there are many buildings that have been attacked by weapons. The rubble is scattered with the daily necessities and furniture of the inhabitants, which shows that no one knows when these weapons will arrive. Lynsey Addario also captures the many people who have built their own armed forces to protect themselves, the most striking of which is a picture of four women who have taken up arms. On their faces was not only exhaustion but also fear of the unknown. In the exhibition, she also shows the helplessness of the people under COVID-19. The pictures are full of medical equipment, which gives a particularly depressing feeling, and the expressions on the faces of the patients and the parting scenes show that the impact of COVID-19 on human society is enormous.Continue inside the exhibition to see two huge photographs of natural disasters, one of a mountain fire in California on the 13th of July 2021, the origin of which was caused by a dry season that resulted in buildings being damaged or destroyed by wildfires. The destruction of the Amazon jungle in Brazil in September 2021 was irreversible, and the damage to the vegetation was detrimental to the planet. It also reminds me of the hill fires in Australia this year, where thousands of animals lost their homes and the impact on the natural environment, perhaps these natural disasters are another punishment for man's excessive consumption of the planet. Then came the political theme on the Middle East and Africa. Many countries in Africa are now facing political infighting, which has caused many people to lose their homes and live in dislocation. One of the photographs shows a rubber boat packed with refugees from Africa, crammed into this limited space and despite boarding the kayak, what is the future, will it arrive without incident? Or will they be expelled from the border. Although Lynsey Addario has only shown one here, there are thousands of refugees every day who have nowhere to return to. In addition to this there are many women and children who suffer in the poverty of war. In Gondama, in a local hospital, there are many pregnant women in labour, in very poor conditions and even with inadequate medical equipment, but the reality is that they have no choice. Most of the births in these circumstances were due to the lack of medical equipment and the inexperience of the doctors, and the maternal mortality rate was high. Continuing to go deeper into the exhibition, it shows the current situation of many different war-torn countries, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and other Middle Eastern countries. Those photos are full of weapons, blood and violence, but reality forced them to join. I felt very distressed after watching this exhibition at the end, because only a small part of the exhibition is on display. In this world, people suffer from these things every minute and every second, but no one can help them. This also makes me feel that the national government Sometimes it is selfish and incompetent, but as ordinary people, we are more helpless and accepting

“As I looked at the photograph, I romanticized this period in history through VanDerZee’s portrayal of the couple. In the stories, I Heard about it while I was growing up, Harlem was a source of pride.”
I think these two photos match one of Willis' excerpts and the scenes he depicts. First of all, it mentions Harlem, a place that is known internationally as the Black Mecca of the world, where a lot of great black culture has come out of the area. Over time, in the 1920s, Harlem's culture and artistic expression flourished. This period was named the "Harlem Renaissance".
James Vanderzee, a black photographer, is also the photographer mentioned above. I looked through the photographs of this black photographer and his carefully composed, cosmopolitan photographs convey the personality, aspirations, and spirit of his models. His work provides a glimpse into the rich social life of Harlem as it became an influential center of American culture during the Harlem Renaissance. In this photograph, Vanderzee depicts the prosperity achieved by the blacks living in Harlem. A couple in coonskin coats can be seen in the picture proudly posing with their shiny Cadillacs in front of a row of brown sandstones in Harlem all reflecting the prosperity of Harlem. This picture was created during the Great Depression, but his picture never shows the down-and-out side of the city, breaking down the perception of the depressed state of life during the Great Depression. The portrait also depicts the pride of black Americans in succeeding in spite of systematic injustice.

Self-Portrait DIptych
love this photo and feel the same way first and foremost because of the author's way of photography. He places a mirror in nature, and nature becomes his background, and he is his protagonist. And in the author's statement, he found himself in photography, and I felt the same way as he did. I like photography so I took this selfie.
