y’know for me it straight up doesn’t even occur to me to unfollow someone when they stop posting whatever it is i followed them for. unless the thing they’re posting about now is somehow actually actively upsetting to me i just accept it as a part of my life now. i’ll just scroll past it like i’m driving a car and dodging an obstacle on the road. and that part of the road is my daily commute and the thing stays on the road forever and i swerve around it every day for months instead of ever taking the initiative to get it removed. it just adds flavor i guess

Finding out that Frances Dana Barker Gage, a white woman, rewrote Sojourner Truth’s famous speech to be more stereotypically “Southern slave” (complete with slurs and misspellings like dat, dere, dey) when Sojourner Truth was actually from New York and spoke only Dutch until she was almost ten and wouldn’t have actually sounded that way linguistically and decidedly did not use the phrase “Ain’t I A Woman?” at all is…whew. And on top of everything, she embellished details about Sojourner Truth’s life (like the number of children she had/how many of them were sold into slavery), wrote that ST said that she could take beatings like a man, and the reception of the speech in the room (she claims ST was called a n*gg*r, earlier accounts say the room was welcoming).
Lmaooo peak white feminist antics.

The holy grail of searching through academic literature is coming across a string of publications that are like:

You’re Wrong Too; a response to Johnson 2016. Nelson 2016.

The American Justice System is sending a very powerful message.
They will not condemn Nazism. They will only slap the wrists of people (white rightwing men) who storm our most sacred government buildings. Mass shooters will face justice, but the act of mass killing is nothing more than run of the mill murder.
But kill a CEO? Speak out against institutions that kill and cause suffering for millions? That's terrorism. That's a terrorist threat. Nevermind how many mass shooters and capital rioters had bombing plans and what have you. Only killing a CEO will get you terrorism if you're white.
They really want to dissuade us. To make a show of Luigi Mangione so we learn our lesson and leave the rich and powerful alone. Because they'll protect them no matter the cost. Fuck that. Fuck that and this country. Do not get quiet about it. Do not get quiet about Briana Boston either. This is tyranny.

How many of these sound familiar?

Congratulations, you're utilizing AAVE!
How often do you find yourself recognizing when you are? Do you actually know what these words mean? Do you know when they're being used improperly? Are you interested in learning to respect the history behind the dialect?
This thought process, and others, are discussed in my lesson, "It's Giving" AAVE, and the Denied Yet Undeniable Impact of Black Culture.

How to Ditch Amazon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Support your local libraries and the small businesses that are actually making the products you want.  Fuck Jeff Bezos and the systemic, universal worker abuse, gaslighting, and brutality they live off of.

I miss the days when I would hit shuffle on my iPod and it would go through every song I had in a random order, playing each song exactly once, and remembering where it'd left off if I stopped listening for a few hours then went back. Spotify claims it's shuffling all of my songs, yet the same song will come up every day. I tried going in alphabetical order instead of shuffling to keep track. Every 15 songs or so it would jump to a Taylor Swift song that had no business coming up in the order. And that's not just an example, it was literally a Taylor Swift song every time it did this. I miss my iPod. I miss the automated playlists that were based on straight forward data (most played, least played, least recently played, whatever). I miss there not being a mysterious algorithm that tries to guess what I want to hear. I miss owning music. I miss not being accosted with recommendations and artist promotions every time I go to play music. Hell, I miss the wheel with buttons.

The NYPD deleted this tweet, but the fact is they proudly displayed having caught people who took diapers and cough medicine.
Basic. Necessities.
This is not public safety. This is cruelty on display.

Honestly, with all the tradwife cooking trash circulating, it only makes me love B Dylan Hollis more for baking vintage recipes while being openly gay, making sexual jokes, and screaming at the ingredients. He's the antithesis of every soft-spoken cishet woman cooking for her husband and children. You don't have to be an idyllic cottagecore housewife to cook.

I feel like we're losing the art of being civil with people we don't like. I witness a lot of fights between teenagers that start because someone said something that is technically true but also rude/mean to another person and it escalated. When I point out that they didn't have to say that, they say they're not going to be fake. This idea that not sharing every negative thought you have about another person is fake and therefore bad is really not good for society at large but also for an individual's ability to function in any vaguely social environments. Most likely you will have to interact with people who aren't your best friends. It could be coworkers, clients/customers, or extended family. Your life is going to be so much harder if you don't learn to keep the thoughts about their annoying voice, bad smell, or poor lige choices on the inside.

so much of being an ok person is just 1) not panicking, 2) not taking things personally, and 3) not letting the vindictive gargoyle that lives in your head tell you what to do. this sucks because brains love doing those things

"adhd is the easiest disability to have" “sure plenty of people have adhd but most people are faking” “people are abusing the resources that WE need so that’s why i can’t get my adderall!”
there has been an artificial shortage of all adhd medication for the past 4 years in the US. every investigation into this shortage has returned with the unequivocal result that simply nobody thinks we need it enough to solve the problem.
so they point fingers at the “faker” gaming the system to get adderall who “thinks” they have adhd or is “abusing stimulants to get ahead” for a problem that Our system MANUFACTURED.
so we would be at each others throats instead of realizing that our government and big pharma is to blame for all of this. because their First priority is to punish addicts and to punish folks with adhd and to punish anyone who relies on medication. over everything else. even over profit.
