i wasn’t expecting this random dumb post to spark any sort of conversation but i’m glad it did lol
i just really love weird quirky names, as well as media with sharp contrasts in tone. i think ā€˜98 and trimax’s goofiness balances out it’s more depressing moments well while also enhancing them. the humor is what drew me into the series in the first place (i’m new gen but i was more interested in ā€˜98 because it looked more fun lmao), then it’s characters and story got me hooked.
not to keep shitting on stampede, but despite it having some jokes here and there, it’s clearly trying to be more serious from the start, which i don’t think works in its favor. the other iterations (though the manga does escalate pretty quickly) ease you into the world before smacking you in the face, while tristamp literally opens with the great fall. i get that they only had a limited amount of time to convey the story planned, which is a shame, but i think it’s missing a key element of what makes trigun special
regardless of the canon it’s primarily following, whenever i see anyone refer to knives as ā€œnaiā€ in a fic i know to avoid it like a plague. not actually (because i’m unfortunately too desperate for niche content to be too picky šŸ’”šŸ„€āš°ļø), but not only is it basically telling me the author is likely under the tristamp spell, it’s also erasing something very much amusing to me, which is the fact that rem just named this plant baby (after being complicit in killing another one mind you) knives. is it more planned and polished to say knives would try to reinvent/detach himself by renaming himself after his powers? sure. but that’s lame and cringe šŸ‘ŽšŸ‘Ž
seriously though, a lot of things in trigun are frustratingly the way they are just because nightow said so, but this is probably the most predictable ā€œadded depthā€ sort of explanation they could’ve come up with, and it personally has the opposite effect. maybe it’s because i’m not insanely fixated on either of the twins or something, so it just didn’t resonate with me, but it seems like an imitation of something actually meaningful. a detail corporately designed for people to soyjack over and make surface level character analyses about. not only that, but it also kinda contradicts his manga characterization. this is no knives analysis (i’m not qualified) but in trimax, despite not at all wanting to be associated with humanity, he is still undeniably very ā€œhumanā€ at the end of the day, and bro is literally always wearing the uniform of the people that killed tesla. tristamp knives on the other hand is purposely portrayed as inhuman as possible, and is more able to escape his nature or something like that. look, i don’t know how to explain shit, and i know there’s more to it i could get into, but i’m just trying to put my thoughts out here. my point is that the name thing in tristamp is part of this separate characterization that kinda ignores an important aspect of his manga counterpart.
also sometimes things don’t need too serious of a reasoning behind it. i don’t mean this in an anti-intelectual type of way, just that some things are just fun and changing it doesn’t always add much. his name is knives because it’s cool and edgy and he has knife powers and it’s the 90’s. though idk when his powers first showed, an in-canon explanation could simply be that rem noticed them early on and didn’t anticipate that an evil ass name would create a sorta self-fulfilling prophecy. it’s trivial but sounds more interesting to me lol,, someone should write a fic about it

you can headcanon whatever you want, but something about white trigun fans headcanoning wolfwood specifically as mexican kills a part of me tbh. like if you’re latine yourself it’s all fine and good, but sometimes it feels like white people only know one country 😭 it reminds me of how a lot of (usually older) white people irl (in the US at least) automatically assume every latino is either from mexico or puerto rico and don’t consider anything else as if south america isn’t an entire continent that exists ā˜ ļø like damn if you don’t know geography no one’s forcing you to name a specific country, and if you really want to for whatever reason like. be more creative at least. it’s kinda funny though to be choosing a country (when you don’t have any attachment to it) when wolfwood’s gotta be like fifth or sixth generation with probably only minimal knowledge of earth anyway lmao

this has been in my drafts way too long, and again, i suck at writing, but i’ve really needed to say this. how the hell is millionsummers so normalized in the fandom? well i know why, but it’s honestly crazy to me how 90% of the pretty small amount of legato fans in existence ship him with knives. like do you even understand his character? sure if you haven’t read trimax (like too many people) you literally wouldn’t know anything significant about him since he’s just kinda there in the other iterations. all you’d see is evil guy x bootlicker right hand that have minimal interactions with each other. don’t get me wrong, i could get behind that. like it even. but the issue is that there’s more to it than just that. even if you haven’t gotten to legato’s backstory in the manga, it’s clear from the start that the way that knives treats him crosses the line of average evil toxic yaoi bull. like literally the very first time we see them interact knives casually shatters every bone in legato’s body bro. causing irreparable damage and rendering someone a quadriplegic(?) after they were probably trying to get you a new body for the past 7ish years is so romantic, right!! He also just disregards him as a person and is generally shitty and all that which is kinda mean of him to do ngl. yeah you could say erm actually knives does care about legato though, he’s just too much of a stubborn bitch to show it!1!1!!1!! and i agree with that (to an extent, not getting into it though) but like…that doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s literally abusive. and that isn’t even considering literally everything about legato himself. he was horrifically abused for as long as he could remember. he doesn’t know what a healthy relationship of any kind is. he chose to serve knives (despite being well aware of how he was) because he never knew a life outside of that. he thinks that’s all he’s good for and knows he won’t be anything more to knives, yet still kills himself trying to prove his worth. knives is someone he is unhealthily dependent on who causes him to become more and more self-destructive. just because knives isn’t the same as his previous abusers doesn’t mean it’s not just another shitty situation he fell into. i do think legato’s feelings towards knives could be some sort of crush, but it’s more of a one-sided obsession than anything. to think that it’s an actually good cute little pairing baffles me. i do get that the fun of it is the toxicity, but you can explore the character dynamic without them fucking is all.
i think what i’ve said so far is enough of an argument ig, but there’s still my main point left. i held back on this till now because of the crazy amount of people say he wasn’t for whatever reason, but legato was a CHILD when they met. like do y’all SERIOUSLY think he’s an adult here??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really don’t want to pull up panels from his backstory flashback, but you literally cannot convince me. nightow didn’t need to state it outright for it to be pretty obvious that he was a kid. we see how he draws other characters when they were younger as reference so you can clearly see the differences in proportion. i mean just compare it to how he looks throughout the rest of the manga, especially near the end. just because he doesn’t have a confirmed canon age doesn’t mean that there wasn’t an intent there. y’all are grasping at straws to justify it.
also the same applies to elendira (x knives) because of the super secret third legato flashback:
Tumblr media
i won’t count this as proof for legato because tristamp (though a separate canon) kinda muddies it, but woah she’s not an adult. also irrelevant but knives was smiling at him šŸ˜žšŸ˜ž i’d like to think he was nice to them at one point but this isn’t about that. the fact that people probably take this to fuel their millionsummers makes me very very sad.
back on topic though, there’s another side of the copium spectrum. i can’t believe i have to say this, but i’ve no joke seen people say that legato and knives were both teenagers when they met as if that makes any damn sense. the twins are both confirmed over 150 years old. in trimax, the july incident happened ten years by the date before the events of the last few volumes (cited in my last post), and legato doesn’t look all that different in the two flashbacks. and the flashbacks or any other evidence i could pull out my ass don’t even actually matter because knives is old as fuck and legato is obviously a normal human age. again, it’s just straw grasping bro so please give up šŸ˜šŸ™
and if you don’t give a shit and loooove grooming mentally ill teenagers you pick up off the streets then fuck off?? you’re gross and legato would hate your ass. i probably have more to say but i can’t think of anything rn so that’s it for now. millionsummers is cringe and this fandom is a prison. but like a cartoon one where the bars have large enough gaps between them to walk through.

a super common misconception because of ā€˜98, but it’s actually only been a decade (exactly) by the finale.

tristamp (specifically, not trimax or 98’,, they’re great) vashwood is technically a proship
ok so here me out, i’m not one to get twitter bitchy about ships and i know there’s a bunch of degenerates in this fandom that don’t give a shit bout age, but i think it was pretty clear that not much time has passed since wolfwood was experimented on, unlike in trimax where it was stated that like six years had passed (also maylene and jasmine were grown up). my memory’s a little stupid but in a tristamp flashback i think conrad said something about that it’d been half a year since wolfwood got there and also livio was still baby obviously, so if that’s the case and everyone else (legato yo and don’t fuck with me about that) looked the same as they do in the present, then y’know that’s not really a good sign. also he acts more childish and the timeline is obviously more condensed in tristamp which isn’t helping his case. but it’s still kinda a little vague though i guess?? and i get if you’re like me and didn’t really process it and gave studio orange the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t make another of their very interesting creative decisions, but after rewatching it i’m pretty fucking sure they did. you can wait till there’s more evidence, but like normal vashwood is fine anyway (well there’s the whole vash being 150+ but who cares) so it kinda doesn’t affect anything. at least for me since i have big issues with tristamp in general, but this post isn’t about that.
i’m atrocious at putting words together, but in conclusion, studio orange probably made him a minor for some reason? which really sucks.

my trigun fixation is actually so miserable cause why are my two favorite characters the ones that so happen to be doomed by the narrative, having significant deaths in both 98’ and (more skin-rippingly upsetting) trimax and probably in stampede too because it’d be lowkey weird if they didn’t?? like why do they have to be so interesting and the be character types i tend to gravitate to but also just so very very sad. like nightow is literally pure evil and wants me specifically to suffer cause what the balls bro šŸ˜ž

ngl i don’t get the omori fandom like idk if it’s just cause i’m not really much in it anymore but half the posts i see are just random very specific aus with no explanation and yeah making aus is fun and whatever but how many can you even make lol i get the story has some au potential ig but idk where y’all are getting so many ideasšŸ’€ not that it’s necessarily bad thing i just find it funny that i barely see anyone actually talking about the game itself anymore lmao

i love the duality of mp100 arcs because you can describe them either meaningfully or in a really stupid way but i think you need to do both at the same time while leaving out specific details to master the art of perfectly confusing anyone out of context in a way that forces them to immediately watch the show out of curiosity which continues the spread of our mob propaganda. watch mob psycho right now.

i got persona 5 recently and just finished futaba’s palace today but i feel like i can’t say i like it a lot. i think the game is good like the gameplay and characters are solid but i can’t ignore how gross it is. of course what can you expect from an anime game but i thought with how they handled kamoshida it was going to be ok till. it just wasn’t. why the fuck would the writers write the first palace then turn around and let you date grown ass adults and constantly sexualize minors. a lot of times i try to ignore some things in media so i can enjoy it but man. and the fact that it’s hypocritical makes it so much worse for me. but i survived nge (you can like it but it was an absolutely miserable experience for me which i’m not gonna get into) so i can survive 2800 hours of this dumb game. i’m too far into it anyway lmao

i can’t believe i haven’t actually talked about him on here, but JOSEPH. FROM THE GOVERNMENT. he’s my favorite mp100 character and it’s so sad that no one remembers him cause he’s such a real one. all the scenes he’s in are immaculate and he’s so useful and important 🫶 his arc is literally perfect,, it’s definitely one of the top three arcs of the series. just his backstory and the way it’s subtly implied that he wants the ultimate five and toichirou carnally is peak story telling 🄹🄹 rip iosef you will live on in my heart šŸ’”
