ABO Scent List

When I was assigning a scent to every MHA character, I was desperately trying to find a scent guidelist to help me, to no avail. But y’know what they say; be the change you want to see in the world.

NOTE: these scents are not tied to the secondary gender they’re listed as. A beta scent can be used for an alpha, an omegan scent for a beta, etc.

Dynamics and their Scents

Okay, I went through my OneNote and I saw I didn’t have anything general about Scents. Note for all Dynamics

Scents come from the Scent Gland.

Emotions play a huge role for scents.

Their base scent will always be there, emotions just change it in some way.

Some types of scents can be in more than one dynamic.

Note though, the scents are exactly the same.

For Example: Betas and Omegas can share a “freshly baked cookies” scent, or Betas and Alphas can have a “woodsy scent”.

No person has the exact same scent as someone else. They can have similar scents though.

Scents help identify what dynamic someone is, who they are (individually), if they have come of age/presented, and if they’re bonded.

Dynamics use Scents, their Scent Glands, to Scent things as a way to to claim someone or something, or to mark their territory.

Omega

Their base scent is sweet and calm, light and airy.

“Sweet” doesn’t always mean candy or deserts. However, it doesn’t mean it’s not candy or desserts.

Can be things like flowers, or clean sheets.

Negative emotions, like being upset, nervous, scared, etc. will omit a burning scent.

Positive, happy emotions will omit a sweeter scent.

Sad emotions are dulled scents.

Angry emotions let off bitter scents.

Beta

Some AU’s they don’t have scents.

Their base scent are more food-like, warm.

Like warm drinks, coofee or tea, or fresh baked goods.

Negative emotions, nervous, scared, will have a rotting scent.

Positive happy emotions will strong freash scent.

Sad emotions are dulled scents.

Angry emotions are bitter scent.

Alpha

Their scents are full and heavy, nature-like.

Like, woodsy, herbal, freshly cut grass, bonfires, etc.

Negative emotions will omit a wet dog scent, as if they were drenched in water.

Poistive happy emotions omit a fresh scent.

Sad emotions cause the scent to dull.

Angry emotions are rotting scents.

If something doesn’t make sense, don’t be scared to send and Ask!

“Ugh-- Why the hell is everything so loud all the sudden? I was only in that room for, like, a week!” “Room?” “Oh, the sensory deprivation chamber. I didn’t tell you guys about that?”

"Whumpee, oh my gosh, are you okay? Your legs should not bend like that!" "Don't worry this is only like, the third worst thing that's happened to me this week."

"Oop- careful, that's the arm I was stabbed in. Hold my other hand."

"So how long were you kept there?" "Well, I was there for about a week, but don't worry they were only torturing me for like half of it." "They tortured you?"

"Um- Can you hold this, I've only got one working hand." "What happened to your other one?" "I broke it to get out of the handcuffs, remember?"

a Concept™️: sick characters who hide their illness not because they’re ashamed or embarrassed, but because that’s literally the only way they know how to deal with it. before, there wasn’t time, energy, resources to just Be Sick. and they just can’t turn off that instinct in their head that says that sickness just isn’t an option.

so when caretaker asks them why they didn’t tell them they were sick, they turn big, confused, feverish eyes toward them and whisper “I…I can do that? tell you? that’s okay?”

and the only sound you hear is caretaker’s heart shattering as they throw their arms around whumpee and hold them tight.

Luce, could I ask for writing advice please 👉👈

writing advice? aaa i'm not sure i'm the best blog for this but i'll do my best! >:) (i'll try to not base this off of my style, since every writing style is unique!)

before i begin, i want everyone who reads this to keep this thought in mind: there is NO right way to write! everyone's style is different and unique to them, and no one has any right to tell you that your writing isn't proper or "right", because the concept of writing being "right" in a story perspective just doesn't exist. if you have a story to tell, show it in your own way! (but understanding grammar and punctuation, dialogue tones and plot progression can really help you fully convey the story you want to tell and help your readers understand better too!)

use interesting vocabulary

find words that speak to you and incorporate them in your writing! this also helps to diversify your writing and make it interesting as well :D this can also help clearly explain emotions and convey personalities of characters and ideas without needing to explicitly say them

ex (using the word "sad"):

alternatives to "sad": sorrowful, melancholic, dismayed, petulant, crushed, despaired, heartbroken, numb, frigid, somber, listless

if you look up the meaning of each word, they all convey different emotions though tie back to the general feeling of "sad" in the end. for example, "listless" is defined as "(of a person or their manner) lacking energy or enthusiasm", whereas "petulant" is defined as "(of a person or their manner) childishly sulky or bad-tempered". both convey the general emotion of sadness with different connotations. using diverse vocab adds a twist to your writing and also helps to better convey your story/emotions!

i'm including some resources to help with vocabulary if anyone's interested :) (they're ones i often use myself and find helpful!)

thesaurus.com -> basically an online thesaurus, type in a word and it'll find a bunch of unique synonyms for you to use!

onelookthesaurus -> this one is super helpful! you can type in words and phrases and it'll give you alternatives with more depth!

show, don't tell

this is a principle that my writing teacher often hammered into my class' brains. when you show something, you paint a picture in the reader's mind and immerse them more into the story, whereas just telling the reader what was happening eliminates that sense of connection they have to the plot and/or characters. it's important to note that telling isn't "bad", and is best used when you want to convey quicker passages or time or ideas/concepts that aren't as important to the overall story or meaning.

ex:

the happy boy walked down the street

this sentence conveys exactly what is happening and is no more than it's supposed to be: just a happy boy walking down a street

vs

he sauntered down the street, head high, shoulders rolled, and smile more vibrant than the sweltering gaze of the noon sun

this sentence adds immersion to the mix: the reader is able to visualize someone who is obviously happy without the author needing to explicitly say so.

new character speaking = new paragraph

this helps both organize your writing and helps the reader understand who exactly is talking. another thing to note is that it's always especially helpful to make clear of which dialogue is which characters :)

play around with some literary devices!

literary devices, depending on your point of view, can be fun to experiment with in writing! want to convey a deep, emotion point without actually saying the concept out loud? try a metaphor, simile, or even a juxtaposition! going back to "show don't tell", it's also a helpful way to do exactly that: show, and not tell. literary devices help convey ideas, concepts, and information in unique ways, so if you're fond of more "dream-like" storytelling, i'd suggest you take a look at some literary devices and see which ones you like! :)

tell a story that YOU want to tell

writing is always defined by the author. whatever you write for, it should always be a story that you want to tell. i know on tumblr many accounts can ask for requests, and if you're comfortable with taking requests then go for it!! but it's important to note that if you don't see anything among the requests that you really like, don't force yourself to write it. storytelling and writing will always be defined by an author's will and sacrificing your desires for the sake of others won't be any good. this is your pen and paper, and you can write anything your heart desires (within reason)*!

*obviously i mean don't write anything illegal PFBFBT

i think this is all the advice i have to share, i'm not exactly a professional or qualified writer, but i've been writing for a long time and i'm more than happy to share with you all that i've found out in the time in between :) if you have any questions, feel free to send an ask in! Whether they’ve been kidnapped for that long, deployed, missing, on the run, or what have you.

They have not been shown affection for so long that they legitimately forgot what it feels like to be cared about in that way.

And when the hug finally comes? It’s almost overwhelming. Or euphoric. Or causes an immediate breakdown.

Bonus points if:

Whumpee used the idea of being held/comforted by Caretaker to get them through the ordeal, and they remark that it was exactly as soothing as they remember.

WHUMPEE WANTS A HUG BUT DOESNT KNOW HOW TO SAY IT

Someone unusual swoops in to hug them first, making them realize that they just missed being loved.

Whumpee fakes an injury/nightmare just to get the comfort because it’s easier than asking.

kissing your lover’s forehead as they’re dying in your arms

being forced to watch the love of your life move on with someone else, you’ve gathered enough courage to tell them you want to be with them, only to catch them holding hands with someone else 

our family won’t approve of our relationship but we have to stick together, until one day you question if the relationship is even worth all this secrecy and i can’t believe that you’d doubt us even for a second

i’m finally ready to be with you, but you’ve finally moved on from me, and i’m too late

we can’t be together but let’s make the most of the night before we have to go our separate ways, maybe watch the stars as we talk about how we would have gotten married, how many kids we would have had, if the odds had been in our favor

coming home to find your lover cheating on you, throwing all their things out the window and cursing them out of your life, wondering how they could do this to you ‘’you can’t claim to love someone, and then go and do what you just did.’’ 

being forced to kill your lover, because only one of you are going to survive, and your lover insists they couldn’t live in this life without you ‘’just promise me you’ll be happy. promise me you will be.’’ 

it’s been months since we broke up and i just found one of your old sweatshirts in my wardrobe and it’s making me miss you 

we haven’t seen each other in years but reunite at a mutual friend’s wedding, things ended badly between us and we both know it’s better to avoid each other but of course we’re seated at the same table, opposite each other 

we’re broken up, you’re over at my house to pick some of your stuff up, and neither of us know how to act, so i just let you inside, you grab your things, and leave as quickly as you came

you’re over at my house to pick some of your stuff up, and as you load the last of your things into your car, you head back to my front door to say goodbye, and somehow… we wind up in bed 

being forced to kill your lover, but you can’t do it, so they take your hand, and help you press the knife into their chest, while the antagonist watches your every move, making sure neither of you try to run 

having to watch your lover die, as you’re restrained by the antagonist, unable to fight your way out of their grip, yet your eyes are glued on your lover’s 

having to say goodbye to your lover, who’s moving across the world, kissing them goodbye one last time before they board the plane. during your last kiss, your lover says they didn’t think you would make it to the airport but ‘’i couldn’t let you leave without saying goodbye.’’ 

two character’s dying together, laying outside in the cold, rain, holding hands 

a love triangle in which, lover #2 recognizes how toxic lover #1 is for the main character ‘’one of you will end up killing the other. whether that’s physically or emotionally, one of you will end up killing the other. there’s no dimension in this world where the two of you end up happy.’’

accidentally catching your ex or the person you’re in love with getting frisky with someone else, and having to pretend like it doesn’t bother you

going to your lover’s house to apologize for something you did, but instead of being let in, you get the door slammed in your face ‘‘why are you here?’‘ ‘‘i’m here because i love you, and because i want to make things right.’‘ ‘‘well, i don’t want you here, so go away.’‘

one character, with trust issues, gets drunk one night and spills how insecure they are in the relationship ‘’you don’t. you don’t love me. you only love me when it’s beneficial.’’ or the partner is caught cheating and the character drops those words

your lover telling you that they don’t love you anymore, or that they’ve found someone else, and as you pack your things, you find a photo of the two of you together, from a time when you were happily in love

unrequited love, in which i just poured my heart out to you, telling you i love you and you said that you don’t feel the same way, and then you leave, and i’m standing here, not sure what to do, i can’t even cry that’s how shocked and heartbroken i am

‘‘you’re the worst thing that has ever happened to me. no, listen to me. you’ve destroyed me.’‘ 

a break up in which, one person doesn’t have any feelings for the other anymore, while the other one is still head over heels in love with them ‘’but that doesn’t mean that our love wasn’t real. doesn’t mean that you didn’t love me enough, or that you weren’t loved. you were. you’ll always be.’’ ‘’just not in the way i love you.’’ ‘’no.’’ 

promising your lover that you’ll make it home in time for your anniversary, but something comes up and you’re late, which screws up all your plans for the evening, and instead of celebrating your anniversary, your lover goes to bed, and barely utters one word to you the next morning

it’s toxic, and we’re not good for each other, and ‘’i love you so much it’s killing me.’’

begging your lover to open the door so you can talk things through ‘’i know you’re in there. [character], please, open up.’’ but as they won’t, ‘’at least let me say goodbye.’’ 

a character using their last bit of strength to kiss you goodbye, before they close their eyes for the last time 

two characters are about to kiss, but pulls away last second when one character says ‘’this isn’t right.’’ and the other replies with ‘’you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.’’ 

‘’you said you wouldn’t break my heart, and then that’s exactly what you did.’’ 

‘’i don’t want to listen to a single word coming out of your mouth.’’

‘‘we can’t be together. it’s too dangerous. you understand that, right?’‘

one character, who’s either been brainwashed or cursed by the antagonist into trying to kill their lover, has their lover pressed up against the wall, a knife to their throat, having tried to convince their lover to kill them instead, before they hurt them, in which their lover says ‘’go ahead. do it. if you’re telling the truth, if you’re so convinced you’ll kill me, do it.’’ and the character stares at their lover, who then says ‘’if you weren’t in control, you would have done it a long time ago.’’ and it then leads to the character slowly gaining back control, breaking the curse or whatever. alternatively, if you’re related to the devil himself, you could have the character kill their lover, and then right after they’ve killed them, they snap out of it, dropping the knife to the ground, in pure shock as they watch their lover’s dead body fall to the ground ? you guys wanted angsty prompts it’s not my fault also i’ve done this to my own character welcome to hell

Whumpees with silent panic attacks, their heart racing and chest constricting but they’re in public so they force a smile and nod that they’re fine. It’s fine. Don’t worry about them. 

Whumpees who when triggered, just find an excuse to leave and have a mental breakdown in their car.
