I can't write...
Without listening to music. I've heard people say the opposite before though; that it distracts them. What about you? Do you like to listen to music when you write, or do you prefer silence?

Personal Writing
The cosmic rays danced around the sunlight,
As it descended from above and landed on our skin,
He was mine and,
I was his.
We sang in harmony through the night,
As we watched our souls in effortless flight,
I looked into his eyes,
And he into mine,
At that moment,
I knew I'd be alright.

Note
As a writer, what is your biggest insecurity?
Concerning my writing specifically, I would have to say that feeling as though people are lying to me and telling me that my writing is good, when in reality, it's not.
But that has never been the case, so far as I can tell. I've had a great many people consistently tell me that they love my writing. So I guess it's a bit irrational but it's always a thought at the back of my mind.

Spiritualism of Writing #1
Something I have found that is an amazing experience, is to get into a group with other writers and talk about writing. Share what you've wrote, give feedback to others, talk tips. Just let the conversation flow. When writers get together, it is such a flow of creativity and imagination all at once!
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and find a group! Google for groups that may exist around you, or if there aren't any, make one! Ask your friends who you know are writers if they'd like to meet periodically to discuss writing.

Writer Tip #1
While meeting with my writers group once, an author I had much respect for and had worked closely with for months, got onto the subject of amateur mistakes. As she was listing some off, and rambling a bit in other directions, I spotted one that I have seen in a lot of writing I have read.
A lot of times novice writers tend to put the action after the dialogue. Coming from the lips of this woman, I consider this pretty sound advice.
This isn't acceptable: "Pass me the salt." John said, as he reached for the salt.
It should be this: As he reached for the salt, John said "Pass me the salt."
To be fair, this rule can have an exception. Let's say your character is only getting to a certain action in the middle of what they're saying. In that instance, I would consider it ok to break the above rule.
