A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life. (at Uptown) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEzzpn-hXiK/?igshid=5twl0co4c5x3

As long as this inescapable chaos is the new normal, all we can do now is learn to breathe through it. As far as I’m concerned, at this point, breathing through the bullshit is our only option. . Why mindful breathing? Because when we focus on breathing, we’re able to keep our shit together when we’re reading the news or scrolling through Twitter, when we’re in the streets, and when we’re in difficult conversations with loved ones. https://www.instagram.com/p/CD1bWLKhMFK/?igshid=eweqnpgyv1c0

I don’t know why I’ve resisted naps so much. I think it’s because part of me has always equated my self-worth with how much I can produce—and it’s definitely led to burnout on more than one occasion. For a self-proclaimed workaholic perfectionist overachiever, letting myself take a nap was actually quite the accomplishment. You deserve it too! https://www.instagram.com/p/CBQsfIIB_f9/?igshid=gb6ll4uwczsp

Have you ever done an energy inventory? It oonly takes 30 seconds. Before you sleep, or whenever works best during your day, ask yourself: Where did most of my energy go today? Once you start to pay attention, it's amazing how much energy you can claim back for things that actually matter and drive you forward. I can’t seem to shut down my brain at night. My thoughts immediately become consumed with my to-do lists, forgotten tasks, and overall work-related anxiety.⠀ _⠀ And it seems like the harder I try to force out the thoughts or drown them out with my noise machine, the louder, more incessant they become.⠀ _⠀ I thought of the Erma Bombeck quote “Worrying is like a rocking chair. It will give you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere.” What helps you get over that worrying voice in your head?⠀ _⠀ #africamodels #blackisbeautiful #darkskinmen 📸 @carolinelima.co https://www.instagram.com/p/B3uzf0zBfaO/?igshid=r20iiojpc9gz

Some self-help books and IG accounts can over-simplify the struggles or the amount of time it might take to do real work on yourself. Or: They can preach toxic positivity, making it seem like any vibe that isn't "good" is bad.⠀ ⠀ This can lead to a cycle of feeling "not enough," like you’re “doing it wrong” if it doesn’t feel easy, or burnt out before you even start. Oh, everyone's already got it handled and I'm way behind, you think as the world shouts at you “You’re exactly where you need to be!”⠀ ⠀ The truth of the matter is: Everyone is on a different journey—which means we all might have different solutions. No matter what the advice is—and it might be coming from a good place (…or not)—if it ignores a diversity of backgrounds or systemic reasons for inequality, it can feel like it's not speaking to you in any real way.⠀ ⠀ shot by @iulia_david_photography⠀ Model @iamjalicia⠀ makeup @karlapowellmua ⠀ Retouch @ted_retouching https://www.instagram.com/p/B0GuxRfBs2H/?igshid=ynjd7nt6pl5k

Reframing your failures as missed attempts in need of rerouting, rather than the end of the road, can stave off that urge to quit. Personally, I love to be right. Let me rephrase that: I need to be right. When I fail at something, I feel an instant wave of shame. I was supposed to be right, and I wasn’t. Now what? Disrupt the cycle by letting yourself experience the bummer that is failure. Validating those emotions will keep them from dragging you back down in the future, while taking time to mourn can help you understand what to do differently next time.#checkonthat https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz8LLlVBYYe/?igshid=17fhlxqiqyxz7
