mydei remembers the first time his little girl cried. not like crying when she was first born, but crying when she saw him, body soaked in blood. it wasn't his, but she was a little girl no older than 4 at the time and didn't really comprehend that.

he remembers her [color] eyes going glossy with tears, pudgy [tone] cheeks going red the same as her nose as her wails rang through her room and even echoing in the halls outside her room. her nanny tried to calm her down, tried to reassure her that her father was fine, but she wouldn't listen.

he remembers kneeling in front of her, taking her small hands into his larger ones. "i'm alright, princess. your daddy's not weak," he had said gently, wiping away her tears, touch gentle like she was made of glass. his heart that day felt like it had been pierced by a thousand blades as he heard her hiccups and sobs.

he remembers how for the rest of the day she had clung to him, following him around like a little duckling and only letting him out of her sight when either she needed to use the restroom or he did. even when he had a meeting to attend or people to deal with, she rested in his arms or clung to his leg, a firm and determined expression on her face.

mydei remembers, and he hopes it never happens again.

such a diligent and caring knight he is, always by your side and making sure that nobody gets too close to you. he's always inspecting the person you're talking to, even if it's a noble.

knight! cole just loves when you let him enjoy some tea and snacks with you during tea time. you're sure he can enjoy those delectable looking cupcakes that, oddly enough, are his favorite flavor with black frosting and sprinkles on top? well, you don't have to tell him twice!

always making sure he looks good while training or sparring with other knights so that if you ever pass by the training grounds, you'll find him looking stunningly handsome as his blade clangs against his opponent's.

the secret kisses shared between you and him in the privacy of your chambers become more and more frequent as your relationship progresses, and soon enough you'll grow bold enough to kiss knight! cole in the throne room when you're sure nobody is looking. he'll get all blushy and look away, trying to hide his pink-tinted face, but suddenly another knight is asking for his presence and you encourage him to go, telling him you'll be fine.

knight! cole hates when issues arise at the borders of the [kingdom / empire] because now he has to go and deal with it and he doesn't enjoy being away from you for so long. he'll write you letters almost every day and eagerly await for your replies. even when he's far away he's still nagging you in his letter about how you better be eating well and not stressing yourself out too much with royal affairs!

some of the servants and maids in the palace can't help but think that knight! cole is getting special treatment, but they wouldn't dare say anything about it. they'd never ever question your intentions!

...but they will spy on you both!!

he tries not to think about you too much, but it's just so hard!! your smile is sweeter than any cake he's ever eaten, and speaking of cake, he's still giggling over that slice of cake you brought him yesterday after dinner, telling him it was specially for him.

he's usually a pretty sensible and rational guy (or so he likes to believe), so he knows romance isn't really something he can think about a lot due to his job as a ninja, but now you're asking how the mission went and suddenly he's melting as he watches you prepare him a light snack to help him feel more energized.

whenever he's out eating with the other ninja at chen's noodles, he'll go quiet and focus on his phone mid-conversation as you text him. it was just a simple question, like if he was having fun or if he could bring you some takeout when they leave, but suddenly it became a full on text conversation. cole doesn't realize how much time he's spent on his phone, smiling like a dummy, until one of the ninja (most likely jay or kai) point it out, teasing him and making him of red in the face.

walking through the streets, simply enjoying the soft breeze and afternoon sun, and suddenly cole's thinking 'hey, [name] would like this!' as he spots something in one of the shop's windows. he doesn't even think twice before buying it, but the more he does it the more the realization dawns on him that man.. he's utterly obsessed.

suddenly becoming much more flustered whenever you walk out only to find him training, be it alone or with the other ninja. he feels a bit exposed, not uncomfortably so but in a way that makes him feel like he's showing off a bit too much..

hanging out alone suddenly makes cole all giddy and fuzzy inside — sometimes he hopes the situation will go romance movie route and by the end of the hang-out session he's either kissed you or you've kissed him (preferably you kissing him because he's too nervous to make the first move, surprisingly.)

"dearest, what are you doing—?!" reca tries to get off of your shoulder as you begin to walk away, leaving the poor person dumbfounded as they tried to give out orders to the other staff, but even the slightest of movements have you adjusting your hold higher on him.

still, reca squirms and kicks his legs lightly in hopes of annoying you to the point of putting him down. he's a busy man and he still has five more scenes to shoot for the day!

"stop squirming around, you're a grown man not a damn rat," you huffed, making reca pout and glare at you. "well maybe if you put me down—!!" again, reca was cut off as you moved to instead carry him bridal style.

that shut him up, and he didn't complain for the rest of the walk to the dressing rooms.

snapping her fingers in front of your face, nya lifted a brow. "helloooo? earth to brookstone?"

it takes you a few more seconds before you shake you head and look away, twiddling your thumbs which feel much more warm than before. "o-oh, y-yeah! i'd love to- yeah! would love to be y-your partner and- and yeah! y-yeah!" if it weren't for the way you nodded your head, nya honestly wouldn't have understood a thing.

smiling in amusement, her eyes close and she laughs softly which only makes your situation worse as you practically shrink into yours, what remains of your confidence dying out.

"good. i'm glad the feelings mutual," she hummed, pressing a soft kiss onto your cheek (which feels like molten lava from how hot you are right now.)

winking at you as if for a final blow, nya walks off to do whatever it was ninja did, leaving you clenching at your chest where your heart would be.

"hey cole, can you pass me the salt?" you asked, looking up from your meal and at your older brother. cole looks at you, then at his other friends, then back at you. giving an innocent smile, he picks up the salt shaker with a trembling hand.

"oh, yeah! i'd love to- yeah! would love to be p-pass you the salt and- and yeah! y-yeah!" he stutters as he holds out the salt shaker at your direction, snickering as he looks away with faux shyness. his behavior makes your eye twitch, and you glare at him with squinted eyes as the ninja snicker.

snatching the salt from his hand, you shake the glass shaker over his plate of food making him yelp and quickly slide his plate away. "hey!" he whines, glaring back at you. you just stick your tongue out at him.

(I'm surprised people even liked the first little princess post in the first place LAWL) — the reader is based off of sienna/sianna from baby tyrant (gender-neutral reader still!) so when i was writing i had it in mind they died during childbirth (even if reader is a guy yk mpreg probably exists in star rail.. actually no it 100% does anything and everything exists in star rail !!)

however it can be up to interpretation how the reader died since I've kept their character as a whole pretty vague so the reader can imagine everything as they please :3

when he doesn't give a reply, you just snicker, turning your head to face him. despite the room being filled to the brim with various crafts — sculptures, paintings, etc. — cole was easy to spot as he stuck out like a sore thumb with the black gi he wore. not to mention he smelled faintly of sweat and heavily of earth.

it wasn't unusual for cole to rush to you the second he came back from a mission, and it also wasn't unusual for him to find you indulging in your passion for art most of the time. every time, without fail, he'd fall into a state of silent awe even though he's seen everything in your art room a million times before. silently admiring your craft as his heart swells with more and more love.

"hello? earth to earth ninja?" you drawled, flicking some paint at cole. the sticky feeling makes him squirm in discomfort and his awe-filled expression turns into a pout, brows furrowing. "Hey!" he huffs, wiping the paint off his cheek with his sleeve — something he'll definitely regret later.

your knowing smile makes cole's annoyance vanish in seconds, and wordlessly, he makes his way over to you, making sure to be very careful with every step so he doesn't knock something over. he sits next to you on the stool you had placed beside you the moment you began to work on the painting in front of you.

because you knew he'd always join you, him rambling on about his day while you nodded along, working on your projects.
