there you were, at the beach watching the sunset with your ex boyfriend of 2 years, meeting up in an attempt to fix your broken relationship. jungwon was everything you've ever wanted. he was funny, smart, kind, he always took you into consideration no matter the scenario. it was almost like you were the perfect pair.

"do you remember our first date?" you look away from the sunset, placing your vision onto jungwon.

jungwon laughs, remembering that day vividly. "yeah, i spilt bits of iced coffee onto your skirt."

you both laughed over the shared moment, the tension easing slightly. but as the laughter faded, the weight of your breakup settled back in.

"why does it feel like we're always fighting an uphill battle?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.

jungwon's smile disappeared, replaced by a look of resignation. "i don't know.. maybe because we're trying to hold onto something that's already broken beyond repair."

you felt pain from his words, tears flowing from your eyes. the sight of your tears only broke jungwon's heart. "i love you... but sometimes it's love itself that breaks us." he rubs your back gently.

"i love you too." you tried to speak, tears flowing down more than previously. you tried to get yourself back together, before looking at him once more.

"maybe we just need to accept that some things just can't be fixed.. maybe holding on is only making it worse for us."

jungwon squeezed your hand gently, placing a small kiss onto your knuckles. "we were always the perfect pair, weren't we?.. but you're right, love isn't about holding on, it's about knowing when to let go.." he stops, small tears forming in his eyes. " even if it tears you apart."

as the sun finally sets, you and jungwon sat in silence, holding hands and letting the reality of the situation settle in. it wasn't perfect, nor was it easy. jungwon was everything you needed, letting him go was for the best, you just couldn't wrap it around your head.

the memories you shared were tainted by mutiple misunderstandings and the constant strain of trying to fix something that's long broken.

"i don't know how to say goodbye." you whispered, your voice breaking.

jungwon looked at you, his heart breaking as he watched you. "me neither, but we have to my love. for both of our sakes."

you finally stood up, the finality of the moment pressing down on you like a weight. "thank you for everything." you said, your voice thick with emotion. "i'll never forget all the memories we made together."

"i won't either.. you'll always be my love." jungwon nods, tears spilling from his eyes as he watches you turn around and begin to walk away.

you walked away, not only holding onto your heart, but holding onto the memories of jungwon. his scent, the way his arms felt when he held you. how excited he got when his favorite dessert was in front of him. the way he watched the rain fall on a stormy night.
