They can coexist! And probably should!! We should probably be having various conversations about this sort of topic!

Because on one hand tons of people can find themselves in Curly’s position and don’t intervene even if they have safe ways to; so many people are hesitant to believe survivors & take hard action without “proof” regardless of how difficult/impossible that may sometimes be. Curly being one who’s always “looking at the bigger picture” is almost certainly a jab at rape culture & we should use this game to talk about the problems within said culture + how to better support survivors when encountering difficult situations

And AT THE SAME TIME,

Its ok to acknowledge that Curly isn’t exactly a bad guy & wasn’t actually in a very safe position to help despite his perceived power as captain on the tulpar.

There’s really not a lot he could’ve done without:

A. Revealing what happened to Anya when she may not want to tell the others

And/Or

B. Potentially causing harm/scaring Jimmy into outright aggression

Thats not even acknowledging how hard it’d be Keeping Jimmy in 1 spot/away from others without using a cryopod (which we don’t know the specific functions of). They had SO MUCH time left on that job shipment & we have no gurantee that any legal moves would be able to be made in their favor when they landed. Hell, they might even get an assault charge from Jimmy’s side- or get some sort of charge from the company over using resources like a cryopod?? We dont know, but if the legal system is anything like in our real world, we can assume it’d be a shitstorm

It’s, to say the least, a complicated situation; and its ok to have complicated & sometimes conflicting feelings over it

'curlys lack of proper intervention enabled jimmy to continue his abuse towards anya and the rest of the crew and his character is a showcase of how men refuse to acknowledge the issue and take it seriously when their friends turn out to be predators. his inaction becoming the initial cause of everyones demise in the end is part of the games commentary on rape culture and how it affects the victims and everyone around them'

'curly isnt an inherently evil person but in fact a very human and relatable character who was genuinely upset with wht jimmy did but didnt want to take drastic measures in tht very moment to avoid causing more harm to anyone bcuz he knew jimmy was unpredictable and prone to becoming aggressive and he tried to handle the situation carefully (altho failed to do so in the end)'
