After taking the season series vs. Las Vegas, the NY Liberty look like the new team to beat.
Tumblr media
The regular season is winding down, and the playoff picture is all but complete. We all know anything is possible in the W, but right now it seems to be just a two-horse race for the WNBA championship. In one corner, you have the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces. In the other you have the #1 contender, the NY Liberty.
Tumblr media
For most of the season, the defending champions had been squarely in the driver’s seat. Rightfully so, seeing how they are clearly the most talented team in the W. But as of late, there has been a shift in power. The Aces may have the most wins ever in a single season (30 wins with 4 games left), but not far behind them are the NY Liberty with 28. With the Aces falling apart, this is the perfect time for the Libs to be on a 4-game winning streak. The most recent win coming last night against (guess who) The Las Vegas Aces. This win gives them a 3-2 record against arguably the most stacked roster in the history of basketball, women’s or men’s.

Now as much as it may seem like a sure thing that we’ll see these two teams in the finals, it’s far from a forgone conclusion. There are still games to be played, and a lot can happen between now and the championship round. With that being said, if there’s a team you absolutely don’t want to play right now, it’s Stew York City. Breanna Stewart is playing what could possibly be her best basketball right now, which would mean a lot since she is a living legend of the game. Stewie just turned 29 last night and is fighting for her 3rd championship, along with another (soon to be) legend in Sabrina Ionescu, who is looking for her first title. Let’s just say the Aces have their work cut out for them.

LV Aces superteam win their (WNBA record) 30th game of the season.
Tumblr media
We may have just witnessed the most dominant regular season ever seen in pro basketball. The reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces look ready to run it back, becoming the first team in league HERstory to eclipse 30 wins. MVP A’ja Wilson is on pace to win the award again this season as well, leading the way with 22 points and 9.5 boards per game. Throw in fellow All-Stars Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray, and you’ll see why they’ve steamrolled the competition all season long. But, the work doesn’t stop here. There is another superteam up north called the NY Liberty, and they are not afraid. Barring any catastrophic upsets, we should be seeing these two teams face off for all the marbles soon.

Connecticut Sun F Alyssa Thomas breaks WNBA record for double-doubles in a season.
Tumblr media
Today in HERstory, we celebrate another WNBA record being broken. Current assists (8.1 per game) and rebounds (9.9 per game) leader Alyssa Thomas did everything she could to try and knock off the NY Liberty Thursday night. The Connecticut Sun fell short by a score of 95-90, but not for a lack of effort on Thomas who put up 22 points (50% from the field) with 12 assists and 7 rebounds. This was her 24th double-double, which sets a new record for the most in a WNBA season. Thomas has had a great season that could very well give A’ja Wilson some competition in the MVP race.

“KD with a coochie” is a nightmare for the dream, ties Liz Cambage’s WNBA record of 53 points.
Tumblr media
The reigning WNBA MVP and DPOY is at it again. Last night vs the Atlanta Dream, A’ja Wilson went nuclear and dropped 53 points with 7 rebounds. In the process, she made HERstory tying Elizabeth Cambage for the most points ever scored in a WNBA game. A’ja was surgical, shooting an efficient 16-for-23 from the field. These are the kind of performances that earned her the title of “KD with a coochie”. This is just another one of the many records she’ll break before all is said and done.
