and if your issue is that you can't see him joining the Ministry after everything he'd faced with them- I ask you to have a little more faith in a Ministry run by Kingsley Shacklebolt and later, Hermione Granger. And keep in mind that Harry becomes Head of the Auror Office and would definitely use the opportunity to rework the system.

A Harry Potter hill I’ll die on: Gosh, I dunno. I agree with everything chocfrog said about Dumbledore, he's definitely not a "bad" character. Another thing is that canon is 100% better than fanon. Most of fanon appalls me with its blatant mischaracterization and its absolutely wild headcanons... the fanon!marauders are literally entirely different characters, and the lore that fans have come up with doesn't even come close to Harry's story.

If I were to name a pet after a HP character, who would I choose: Technically Sirius, but I'd name him 'Padfoot'. I'm a dog person, but if I kept a cat, then Minerva :3 [Crookshanks if the cat is ginger, of course]

Another example is as follows-

'Yes, that's what made me think maybe it wasn't a good idea after all…' Peeves floated over them on his stomach, peashooter at the ready; automatically all three of them lifted their bags to cover their heads until he had passed. 'Let's get this straight,' said Harry angrily, as they put their bags back on the floor, 'Sirius agrees with us, so you don't think we should do it any more?' Hermione looked tense and rather miserable. Now staring at her own hands, she said, 'Do you honestly trust his judgement?' 'Yes, I do!' said Harry at once. 'He's always given us great advice!' An ink pellet whizzed past them, striking Katie Bell squarely in the ear. Hermione watched Katie leap to her feet and start throwing things at Peeves; it was a few moments before Hermione spoke again and it sounded as though she was choosing her words very carefully. 'You don't think he has become… sort of… reckless… since he's been cooped up in Grimmauld Place? You don't think he's… kind of… living through us?' [...] The bell rang just as Peeves swooped down on Katie and emptied an entire ink bottle over her head. [OOTP]

What I love about the humour in Harry Potter is that there's underlying humour practically everywhere. There aren't just big, explicit, particularly significant funny "ha-ha" moments- there's so much just slipped in between the lines and dialogues that several years later I still newly find hilarious moments that I missed in all of my earlier rereads.

Jo also makes a point of involving background characters in these less noticeable funny scenes- it doesn't always have to be the main characters who share a joke and bring it to the forefront of the story. I love how even while the main characters are clearly shown having a serious, heartfelt conversation, there's always some unhinged shit going on in the background, because that's just the duality of life.

Yet another instance of how Jo's writing is so real.

ootp is both hilarious and sad, like one page I'll be like "oh poor harry, can't he ever catch a break" and the next I'll be in tears from laughing...and the older I get the more I appreciate all the layers of it. honestly, I'd say Jo was at her best humour wise in ootp, closely followed by dh and hbp, like she was on fire in these 3 books. don't get me wrong all 7 are still to this day able to make me laugh, but those 3 are special...

Anyway:

But about HP yapping- I’ve gotten really into a specific smaller Potter character ( Scabior the Snatcher ) and so I’d love to hear what you think about this character - book!verse & movie!verse if you’re up to it!

Yess!! JKR's works seem to form more than half of my interests, lmao- and of course, I love Sherlock too <3 I'm going to be honest, I wouldn't have recognised the name 'Scabior' if you hadn't mentioned that he was a Snatcher. Whenever I reread that part, I'm generally busy being worried about the Golden Trio, and being disgusted at Greyback-- so I've hardly noticed the rest of the Snatchers before.

So-- Scabior!

“Check the list, Scabior.” said Greyback, and Harry head him move sideways to look down at Ron, instead. “And what about you, Ginger?” “Stan Shunpike.” said Ron. “Like ’ell you are.” said the man called Scabior. “We know Stan Shunpike, ’e’s put a bit of work our way.”

Clearly, Scabior and his group have fractionally more awareness than the group that had previously caught Ron, seeing as they know who the real Stan Shunpike is.

"A Weasley?” rasped Greyback. “So you’re related to blood traitors even if you’re not a Mudblood. And lastly, your pretty little friend...” The relish in his voice made Harry’s flesh crawl. “Easy, Greyback.” said Scabior over the jeering of the others.

Here's something interesting. All the other Snatchers seem to have no qualms about Greyback's desire to bite Hermione- Scabior alone advises Greyback to control himself. Personally, I find it unlikely that this is out of sympathy for Hermione; it's probably because watching Greyback attack Hermione isn't something he fancies doing. Regardless, this is the only, very minor redeeming quality that Scabior seems to possess, in contrast to the obvious rashness of the other Snatchers.

Another thing that we notice is the way he addresses Greyback. I don't think it would be easy to be able to comfortably speak to a werewolf who is widely known to have a taste for human flesh even in human form. Greyback would naturally pose a threat to the Snatchers themselves as well as he would to their victims.

“Who’s in charge here?” roared Greyback, covering his moment of inadequacy.

Scabior, however, is able to speak to Greyback normally- casually, even. Greyback may be in charge, but Scabior is clearly handling some of the responsibility as well in leading the group, as we mostly see him and Greyback speaking, while the other Snatchers barely utter a couple words. Scabior is focused on the job, and seems to be in charge of keeping Greyback in check so that the latter doesn't end up attacking all of their captured victims before they receive their award.

“... What house were you in at Hogwarts?” “Slytherin,” said Harry automatically. “Funny ’ow they all thinks we wants to ’ear that.” leered Scabior out of the shadows. “But none of ’em can tell us where the common room is.”

“’ang on a minute, Greyback! Look at this, in the Prophet!” “’ermione Granger,”’ Scabior was saying, “‘the Mudblood who is known to be traveling with ’arry Potter.”’

Two instances of intellect from Scabior there- understanding the thought processes of their various victims and being ready to challenge them with a question that only Slytherins (generally) would know; and recognising Hermione from the Daily Prophet, which Greyback and the others failed to do. To them, Hermione wasn't as important as Harry [10 Galleons for catching a Mudblood, while 200,000 Galleons for catching Harry Potter], but he still recognises her- and it is entirely because of this revelation that they realise who Harry is.

"... I say we take him straight to You-Know-Who.” “Will you summon ’im? ’ere?” said Scabior, sounding awed, terrified. (...) “. . . completely sure it’s him? ’Cause if it ain’t, Greyback, we’re dead.”

Like most of Voldemort's followers, Scabior possesses an equal degree of awe and fear of Voldemort (I'm sure he'd never even met Voldemort in person). Again, we see how he is generally less rash than Greyback-- he wants to be absolutely sure that they've caught Harry, while Greyback is ready to rush off on a whim.

Scabior in the films was decidedly more sinister and was meant to be more violent.

Scenes that were cut from the film involved Scabior being violent and perverse. Nick Moran (Scabior's actor) said: "It's all very reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s. I give Ron Weasley a proper kicking and call him Ginger. Then I sniff Hermione and say: "You're going to be my favourite". If you take the wands out, it's something out of an Eli Roth movie." [Harry Potter Wiki]

He's seen wearing Hermione's scarf, and suffers a far more brutal punishment at the hands of Bellatrix, compared to the books. [in the books, he's merely Stunned, while in the movie, he's briefly strangled.

All in all- Scabior and Greyback are a representation of the less sophisticated side of Voldemort's followers-- they're sent out to do all the legwork, catching truants in return for gold. To say he completely lacks intelligence would be wrong; he certainly does possess more intellect and understanding than other Snatchers, at least.

hi!! i loveee Hinny! honestly, as i'm not really interested in HP ships, even though i've always shipped Hinny, it took me a while to really start paying attention to them. it's actually Tumblr that encouraged my interest in Hinny because of all the lovely posts i've seen.

to people who say "Hinny came out of nowhere" -- alright, the returned feelings from harry's end may have seemed sudden, but a lot of people insist that they had no relationship at all-- which is a big lie. after all the drama in 2nd year, their relationship clearly began to build from 5th year-- probably 4th year, even, since Harry stayed over that summer (but maybe not so much-- i get the impression that Ginny was still a bit shy around him then). they were clearly progressively growing closer as the years passed- the summer at Grimmauld Place, the fight at the Ministry, the summer at the Burrow in '96, --and when you consider these, Harry's feelings for her did not "come out of nowhere". the whole being-possessed-by-Voldemort conversation really throws light on the unique connection Harry and Ginny had, shared trauma which no one else could understand-- which neither had realised before.

i love Ginny's character. i believe it's a perfect match for Harry-- if you remember, in fifth year, when he was being all moody and snapping at everyone trying to speak to him, Ginny was talking back to him with no hesitation.

'They do, do they?' said Harry, glaring at Ron and Ginny. Ron looked down at his feet but Ginny seemed quite unabashed. 'Well, you have!' she said. 'And you won't look at any of us!'

yes, Hermione had been taking the lead in this particular situation, considering she'd been the one to drag Harry out of Buckbeak/Walburga's room, but throughout the book, Hermione, too, is clearly not keen on getting Harry angry and often gets nervous when he does.

He (Ron) looked helplessly at Hermione, whose face was stricken. 'Harry,' she said timidly, 'don't you see? This… this is exactly why we need you… we need to know what it's r-really like… facing him… facing V-Voldemort.'

Ginny doesn't. It's quite a remarkable development in her character actually-- once the little girl who was a stuttering, clumsy mess around Harry, Ginny now had zero hesitation when talking back to Harry. if Harry wants to argue, she doesn't stop him- she allows him to have that outlet of energy. She's incredibly brave, passionate about Quidditch, has a no-nonsense attitude, quips back cleverly if anyone tries to insult her or the people she loves-- and she cares. this mostly became a post about Ginny-- but honestly, when people attack Hinny, it's always Ginny they're focusing on, isn't it?

i. LOVE. them.

i'm not even going to start on the "ron and hermione fight too much" topic because other people on tumblr have explained it better than i ever could.

and as for ron "always being mean and cruel" to her... did ron haters even read the same books as we did...? people like to use the "jkr wrote romione as wish fulfillment" excuse. yes, she DID say that, but the reason why it's such a stupid excuse is that regardless of what she said- the way she finally wrote them, the dynamic she gave them and the interactions and reactions they have to each other just scream that they're in love. it doesn't matter now what jo wanted to do, because she ultimately made them an amazing couple and that, unfortunately for romione haters out there, is canon <3

personally, it's difficult for me to get super invested in harry potter ships because i basically associate harry potter with my childhood (i was seven or eight when i first read the books) so it just feels weird somehow to get invested in romance in hp, because i'm way more interested in the plot and elements of the wizarding world. so the fact that i AM invested in them just shows how much i love them!!

Hi. I just found your blog. One I like that I think was underrated was Fred on a heated rant, and George replies with, "Ear, ear," and then Fred's reaction.

On another note, Fred's response to "Saintlike" I read differently than the movie portrayed. For me, Fred said that line incredulously, not comforting. I'm just curious how you read that part?

We could go on speculating about how the afterlife works in harry potter, but unfortunately, that remains a mystery. So let's talk about ghosts!

More specifically-- the objects that exist in the ghost world, from a few weird things mentioned in the books.

How exactly do you get paper in the ghost world? Or objects that aren't your clothes?

Now, it's clear that all wizards and witches that become ghosts remain in the clothing they wore at the time of their death- so the clothing adopts that ghost-like, transparent existence too. But other objects?

What if a wizard had a piece of paper in his pocket when he died? He comes back a ghost, the clothes come back to cover him, does that paper also come back?

What if they have a wand with them when they die? Does the wand pass over to the spirit world? Can ghosts perform magic?

The Bloody Baron wears chains as a symbol of repentance. Where did the chains come from? Do they appear automatically if you're a ghost who's repenting?

Now even more confusing- animals.

Through the dungeon wall burst a dozen ghost horses, each ridden by a headless horseman.

Ghost... horses?

Wasn't it only wizards and witches that come back as ghosts? Are the horses wizards too?? What?? (I'm imagining this really werd narrative rn where a whole bunch of wizards got turned into horses and somehow died-- and came back as horses...?)

At the front of the pack was a large ghost who held his bearded head under his arm, from which position he was blowing the horn.

Where did bro get a ghost horn from???? How does this even happen???
