Ā  Ā he doesnā€™t know how to shut up. itā€™s probably one of his best traits because all the rest are shit and doesnā€™t add up to how many times his tongue has gotten him out of stupid situations. however, being tied up with another man who had been just as moronically smartassing the guards had been quite the show, even if his vision was blurry with blood and the blows heā€™d taken were beginning to take a toll on his body. murphy decides that the man is negan --- the feared savior leader and blah blah who really gave a flying fuck? everyone was feared or killed at some point in this world. speckled gaze lifts heavily, a grimace smearing on his face when they both make eye contact and the savior begins to part his lips. murphy expects him to say something harsh or degrading, but when the question comes, all the half zombie can do is shrug. oh, they want his blood. been taking it for quite some time now and praying for a miracle, unaware that in due time, theyā€™d be right under murphyā€™s control. some of them anyway, given heā€™s too weak to mind control too many at once.Ā ā› probably thought iā€™d make a great pillow pet or some shit. the zompocalypse brings out the looney toons, havenā€™t you heard?āœ

abjectā€‹:
company had at one time beenĀ  Ā requiredĀ  Ā if eric truly wanted to have a pleasant evening. a natural chatterbox through and through, even if he wasnā€™t talking some poor soulā€™s ear off or intently listening in return, just having another body in the room would appear to brighten his mood. sharing space in silence enough to soothe his nervesĀ  Ā Ā  Ā  Ā Ā Ā  Ā even so, as times had changed eric followed suit, not only learning to enjoy his own company but coming to prefer it over spending time with others. save for the days when his daughter was homeĀ  Ā ( andĀ thanks to 50/50 custody + swiftly approaching adolescence those days were becoming a rarityĀ  )Ā  Ā the raleigh household would be found still and quiet, a solitary man entertaining himself with nonsense. new residents seldom caught his eye, and invitations certainly werenā€™t brandished without thought as they were in the past, but there were some folks that were moreĀ  Ā noticeableĀ  Ā than others. maybe it was a blessing, maybe a curse ;Ā  Ā either way, it meant free dinner without having to put any work in.
too sweet and not nearly strong enough, eric grimaced as he sipped at cloudy cider, brows coming to a peak as theĀ  Ā not-quite-a-strangerĀ Ā  spoke.Ā  Ā ā iā€™m not a perfectionist when it comes toĀ  Ā anything, āžĀ  Ā he said, the smallest of smiles threatening to appear.Ā  Ā ā people always assume that about me and i honestly haveĀ  Ā noĀ  Ā idea where it comes from. iā€™m a disaster in every aspect of life, expecting perfection would only lead to disappointmentĀ  Ā Ā  Ā  Ā Ā Ā  Ā gotta ask though, howā€™d you make it this far in life whileĀ  Ā stillĀ  Ā managing to be a shitty cook?Ā  āž
Ā  Ā  a worn smile spreads across his face as he rambles about the kitchen, seemingly knowing where all the essentials were placed and the ingredientsĀ stashed for a simple pasta that his mother used to make. perhaps he liked this feeling of normalcy that didnā€™t just radiate from the zompocalypse, but from the years he spent in federal prison and confined. were it not for doctor merch, murphy would say the zombies were his source of freedom and granted him a second chance to do right --- until he lost it all. a bowl is taken down from the cabinet and placed on the counter top as he listens to the other speak about not being a perfectionist and a disaster instead.Ā ā› i assume everyone is a perfectionist because i am the worldā€™s biggest fuck up and disappointment. somewhere, somehow, i just mess everything up and it all goes to hell around me.āœĀ  from the start, his life was rough and toppling over like a house of cards. and when the world ended and he died, the world became a steady color of blue. there was tears and anger, a hunger that never ends. meeting the people at alexandria scares him and getting close is petrifying, because one day they too, will die and heā€™ll lose all he gains.
Ā  Ā Ā  ā› i didnā€™t cook for long when the rest of my group learned how horrible i was at barbecuingĀ crickets in a hubcap. eventually, i was in charge of catching them. āœĀ  he idly stirs the sauce, adding a few chopped onions to the mix and only now does he look up to eric and offer a snort in amusement.Ā  ā› but iā€™m not completely useless in the kitchen as you can see. i know how to make some italian dishes out of scraps and itā€™s damn well better than insects. āœ

ā›Ā  Ā  itā€™sĀ  Ā  Ā  alsoĀ  Ā  Ā  not polite to come to somebodyā€™s house without even meeting them first,Ā  Ā āœĀ  Ā the little blonde countered, head cocking to one side as a bratty smile spread across once angelic features. gracie was known throughout alexandria as beingĀ  Ā the sweetest little angelĀ  Ā to have ever blessed their streets, but what most of the adults didnā€™t know was that baby grace had aĀ  Ā bossierĀ  Ā side saved only for her group of friends. it made things easier when it came to deciding which games to play, as they all knew who to look to for the answer, but it also meant that when something important was happening, gracie would be the one pushed front and center, tasked with doing whatever it was that needed to be done.Ā
glancing over her shoulder grace softly gestured to a small group of children trying their best to lookĀ  Ā naturalĀ ;Ā  Ā two boys kicked a ball from opposite ends of a yard, a few kids played a slow game of tag, and one little girl may have been tryingĀ  Ā a little too hardĀ  Ā as she pushed an empty swing.Ā  Ā ā›Ā  Ā  we have some questions.Ā  Ā number one, whatā€™s your name, and number two, where did you come from ā€¦Ā  Ā āœĀ
Ā  Ā  humanity was not on his good side, but ever since his daughter, lucy, was born into the cruel world, he had a soft spot for children. and this one was devious no matter how much she tried to cover it up behind a sweet smile and batting lashes. murphy notes her entourage failing to look casual and natural as if the conversation wasnā€™t being eavesdroppedĀ on.Ā ā› touche.āœĀ  sheā€™s witty and so far, the half zombie seems pleased with where the conversation is going and how it may end with him blackmailed or something unexpected.
Ā  Ā  finally, the other children are acknowledged and murphy spares them a curious glance before raising a brow in the young girlā€™s direction as if to ask what exactly their purpose was. oh.. he doesnā€™t expect her to be this blunt with her question asking and he finds himself confused on where to start. he could lie, but sheā€™s probably not going to fall for some kingdom come story. who would?Ā  ā› murphy, āœĀ  he breathes out cautiously, pausing to gaugeĀ her reaction and make sure his name was satisfactory before he continues.Ā  ā› and i came from spokane, washington. but before that, i traveled with some people from new york to california...which sounds unlikely, i know. āœ

Ā  Ā the apocalypse has been both terrifying and freeing. heā€™d lost everything heā€™d ever known, the crushing weight of losing his sister always lingering over his head, but there was an undeniable freedom to his new shot at life. sure, heā€™d be constantly hiding and fighting for his life, but heā€™d always done that. now he just got to do it free of his father. there was just as much danger, really. same odds of dying if he did anything wrong, but it still felt better somehow. heā€™d held up in a bakery, alone and (though he wouldnā€™t admit as much) afraid. as soon as heā€™d heard the noise of something getting inside heā€™d been ready with gun drawn, soon finding himself face to face with the other. hesitation lingers, confusion evident. heā€™d never met a survivor that had such a calm unfazed demeanor at a gun waved in their face. gun lowers slightly, teenage stupidity thinking that means he can maybe be trusted, but heā€™s not stupid enough to just drop it. ā› the fuck makes you think thereā€™re still twinkies here? āœ
Ā  Ā  his lips curl pleasantly at the corners, mixed colored gaze never once straying from the boyā€™s own as he flicks a pointer finger beyond his shoulder.Ā ā› not to brag, kid, but this place? itā€™s been mine for a looooong damn time. and i know exactly where my people stash supplies and food.āœĀ  now murphy looks away towards the door that leads toward the employees only room, grin spread even wider when he notices the door is still padlocked shut. while heā€™s aware of a gun in his face, heā€™s also aware of the zombies outside the glass doors are growling and throwing a hissy fit due to the current situation.Ā  ā› come on, are you going to shoot me in the face or let me open the door? iā€™ll even let you get a twinkie or two which is the nicest thing i can offer to a possibly starving human like yourself. āœ

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  THERE WAS THAT SAME MYSTERIOUS MANĀ  Ā  ā€¦Ā  Ā the last encounter they had was days before and why he got so personal , confessing his family issues , was surprising . like she , they were among others of the new crowd . wasnā€™t exactly comforting but overtime theyā€™d manage . she wasnā€™t always the social type unless wanting to nose around or be the one receiving attention but she was bored and there was nothing else going on .

Ā  Ā  this placeĀ had its odds and ends, new faces with the same personality attached to them. murphy liked to say he was people was into people watching because you can learn anything about a person when they werenā€™t aware they were being watched --- nothing changed. they still cling to hope that the world would change and get better. it was infectious hope they all had. and he told no one about his cravings returning nor his eye color becoming honeycombed all over again. it was better when people believed he was no longer immune to the zombies and a walking cure, despite the red still clinging to some of his skin. people stared but didnā€™t ask.
Ā  Ā  the movement of someone approaching doesnā€™t halt murphy from his current task of shell separating even as his gaze cuts over, sharp and unwelcoming as usual since he was in no mood for questioning about who knows what. thankfully, its a somewhat familiar face and the older man hums in response to her question about him needing help.Ā ā› thanks, i was tired of getting shells stuck under my damn nails. itā€™s a pain to pick out and the blood just makes a mess.āœ

Ā  Ā  the apocalypse doesnā€™t show favoritism and it doesnā€™t hold hands. some people grant mercy while some kill because half the worldā€™s gone mad and mercy is a thing of the past. the people who came to murphytown seeked the cure, a new promise of salvation and reason to live without being afraid of the zombies and other survivors. and then thereā€™s the people, like this newcomer, who has no idea whatā€™s happening around her. murphy thinks that this is off to a good start, especially since he doesnā€™t know her story or where she fits in at his sanctuary.Ā ā› i hope the food was good for you. weā€™re low on a few things but i will have my blends see to getting more.āœ

Ā  Ā  when he allowed her into murphytown, the last thing he was expecting was the rather weird way she took to his blends. yeah, yeah, murphy is aware that not many humans knew they were half mindless zombies that he could control with his mind -- save that for another story when the world gets a bit more bleaker. either she had noticed they were still mostly human, noticed the bitemarks on their cheeks, or simply rather not say anything that would ruin safety and shelter because her stance in his office is off. did she have questions? was it about the blends or rather, why murphy was such an odd man to begin with? heā€™d rather not know which but she was bound to say something sooner or later.Ā ā› what do you want?āœ

Ā  Ā sheā€™s staring at him but not in the way that would make murphy retort something rude about it like heā€™d have done if it was 10k or some other child. he knows what sheā€™s staring at, no doubt the white hair and stubble stands out a lot more than the blue patch of skin covering one side of his face. who would think heā€™s the damn savior of the human race? when she comes closer, murphy scoots over out of habit and eyes her cautiously, noting the rather innocence still lingering in her gaze.Ā ā› itā€™s not polite to stare, kid.āœĀ  thereā€™s an edge to his tone yet without malice. perhaps she was sent over to see how well the odd newcomer would react towards children or perhaps she was just bold and brave to come introduce herself.

Ā  Ā  thereā€™s a niceness within the walls of alexandria that murphy canā€™t really place as a familiar feeling. even after all his antics at murphytown and the bullshit zona spat out with their lies and false smiles, he canā€™t seem to tell if the people behind these walls are genuinely happy and trying to restart their lives or just faking it till they make it. a close eye is always kept on the townies because murphy knows full well that there could be survivors that know who and what he is, ready to blabber it out at any moment. however, itā€™s been three weeks and eric is the only one who has been kind enough to invite him over for dinner -- well, this is not the first invitation but the first time the older man agreed to joining him.Ā ā› i hope youā€™re not a perfectionist when it comes to cooking because i am a horrible chef.āœ
