I'm not here for you, is the implication, especially since now Barty is 99% sure whatever they had going on was a secret. Which was Eric's own business, but also might have been nice to have a heads up about so that he didn't accidentally inspire this sort of panic.

"I have a bit of time before the meeting so I thought I'd drop by and say hi, but if you're busy I can go." There, a nice easy out for Eric - and then they'd never have to speak of this again.

a  soft  laugh  emits  from  aaron’s  lips  because  of  eric’s  soft  statement.  he  couldn’t  blame  him  for  being  so  tired.  they  had  been  out  for  hours  in  the  blistering  sun  searching  for  useful  supplies  that  could  aid  them  in  their  battle  against  the  saviors;  namely  bullets  or  weapons  of  any  kind.  aaron  glanced  over  at  eric  who  traveled  beside  him,  nudging  him  slightly  with  his  hip  and  wearing  a  small  smile,   ❛   come  on,  the  sun  is  out  and  there’s  a  cool  breeze,  no  dead  things  in  sight.  what  a  nice  day,  don’t  you  think?   ❜   he  teased  him,  chuckling  once  more.  he  averted  his  gaze  back  to  the  path  they  were  taking,  the  trees  enveloping  them  as  they  trudged  through  the  mud.  he  could  only  hope  there  were  no  walkers  that  hid  inside  the  shadows  of  nature,  quiet  as  a  mouse.  he  was  just  hoping  for  a  peaceful,  quiet  journey  he  could  share  with  his  loved  one   —   as  it  lasted.  he  feared  the  outcome  of  this  battle  against  negan  and  his  comrades.  he  feared  he  was  going  to  lose  eric,  and  he  wasn’t  sure  inside  if  he’d  be  able  to  bear  it.  eric  was  the  one  good  thing  he  had  in  his  life,  and  he  refused  to  give  that  up.  he’d  fight  by  his  side  even  if  it  meant  his  own  demise   —   he  was  worth  that  much.  both  his  hands  grip  the  straps  of  his  back-pack,   ❛   you  know,  if  you’re  really  tired,  we  could  always  go  back.  it’s  only  about  five  miles  back.  we  have  a  long  couple  days  ahead  of  us   ❜   he  told  him,  watching  their  feet  as  they  left  footprints  in  the  mud.

a neatly folded piece of clothing settles gently in his hands. giving eric a curious glance and gripping it by the top seams, daryl lets it unfold so that he can take a good look at it. it's a shirt: a nearly-black dark maroon button down with long sleeves. it feels like cotton— breathable and comfortable, great to wear under his vest.

i thought of you when i saw this, @abject says, earning a surprised but soft look from daryl. a genuine smile reveals his teeth.

‘ no way, ’ he chuckles, folding the shirt up and clapping an affectionate hand on eric's shoulder for a moment. ‘ thanks— this is awesome. ’
