Some thoughts on Gundam SEED

Been rewatching SEED and noticing stuff. A subtle characterization of Kira's real father Ulen Hibiki that I really liked is that when he sought to create the perfect coordinator, in his eyes the ideal face for such a being was that of his wife. That's true mad scientist love.

This makes their argument in that scene and the follow up more tragic. Via asks "why are you doing this, for your sake?" but based on how Kira looks it's clear he's still deeply in love with her and that love combined with his scientific ambitions created Kira.

It's very similar to the Kebab sauce scene with Cagalli and Cmdr.Waltfeld arguing over which sauce Kira should put on his food. People who think they know what's best for others often end up inadvertently hurting them.

This idea is a recurring one in SEED, and in Destiny and Freedom it ends up becoming a more central idea.
