Hey, you know that one character? The one played by the tall, long-haired actor? The one who was pre-law in 2005, and well on his way to going to law school and getting a degree until an unexpected family issue reared its head, and he dropped out and chose a different career path? Y’know, he’s got that complicated relationship with his father, a parent-child relationship with his only sibling, and has some strange, destructive abilities that tie in with multiple traumatic experiences with fire?

Will’s Eyes

In a recent Netflix special featuring Noah Schnapp, the casting director mentioned his expressive eyes.

“Noah is very soulful. He has beautiful eyes that show a lot of emotion, and they show joy and mischief as much as they show pain and isolation.”

In season 2, they made an effort to show Will slowly succumbing to the Mind Flayer by changing the color of his eyes. Did you notice?

It was a very purposeful effort to show this throughout season 2. If there is aclose up on Will’s eyes, that’s what they want you to see.

As you may or may not know, I subscribe to the theory that the Byers have powers, specifically Will. Not the kind of powers El and Kali have, after all, the Byers were not subject to experiments tailored to bring such powers to the surface and increase them exponentially. 

My theory about Will’s powers is that he can ‘see’ things not of this realm. He was able to ‘see’ into the Upside Down (albeit unwillingly) and that power seemed completely unrelated to the Mind Flayer. I mean, the Mind Flayer too advantage of it and stalked Will from the Upside Down, waiting for the next episode where he would phase over, but I don’t believe it was the Mind Flayer himself pulling Will into the Upside Down. I think Will did it by accident. Who knows what else he can ‘see’ if he tries. 

Maybe in future season, the focus on Will’s eyes will mean something too, other than Noah has very pretty hazel eyes.
