I’ve got a lot of strong (derogatory) opinions on many canon Star Trek pairings, especially the ones that inevitably appear during the last season of each show for no clear reason. So:

Hey hello hi! I made a video game

Actually I did all the art for a video game. Specifically this video game, One-Thousand Cuts, a pixel-art samurai hack-and-slash with brutal one hit kill combat, super in-depth story and world building, and even pettable cats - and it’s on Kickstarter right now!!!

Why haven’t I mentioned this before, you ask? Well. I’m shy. Also I usually try to stay relatively anonymous on this website bc that’s kind of a selling point for tumblr imo, but I’ve been working in this project for about, well, two full years or so, and now that we’re fundraising I really really want to share it!

Along with helping us make the game game (which has a free Steam demo available you can play this very second, by the way) supporting our campaign can get you some super cool rewards such as:

- t-shirts!

- a copy of the OST!

- a digital and/or physical artbook (packed with concept art, first drafts, and progress timelines)

- and (my personal favorite): adding your pet to the game!!!

We’re just over halfway to our base goal on KS, BUT we’ve got more than a dozen stretch goals that we’d really really love to reach! Some extra goals include alternate gameplay modes, language localizations, and console ports, PLUS entirely new area expansions that could up to DOUBLE the current projected length of the game.

We just started our campaign and things are going well so far, but we’re most likely to succeed if we reach our main goal in the next few days, and then use the rest of the campaign to advocate for stretch goals.

I know money is tight for a lot of people (myself included) and I fully understand if you can’t support our campaign yourself, but just reblogging and sharing this post (and the more official ones on Instagram, TikTok and Xwitter) would honestly mean the world to me (and the rest of the team).

The fantasy subgenre poll a couple weeks ago went well so I was curious what everyone thinks about scifi subgenres!

Once again, no “OP, you forgot” category because I’m well aware there are many more subgenres (and sub-subgenres) people love, but I think the majority can fall somewhere within the parameters above. If I did miss a major one, tho, please tell me in the tags!

Interpret this as you will - you can pick the genre which you think has the best overall body of work, the one with your very favorite work, the one that has the most potential… whatever feels right :)

Welcome to One-Thousand Cuts!

Do you enjoy challenging retro-style video games? How about political intrigue and bloody inter-generational conflict? Or maybe you're into complex moral quandaries that leave you struggling to tell the difference between 'right' and 'wrong' ? If any of this interests you, we've got great news!

One-Thousand Cuts is a pixel-art side-scroller about a young samurai torn between loyalty and honor. In a dark fantasy world heavily inspired by Japanese history and folklore, this game has a strong design emphasis on simple-yet-satisfying combat, deeply consequential choices, and lore-rich storytelling.

We started developing concept art for this game in the early days of 2020, and starting late last year, we moved into full-time production! Our team is very small--just our lead pixel artist, two dedicated coders, and a begrudging social media manager (who honestly doesn't know much about this whole "tumblr" thing, but is doing her best).

We're planning to host our Kickstarter for One-Thousand Cuts in April 2024 (that's next month!!) so we're trying to get the word out everywhere we can! If you'd like to support some aspiring indie game developers, check out the free Demo of our game, now available on Steam! I didn't include omelettes/fritatas etc because those include too many potential additions. We're talking about some plain ol' eggs with salt, pepper, at most a little cheese--only minimal extras. I also put boiled and baked eggs in the same category because the end result is very similar. And also because I ran out of room. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
