Hi! I was just wondering if we're ever going to get the ability to use custom images for pilot portraits in Lancer Tactics. I'd really like to be able to make my actual Lancer character in tactics and use their art. I'm really impressed with the progress though!
Eventually — mod support didn't make the cut for the Kickstarter work, but custom pilot graphics is near the top of the list for when we do start enabling custom assets post-KS. I'd like to setup a way to import custom mech tokens as well, seeing how much player mech pixel talent there is in the Retrograde Minis world.

Aw thanks! We're doing our best. I'm very grateful that we're able to work in the Lancer universe. Big props to Massif for their third party license that made it possible.

SSC + HORUS frames done!
Lancer Tactics v0.3.3 is live — we've finished off implementation for all SSC and HORUS mechs. Almost there!
Also ft. a second blog post that I broke off of the update bc it ended up being longer and more technical than I expected. Titled BRING YOUR BALOR TO WORK DAY; my lab notes as I implement the Balor frame traits.

Hi! I've been quietly following development on Lancer Tactics for a while (it's honestly one of the things that got me to start learning Godot) and I was curious, will Lancer Tactics eventually have modding support/the ability to implement custom content? Not like some fancy editor or in-engine design tool or anything crazy like that, just code that's accessible to and compatible with modding. I ask since custom/third party material is a pretty big part of the Lancer community. idk how intense that would be to implement, so I'd love to hear your take either way (if for no other reason than learning)!
Mod support is high on the post-Kickstarter wishlist; I agree that it'd be a great fit for the homebrew Lancer community. But since I've never shipped a full project in Godot, I don't know the technical constraints we might run into for them in this engine and didn't want to promise something I'm not 100% sure we can do.
Having done a little more research now, my understanding is that to truly enable full modding for a Godot project you might have to release the entire project's source code? And since I don't know what sort of publisher situation we'll be in once we finish up the Kickstarter build and turn towards Steam, I don't know if that will be an option business-wise.
Limited mods like additional portrait maker assets // mech tokens are pretty much a sure thing, but until I get to interview someone who's already gone through the setting-up-modding-for-a-Godot-game process, I can't say much more than that.

Lancer Tactics' next build is going to have some big improvements to the map editor, incl:
a "palette" picker for blocks/setpieces/doodads
eyedropper tool
hold shift to draw lines (pictured)
see preview of ramps before placing them
can mark tiles as off-limits (for interiors/hallways)
