honestly something that loses me with it 2017 and it 2019 is how the losers club are depicted as normal kids/adults reacting to it. the whole point of the book is that they are not normal. they are seven insane little weirdos who can nearly read each other’s minds and are tied together in a fucked up web of fate and love. they were brought together by a force bigger than them so much so that they seemed real to each other in a way other kids didn’t, and when they came back to derry and realized what was going on they knew it was something they had to complete. they all kept this promise from when they were ten years old because they knew they had to be the ones to do it. they are not normal people in extraordinary circumstances they are the extraordinary circumstances created to stop it. when ben is walking around derry and has an encounter with pennywise he thinks:

and as much as the vote feels like a joke to ben, it still aligns with their fated fight with it. they have a love for each other as strong as the fate that brought them together. that’s insane. that’s beautiful. even when they forget each other for nearly thirty years they all make the choice to stay and help mike. when they can’t remember anything they have their love for each other. because nothing lasts forever, except maybe for love and desire and friendship

I think ppl need to stop dismissing films like “crazy rich asians” and “to all the boys I loved before” as “cool for representation but just rom com fluff.”

Because like damn guys, sometimes I just don’t wanna deal with super deep narratives about identity and misogyny. Sometimes I just can’t handle the secondary trauma of movies like the joy luck club and maos last dancer. Sometimes I just need to escape into a happy place of light humor and hot people. And sometimes I want that happy place to show ppl who look like me.

Don’t knock escapism representation y’all.

They are absolutely ride or die for each other and having that be intact after 27 years apart is part of the magic of their bond. It’s extremely important.

Also screw the “if we don’t fight It now, we all die anyways” crap. They fight It cause it’s the right thing to do. These two changes go a long way towards making all of the movie!Losers seem like self-centered assholes. Like I have my issues with Chapter 1 as an adaptation, but Chapter 2 is a freaking disaster area.

Mike in Chapter 2 having to """"""trick"""""" the Losers into performing the Ritual of Chud, as though this would ever happen. As though the Losers wouldn't stick by each other (especially Mike) instantly, no questions asked.

It's like Chapter 2 forgot the essence of what makes the Losers, the Losers. They are all ride or die for each other.
