Ajax being jealous of Swan is a headcannon I hold very close to my chest

she'd never tell anyone, ever, she'd rather die than let it show. But Swan is everything she is but Swan is better. Everything she does is more tolerable, more likable, and their actions are almost always the similar but Swan is praised while Ajax gets yelled at. So Ajax is jealous, because why does Swan get to be so perfect when she's the exact same? What's wrong with her?

She takes it out on Swan despite the fact that she can see exactly why and her own feelings for Swan prove it buuut that's my personal interpretation of why Ajax has a little mostly one-sided rivalry with her

my interpretation of the dynamic between Ajax and Swan has always been that it's filled with intricacies

Swan has a lot of Ajaxes negative traits (impulsiveness, hot-headedness, determination to a fault, ego, and lacking social awareness) but they aren't interpreted as negative when Swan has them (they suddenly become gut instinct, fierceness, keen ambition, well earned pride, and stoicism)

They are each others parallels and they see themselves in the other. While others don't always pick up on how alike they are, they both know it. Which is why there's a rivalry, they pick apart the pieces of themselves they don't like projected onto the other. I think this is also why they work well as a ship.

They know each other inside and out, they don't like the traits they recognize, but can slowly come to recognize traits about themselves they do like through each other. Knowing someone as well as you know yourself is something that is incredibly intimate. When Swan looks at Ajax, she knows what she's thinking, and when Ajax looks at Swan, she can tell the same.

There are differences for sure, but things that they feel are inherent to them, their core? They find it mirrored through the other. Anyways, they're very in love but would never say it and in my mind I've decided their ship name is warchiefs
