now, about "apesar de você", i physically can't put this song here without explaining the context 'cause i think it's a really interesting topic! even though the rhythm is upbeat and happy, the lyrics are a criticism of the military regime, symbolizing the resistance to the conservative discourse and the oppression brazilian society was under back in ‘64 with the military dictatorship and to overcome the previous censorship, Chico wrote lyrics longer than the content he intended to record, implying that it was a love story instead of a protest. he also used a false name, the pseudonym "Julinho da Adelaide" because his name was heavily targeted by censors! when this song came up on shuffle, i almost screamed because, as a brazilian, i’m very proud of it!
