Savage Indeed (Forks, May 2020)
It was quite a challenge to find a place while the sale of our home finalized. We happened upon hipcamp.com and decided to go with a place called Savage Streams down in Forks, WA/which was being runned by a private landowner named Dylan. I wanted a camping-like experience and this place looked promising. Our friends wanted to join as well for a few days and we thought it would be great to stop and check out the scene for Twilight. Lol.
When we finally arrived it was really late, dark and wet. G was a bit grumpy and tired (hangry as well). The host was so patient and worked with us. Because of fear of the wet ground we were to worried about pulling all the way in. So we just stayed right on the drive way and grass. Our pants were soaked trying to balance the trailer and get set up. It was an odd night as I cooked in the trailer and G took a moment to just rest his body and mind.
The next day the sun was out and the light gave us more insight of our surroundings. As we parked into our spot and assessed the area it was scene of old broken down trucks, long gone trailers, torn trampoline, broken down shops/barns, and quite a big dig up hole. HOWEVER, behind or maybe before there was this beautiful sound of the extremely close creek and this glorious line of trees. In our spot was a nice fire pit, cool swings, picnic table, orange tulips, and the view of this lovely flowing river. It was like whaaaa....
When we settled down more and just started to sit and soak it all in...and we began to feel this sense of calm and yet intrigue. Savage streams had this absolute charm but it takes awhile to see it beyond the “vintage-trashy” side which began to seem almost genius. This place had all this awaiting potential.
Since we where there for 7 days we took our time relaxing before our friends arrived. We did see a few campers trail in and it was cool to see Dylan bringing in business. We decided to explore the grounds and the woods along the creek. We saw a gun just propped against a tree. Was it a prop? We laughed and hoped so. Tho later we learned that it was real and the host forgot he left it there!!! We did also find this glorious long wooden swing. It was rather scary since it didn’t seem sturdy and also thrilling. The pools in the creek were just wonderful and the rocks cascading unto a mini fall was breathtaking. This place was just a hidden little gem and I can’t wait to see how it changes and morphs.
When our friends joined us we had a glorious time around the fire laughing, drinking some beers, catching up, and just appreciating just time together as friends. They were glad to get an escape from being in lock down and social distancing. We chuckled about the odd barn bathroom situation where you had to pour the water from a bucket to flush.

Jimbos by the Sea (Westport, WA, April, 2020)
Seeking a place for hookups can be a challenge with today’s times and the pandemic. Everything is shut down. We found a nice spot in Westport, WA. Jim has been remodeling a beach home and was offering his driveway. He had a few RV residents who overlooked the spot. You could hear the sounds of the ocean. We strolled and looked at it from afar it was very windy. So beautiful tho with dark blue colors mixed with gray. Some Airbnb folks were twerking by a bonfire, getting their party on trying to forget about COVID-19. The sounds of waves and the smell of the sea was soothing and unreal. One of the residents named Gordon was a sweet man. He had a fiesty little chubby yorkie. Super cute. He helped us when needed.
We enjoyed our time, chilling with some cheap ass spiked ice teas in front of a makeshift fire pit with brick. At night we lit up our blue LED lights. It looked like aliens had taken over the RV. We talked about how this is what it would be like. Finding unique places and working around any barriers. RV on folks and safe travels.

Prince Ankush (Junction City, Oregon, April 2020)
In an effort to find hookups for a warm shower, we meandered over to a beautiful compound in the woods. Our hosts Amy and Ankush had this amazing property with a large black gate with a lions head, two large homes, ponds, waterfalls, and an unused greenhouse. It was quite a feat getting our rig backed into the lot with the hookups. At times we just had to laugh since it was so insane.
As we sat in our camping chairs, the neighbors ran their buggies and dirt bikes around their property. The renters of the first house children came by to say hi and looked at our barking chihuahuas. They were so sweet coming to welcome us. To the left someone was shooting guns! It about scared the living daylights out of me. What a place! Ankush was driving his golf cart, spraying chemicals along his long driveway. We watched with amusement and marveled at the surrounding area of gorgeous trees and grassy areas with white little flowers. The driveway was lined with towering lights and a little shack was nestled in the foreground. The greenery had taken over it almost making it camouflaged.
In the morning I took the dogs out and a deer came out of the woods. It’s ears were perked and it looked at us with alarm. It was so magical making eye contact with him. Gianni later roamed around and spotted lion statues and a large waterfall in front of Ankush’s home. He was so impressed!
It was an odd experience with our trailer slightly tilted back. I thought we would roll back at any moment. Taking a shower was a bit wonky. We learned quickly how much grey water can build up. It was hard to dump the sewage and we had an amatuer hour with our “crap” spilling out on the pavement, but we managed to stop it and cleaned up their area well.
Gianni had to learn quickly to maneuver the trailer and get through such a tight spot. He did so well!

Medford, Oregon (2020)
Our first experience, we boondocked on a wide open field we found on Airbnb. The minute we jumped out of the truck, we were just awestruck. The view was breathtaking, farmlands, forested hills, trails, and a winding river. No one right next to us like what we saw at common RV resorts and parks. It was windy as heck but the weather was still in the 70’s. We saw Eagles and a variety of wild birds. We could hear howling coyotes at night and lovely bird sounds during the day.
Since we are newbies we had to practice balancing our trailer, seeing how all the controls work, what works without hookups and seeing what other supplies we needed. We realized that we needed to fill our tank with water though some things were working like the toilet. It was all a mystery and how can we learn it unless we live it.
We were tickled pink by our led lights indoors and out. We blasted out our music from the outdoor speakers. And we negotiated who got what spaces in the RV. The dogs were so confused. They went from a 2200 square foot home with a huge open yard to a confined space. They liked to roam around the field but the wind gave them a bit of a chill. Icee was a bit consitpated.
I spent the days obsessing about generators and dump stations. I have never thought this much about poop more less deal with my own this intimately. Hahahaha.
At one point a guy who was mowing the area left a garden hose out by a shed behind us; and we got so excited thinking we were gonna get some water. We got a little bit until it stopped. Already we were becoming water thieves!
Where do we get water? Where do we dump our sewage? With the Covid-19 scare all RV resorts and camping sites are closed. We will have to resort to Airbnb and Craigslist, hitting up private properties. This is gonna super interesting!!!!
On our way to our next site, we learned we could fill up with potable water and dump our grey and black water at Travel Stations like Pilot and Loves and maybe some rest stops.
G said to me that he could do this forever. I think the reality of how much work this is gonna be is realy sinking in. So far it feels very possible...
Happy Travels Friends~ G and R
