#Foraged #beautiful purple-spotted #oxalis the other day for it's delicious lemony #sour taste. This is Oxalis pes-caprae, a pretty serious #invasivespecies in #California, so don't feel bad about #foraging as much as you like for #salad, #pesto or anywhere you want a #crunchy, sour kick. Scenes from #Hiroshige's #ukiyoe #masterpiece "The 53 Stations of the #Tokaido". Please note the guy warming his buns, and the fact that this is from 1834. My uncle runs #PhoenixBooks an #amazing used #bookstore in #sanluisobispo and found this #unbelievable #treasure which he gave to my cousin for Xmas. We spent over an hour paging through the complete set of #woodblock #prints, bound into a #beautiful #accordianbook. #Incredible.

My weight for #lactofermentation #pickling is a Native American #Chumash #artifact, a stone ground to be almost totally spherical --- used as a children's toy. I it found as a little girl while walking in the San Luis Obispo mountains with my grandfather. My uncle had written a book on the Chumash and identified it.
