Monster prom pride month: day 30!

So, regarding the finale, anyone who knows me and sees who’s missing from the challenge, almost as if I… intentionally skipped some characters to save them for a rainy day… knew this was coming.

Oz/Cal! My favorite Monster Prom ship that deserves lots and lots of attention because it’s cute and healthy and they deserve each other and I’m in no way projecting my men-liking and robotfucking onto Oz no

Oz’s sexuality pride stuff is also totally based on myself, no canon evidence even kind of consulted, because I said so, it’s my comfort character and I make the rules.

This was kind of a hellish challenge to tackle… for a massive pride month challenge like this, drawings that are way more detailed than I did the past few years, it was pain all the way but I’m happy to sit back and look at the little pride collection I’ve amassed. Yay pride!

Now I’m… going to not draw for weeks. Not again. I drew myself straight into the dirt.

(( In celebration, this blog finally has an icon drawn by yours truly! Yay!

I want to thank all of you who have followed thus far. This is my very specific comfort ship and my very specific portrayals of my favorite characters, so I wasn’t anticipating any more than a tiny handful of people to show interest in something like this that was purely self indulgent.

I promise if you sent in an ask, I have my eye on it, make no mistake! Drawing is just so taxing anymore but now out of school for a few months, I should have more time on my hands.

To also go over things I have planned beyond an art style revamp: stories!! Stories are what I have planned! I love writing, it’s just been so painfully difficult to overturn my writer’s block, but trust me I’m trying. If you have any story requests or suggestions I’d be delighted to try and tackle them! New ideas could really help the momentum get back. I could genuinely use them a lot, haha. I have a lot of drafts that got abandoned but I do want to write for the Monster Prom community… any feedback on your interest in seeing that is much appreciated!

There’s also the matter of pride month coming soon, and I have a plan for that too! It’s been a tradition for the past two years to have a full month of pride art featuring characters from my current fixation and this year will be no different. 2020 was Fossil Fighters, 2021 was Rhythm Heaven, and now 2022 will be Monster Prom! Ideally I’ll be making pride art daily featuring characters and my sexuality headcanons for them, hopefully ship art too!

And finally Calculester and Oz will, of course, still be here answering questions at whatever rate I can crank them out. Thank you all so much for supporting this blog! It means a ton to me to have 30+ people who enjoy this content I originally made just for my own enjoyment. Thank you to everyone for all the boosts you’ve given this blog and I hope to keep it going strong! It touches this little autistic heart of mine seeing you all like my comfort works so much. ))

“I find myself fancying birds. However, animals do make me nervous… with their far greater sentience to plants, yet their lack of any comprehensible language, I find myself often stressing and worrying over making any missteps with them, or, heaven forbid, doing them any harm. Avians are, as a whole, quite intelligent, however, and I find myself rather drawn to large bird species such as the umbrella cockatoo.”

It’s sort of strange… a-arachnophobia is one of the most common fears out there, and, I-I mean, I’m made of all the fear energy o-on earth and that makes me scared of most other things… bu-but something makes me like spiders instead of, ah, be-being scared of them. I guess every em-embodiment of fear still does have some room to be an individual, e-even if it isn’t much that I don’t even have much of a say in.

(( Sorry for all the inactivity. I’m in the middle of finals right now, but they’re just about over so hopefully my post schedule might get more frequent! I promise I still love these two and want to give them all the content in the world <3 <3

Also, I’m working on multiple fanfics, one is nearing completion! For those who are interested in my monster prom verse and the fics related to it, I might be posting one soon—though it is a heavier one talking about a lot of mental health things because comfort characters I project on go brrrrr

i watched my 3 favorite muppet movies while drawing this and listened to the soundtrack of 2 of them and that was the highlight of the experience (i cried twice lol) but then i. found out i inexplicably worked on this for 9 hours

Happy anniversary to the only dating sim ever

Though for real happy anniversary monster prom!! The game means a lot to me, it’s the first thing I really got to connect with my very first group of queer friends with. To me the series stands for all the good things that have happened since I’ve left my conservative shithole hometown and I wish it a prosperous life!

Originally the plan was to draw sketches of all of my ships for this incredibly queer euphoria inducing series and post them for today, but I ran into issues on this one alone when just this, an uncolored sketch, took several really tiring hours to get to a state I (kind of) liked, and as an art student I have a lot of other drawing projects that really need my attention like… for grade reasons.

So I’m spreading these posts over a couple days with one ship per day and my thoughts about it!

Now this one… CalOz.

I am very much like Oz in personality, so I sort of naturally shipped him with the character I fell for, but I also think he has some of the best chemistry with Cal. When you read the polaroid info for Oz’s pairings, a lot of the relationships don’t really seem like they work well for him (mentioning Liam and Damien both can stress him out and get frustrated with his general meekness, or how Miranda’s need to control him is labeled as “not healthy” or something, it’s been a while since I read those descriptions) but Cal just seems to be among the best matches for him. Sure they’re no opposites attract pair, but they’re both very nerdy goody-two-shoes types who really struggle with social skills. There’s also the fact that Cal always wants to learn from organics, and he makes for a nice pillar of comfort for Oz to express himself in a judgement-free environment, because be it his interests or just feelings, Cal wants to listen and learn from it all. So having a neurodivergent partner seems good for Cal, to me at least, because it can show him the brain doesn’t have to all think one way, and Oz is so gentle and sweet, if Cal’s ever confused about something he has no issue explaining it to him, and in turn Cal is very patient and understanding of Oz’s anxiety. They share a lot of the same issues but can also give advice to one another that they can’t take themselves, and I feel like Oz and his wide array of emotions have really taught Cal a lot about both the organic mind, yet also himself and his capabilities to feel. I think the pair empathize with each other a lot, especially from a social front when it comes to awkwardness or burnout, and speaking as someone with legit debilitating anxiety, even if self-doubts and negative thoughts will never go away having the presence of a really patient person who doesn’t mind reassuring you that you’re okay and loved is really, really valuable.

VERY long story short, they’re my top pair and as someone who resonates so deeply with Oz (and is relentlessly bullied by my friends for being a robotfucker) they’re a huge comfort ship as well.

Tomorrow will be my preferred ship with Brian! I am so sorry if this kind of infodumping isn’t what you signed up for.

The embodiment of fear can get sick?

“Hm? Yes, he naturally can. Oz may be the embodiment of fear, but he is still entirely organic and very mortal. I am inclined to believe there are ailments exclusive to him, and perhaps other embodiment monsters, but this is not one of those cases. Just a common cold. Though it is no less stressful for him…”

“I must confess, though I long to live the truly organic experience, I do not envy the concept of ‘illness’ and ‘immune systems’. It looks quite dreadfully uncomfortable. Though I suppose for all of the good to come from living an organic life, it’s something I’d be willing to manage… that being said, I do feel quite terrible for Oz at this moment. He is horribly congested and breathing is proving to be a difficult task, which in turn is working him up emotionally through the struggling. His frustrated crying is only serving to exacerbate the problem. At least the cold medicine I administered earlier seems to be taking effect and might very well put him to sleep. I’d like to see him get at least a bit of rest tonight. Insomnia is enough of a struggle for him as is.”

“Oh, no, I hardly mind at all. I do not have a particular romantic orientation that I have defined for myself, but I do recognize myself as ‘asexual’, as I believe the term is. Wait in your "Vicky made cals body" headcannon post, you said that Vicky was a lot more actively involved in releasing Zoe from her totem? I'm kinda interested in hearing that story

Well if you’re interested……..

In the “first term” (junior year for them) Vicky was definitely juggling both. She was the one who originally got her hands on the Power Totem of Z’gord and she experienced the whole Z’gord plotline, all the while trying to help Damien and Scott’s dumb asses with Calculester coming to life. It was pretty much just as it happens in the game in Vicky’s case, right down to taking the dark deity that would later become Zoe to prom. So really, Vicky was the first monster Zoe became truly close with and safe to say when Zoe was a proper student, the two were dating right away. A pretty simple story, but yeah… nerdy girl for nerdy girl couple! Even if they aren’t always nerdy for the same things. By the actual events of the second term (everyone’s senior year), while Oz was pursuing Cal, Vicky and Zoe were already dating.
