"it's okay. i don't mind sitting here with you." of course he'd never blame hawk for waking him up and getting dressed to now sit outside on the porch swing when he was still groggy. if anything manny felt it was important that he go check on hawk because that was who mattered right now, not his own well being. he was always the one to worry about others no matter what he felt.

this was no exception as he continued to run his fingers through hawk's hair that he liked playing with as it gave him a sense of calmness when he was otherwise restless and couldn't sit still. "what is it, hawk?" he asked quietly, dark eyes looking at the man with worry etched in them as his mind began to run through different scenarios that could be the answer. he found himself worrying that he had done something bad, but what could it have been? he didn't know and all he could do now was wait while hoping it wouldn't be anything bad.

Normally, he might have stayed in bed, or at least stayed inside, but he had felt like it was going to be a long night, and he hadn't wanted to wake Manny. Look at him, Hawkins Fuller, caring for another living being. There really was a first time for everything. That, and he'd felt far too restless to remain in bed, to the point that Manny's peaceful sleep behind him had started to feel more grating than relaxing. So here he was, outside on another man's front porch, smoking a cigarette at two in the goddamn morning.

"Sorry about that," he said, though his voice was somewhat distant, his words less than genuine--which wasn't to say he wasn't sorry, but only that the emotional capacity was elsewhere. Hawk always had been a man with only so much to go around. He had to say the head on his shoulder felt nice, though. Grounding. But then Manny had to go and ask what was wrong, and Hawk sighed. It wasn't his fault. He didn't deserve this. "You're not gonna like it." Let me save you from this.

he felt the finger on his chin which brought manny's attention back to hawk whom he looked at with a raised eyebrow, head tilting a little. he understood hawk's need for him to be good and he would be as he had proven already that he can behave himself in public when it came to being with hawk. sure he might have stumbled a bit in the beginning when he was still getting used to how things worked with hawk, but he was better now. he was a fast learner and he was smart enough to know what to do and what not to do.

"don't you trust your boy, hawk?" he asked, fingers brushing just a bit further down the man's chest to his stomach, teasingly running along the waistband of his pants before bringing his fingers away again. the most innocent look on his face as he spoke again. "your boy doesn't want that either because he's a very good boy. he just wants to see you at his bookstore, that's all."

Yeah, he bet he did. He was a nice boy, and it was best for him to keep his head down. It was best for him to not draw attention to himself. He could make himself friends, sure, but the last thing they needed was for him to turn heads. It was entirely selfish, of course. If anything happened to him, he could just pull away, separate himself from the young man, but the last thing he needed was something coming back to him. He didn't need to find himself on the wrong side of a blue envelope.

As for the books...maybe he would stop by. That could be nice, right? It didn't have to be a thing, could just be a little game that they played together. He would go in, take a look, might even strike up a conversation with a helpful cashier if he could behave himself. Or maybe he'd just leave it to a fantasy. Not one to get off to, but one to think about. He didn't think there would be any harm in going, though... He liked his hands on him, and he did nothing to stop them, but he did reach out, lightly, to brush a finger under his chin, getting him to look at him. "No, you won't." It wasn't so much an assertion of faith as it was his way of saying there would be no option but to behave. He wasn't going down because of him. He'd throw him under the bus if he had to, and neither of them wanted that. That done, he dropped his hand to pat his chest. "We can't have your coworkers getting jealous."
