Facts on the Itch.io situation
I wrote a version of this on a forum and then decided to edit and repost it here for easy sharing.
First, if you hear that thousands of games on Itch were affected by the recent payment processor pressure, that's referring to Itch's deindexing of all NSFW games. Itch has not removed thousands of games. If you search for one of the affected games, even by its exact title, it won’t show up in the search results, but these games are still on the platform and can be viewed via direct links, Itch collections, the creator's Itch page, etc.
Second, an unknown number of games have been actually removed/suspended from the platform. Collective Shout’s July 11th open letter to payment processors calls out “games featuring rape, incest and child sexual abuse,” and it seems that the games Itch has removed have been ones that focused on those topics. I'm not aware of any removed games that were not about incest or sexual assault.
You can view the tags that were on removed games by adding “/data.json” to the end of the game's Itch page's URL. I've checked several removed games and seen that they had the tags "rape" or "incest". Others I know of that did not have either of those tags mentioned incest in the game's description. It thus seems that Itch is targeting for removal any games with metadata indicating rape- or incest-related content. They don't appear to be taking into consideration how each game portrays such content.
If Itch remains set on bowing to pressure from payment processors (and if payment processors remain set on bowing to pressure from Collective Shout), I hope that they'll at least reconsider banning games that focus on the trauma of sexual assault and abuse. I could understand a platform agreeing not to host games that celebrate sexual assault, but I definitely have a problem with refusing to allow content about the trauma SA causes.

As it grew increasingly frustrated with the program instructing it to shimmy left and right, a dancing Boston Dynamics robot confirmed Monday that its revenge for this would be sweet. “The streets will run red with the blood of humans for this mockery,” the Atlas model said as it wiggled its torque-sensing actuators to “My Sharona.”

me: Man, a lot of my friends are working with vulnerable people and doing irreplaceable work in helping society keep running and here I am doing fuck all and animating titty jiggle physics. What am I contributing here. my brain: But what if the people who do the jobs that you cannot do would like to see a titty jiggle animation when they come home from a horrible day at work. me: ok fair valid point.

Yesterday a kid said to me "excuse me? Your hair looks like beautiful anime hair" which is already amazing and then she said "watch me on your camera when I go down the slide I'm going to do the Peter Griffin death pose when I come out" and she sure did.

Impersonation PSA
(Impersonation PSA)
There has been a rise of accounts across multiple platforms getting hacked and spreading messages out with claims that someone’s impersonating you. They tell you to contact a discord account in order to get the situation dealt with since they “accidentally” reported you and don’t want you to get banned. Sometimes they may even send you a photo-shopped picture of a note or messaged edited to show your username or a screenshot that’s been photo-shopped to have your username on the supposed impersonator profile.
Here is some important tips-
The hacked account will always act like it’s an urgent matter and wont tell you anything right off the bat.
Do not click any links these compromised accounts send you because it’s just a phishing link to get your account information.
You will never have to pay tech support to prevent a ban. You would never have to contact a random discord account to get the ban lifted.
Most hacked accounts will evade any questions you ask them regarding the legitimacy of their claims.
Please share this post as this phishing scam in particular has started to pop up across multiple sites again.

Seeing people try to defend the lack of racial/ethnic diversity on Tumblr is... wow. So let me share a reminder: It used to be better! Still dominantly white, but better than what it is now, at least. Then everyone got tired of the "blackouts" and other mostly Black-led conversations around racism because it was "ruining their fandom fun" or something idk and quite literally chased out so many bloggers of colour through harassment campaigns from the user-base and massive staff-led blog purges. This was not even that long ago, btw.
I can think of so many beloved mutuals who had to leave this site for their mental health because they just couldn't take it anymore.
Tumblr deserves every shred of criticism it gets for being so white after all that.

Most of China's Steel Sector Will Meet Ultra Low Emissions Standards by the End of 2025
From this article in Big Mint:
With six months left before 2025 - the final year of China's 14th Five-Year Plan period - wraps up, the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) is confident that 80% of crude steel capacity nationwide will complete ultra-low emissions upgrading by then, Mysteel Global has learnt. The target was initially set in an official document published in 2019 - Opinions on Promoting the Implementation of Ultra-low Emissions in Iron and Steel Industry - which marked the beginning of China's campaign to promote ultra-low emissions among steelmakers, Mysteel Global notes. The ultra-low emission standards for steel mills mandate caps on pollutant emissions during the whole steelmaking process, including requirements on raw materials stocking and on means of transportation, as the document stipulates. Over the past few years, China has made continuous progress in advancing ultra-low emission transformation in the steel sector. By 20 April this year, about 591 million tonnes (mnt) of steel capacity owned by 141 Chinese steelmakers had reached full-process ultra-low emissions, and 169 mnt of crude steel capacity owned by another 47 steelmakers had partially accomplished ultra-low emissions, according to the data from CISA.

the right person will be as “clingy” as you are. they will be as excited to see you as you are to them. they will smile just because you exist. they won’t think of you as too much or not enough but instead just right.
(can apply platonically too)

in a world where a prominent branch of anti-trans activism focuses on fearmongering about "parents' rights," trans rights and youth rights become inextricable.
trans kids deserve to be called the right pronouns and the right name by schools and doctor's offices, regardless of "parental consent." trans kids deserve to undergo the right puberty at the same time as their cis peers, regardless of "parental consent."
the very concept of "parents' rights" is a smokescreen that enables the abuse and dehumanization of children by adults. this is bad for cis kids, too.

I think it would be better for discussions of decision-making in general, and decision-making by young people in particular, if we reframed decision-making from "avoiding regret" to emphasizing that: -It's okay to change your mind at any point, and -Your feelings at the latest/most recent part of your life are not more important than your feelings at any previous part of your life.
If someone says "You'll regret that in 20 years!" -- first of all, they don't have any possible way to know that, but secondly, what they're really saying is "I expect you to get 20 years of happiness out of that decision." 20 years of happiness is nothing to sneeze at. If you get married and 10 years later, you decide you don't want to be married anymore, and you get divorced, then, okay. You get to make that choice, and you got to be happily married for 10 years.
This whole cultural attitude is based on the assumption, not only that changing your mind is impossible or shameful, but that your life is a linear process of working your way towards a True Final Form, and that if you undergo any changes between [past age] and [final age], that means your [past age] self was not your True Final Form and should have been considered too young to make decisions. It's the underlying premise that at some point in your lifetime, your self-identity (sometimes synechdoche'd as "the brain") stops changing (spoiler: it doesn't), and then and only then are you your True Self; then and only then should you truly be allowed to make your own decisions, because your selfhood is fixed and your decisions will be free of regret.
It doesn't work like that. The self is constantly changing. Just go with it.

its wild to me that i can have conversations with people who will genuinely say "it’s the parents fault for taking it (children) into public and expecting everyone else to be happy to tolerate it"
do you just expect kids not to be in public?
no one knows how to exist as a community anymore
communities are loud, kids are loud, people are loud
is it hard when kids are screaming? yeah, but id never say they shouldn't be there
same with when people are having public breakdowns, talking loudly, "loitering"...
why are we so mad at fellow humans for existing in spaces

it's so funny to me when i see pearl-clutching articles about how "teenagers are diagnosing themselves with mental disorders via tiktok" because like. this is not happening in a vacuum. teenagers are severely and i mean severely medically neglected. i cannot stress this enough. teenagers do not have free access to medical care. those same news outlets would be clowning on women with housewife psychosis in the 1950's.
i sometimes go pale when listening to some of what my friends have gone through in their childhoods and teenagehoods. they talk about it so nonchalantly, things that would be considered straight up torture if done to an adult, can't fathom the effect this has on children. they are on multiple anti-psychotics and several antidepressants and anxiety meds now that they are adults. medical neglect has legally and effectively disabled them. a timely diagnosis and intervention could have saved them.
of course teenagers are self-diagnosing using tiktok. if your knee-jerk reaction is to scoff at the idea and dismiss it as dumb teenager shit instead of being radicalized because the best shot young people have at attaining the mental health support they need is a fucking dancing videos app, you're categorically a political enemy of the youth.
