you know what? Fuck you. *turns your strong and stoic and serious character into a crying, traumatized, whimpering, curled up mess in the floor*

I see a man (fictional), I am generally like "okay". I see the same man (fictional) being put in a situation, covered in dirt and blood, perhaps soaking wet, actively sobbing and shaking like a chihuahua, and I am saying "yay" and "yippee" and things of this nature

Elementary Whump Log pt. 5 (2x1 - 3x16)
Obviously spoilers ahead, I am rather specific about timing and what happens. I also include anything I consider to be whump which includes vulnerable/emotional moments etc. All whump is Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) unless otherwise specified. Seasons 2-3 are way less whumpy than season 1, so not every episode in included obviously.
2x4
25:11 - Discusses childhood bullying
2x5
9:15 - Vulnerable moment - discusses relationships/emotions
2x7
First Scene - Sherlock describes sensory overload symptoms and addiction etc. a good vulnerable scene
2x9
21:46 - Sherlock punches a suspect in the face and breaks his finger
31:33 - Joan treats his broken hand
Rest of Episode - careful with hurt hand etc.
2x19
12:50 - punched in the arm (apparently repeatedly) for a case
2x20
5:30 - Sherlock discusses the death of a friend, visibly emotional (in a Sherlock way) vulnerable convo with Joan
19:40 - Exposed to apparent anthrax, brief hospital scene
25:52 - Emotional convo with Joan about sobriety and feelings (good angst scene) (JLM is wonderful)
2x22
36:23 - Sherlock gets tazed
3x4
0:28 - References having cut his hand, applies leeches to the wound.
3x5
22:25 - Slightly injures shoulder in arm wrestling contest with suspect
3x16
First scene/throughout - Sherlock intentionally depriving himself of sleep
14:10 - gets beat up by two men on the street + aftermath at hospital with Joan

“An interesting facet of the hurt/comfort syndrome is that it is actually anti-violent. Unlike many violent escapist stories, such as the Ian Fleming novels, these tales tend to examine the unpleasant consequences of violence in some detail. They portray violence realistically and dramatize its full consequences. In these stories, the main character is hurt purely as a deus ex machina to permit the ”comfort” portion of the story to take place. Emphasis is placed on the love lavished by the comforter on the friend/lover who’s been hurt.”
— Connie Faddis and Becca Orokin on hurt/comfort as a subgenre that takes violence seriously, To Slay or Not To Slay, Interphase #3, 1976.

When a character doesn’t realize they’ve been, like, shot or whatever and they hand brushes against their side and comes away wet with blood, and they’re just staring at it like wtf is this and then their knees just totally give out on them and they sink down, maybe gasping a little as the reality finally hits them. That’s good stuff.

Look, you should know, I went to Captain Gregson when I couldn’t find you. I had to explain some things to him. You might want to have a talk with him.

Part of recovery is addressing painful things. If you ignore them they become triggers. Could you shoot me all of this in an email? I’m much better at processing the written word.
