It's recently come to my attention that Nico Douga has begun using an automated system to flag videos for sexual content. Videos flagged this way can be appealed, but until the appeal goes through and the flag is lifted, these videos will not be available on the app or mobile versions of nico douga, and will not be available to overseas users (without the use of a VPN.)

This automatic system is flagging MMD videos, though the criteria for what gets an MMD video flagged is unknown to me. I can say that I have two old videos, both featuring YYB Miku in a bunny outfit, and only one has been flagged. Likewise, a jpn twitter mutual of mine who makes and distributes motions had only one of their videos flagged, despite using the same model in every video.

This is all to say that when clicking a distribution link, you may get an error page that looks like this:

This is because that video was probably flagged automatically. You can either use a VPN to access the video, or try again in a few days to see if an appeal has been granted and the video has been restored.

I assume this may be a running problem with nico until their flagging system gets better.

Hello! While I understand it would be too much work to backtag, could I suggest tags for the amount of dancers in a motion in the future? It would be very useful! There's a lot of solo motions, but it gets harder trying to find motions to fit a specific amount of singers

Hi! I know you followed this up with another ask saying to ignore this one because you found the tags, but I just wanted to use this opportunity to promote the dancer tags juuuust a little. (Because the Frequently Used Tags page is LONG and NEEDS TO BE UPDATED...)

Trios (3Dancers) - with 41 posts

Quartets (4Dancers) - with 19 posts

Groups of 5 (5Dancers) - with 21 posts

Groups of 6 (6Dancers) and Groups of 7 (7Dancers) - with 2 posts each

As far as I can tell, that's as high as we've gone - But really, you get more than 5 people on stage at once and it starts getting hard to fit them all on screen at the same time I guess.

Quickly adding that after more research, it DOES appear to be a response to Mastercard / Visa's campaign against their payment services being used for "Sensitive content."

In order words, the videos affected by this should mostly be videos containing sensitive content, such as violence or sexual themes. Most MMD distribution videos should remain largely unaffected for the time being if this is the case.

Nico Seiga is the biggest loss in this for MMDers, so i would unfortunately have to recommend using a VPN to access seiga if needed.

Have you heard about NicoNico (and the stuff that belongs to it like Seiga) being closed off now for everyone outside of Japan? Think that a VPN is needed now. But as not everyone's going to have access to that (most VPNs are a paid subscription from what I've seen) it's going to be difficult for the non-Japanese MMD community to get access to motions and stuff since everything that was on NicoNico (passwords in the description/video/behind like button, preview of what the (camera) motion looks like) is locked now. For example we can't like the video for the password now because non-VPN users can't view it.

Hello! I had heard about some of these changes, though I was unsure when they would be taking effect and hadn't noticed a change in my own viewing experience yet.

Some of what you've said was incorrect, so I'm going to lay out an explanation as I understand it.

Certain videos / Channels will be hidden from those determined to be viewing from overseas, as well as certain genres and thumbnails. You will not be able to view the site from your phone browser at all, and must download the app in order to use nico douga on a mobile device. (While this is not said directly, there is some emphasis on specifically videos with "sensitive content", leading me to believe they will be the majority of the videos effected. IF this is the case, then most mmd videos linked on this blog should still be accessible.)

Nico Seiga IS completely inaccessible without the use of a VPN for overseas users.

Videos unavailable on Nico Douga for overseas users will also be unavailable on NicoNico Channel and the Vocal Collection App.

However. Overseas users CAN still like and view most videos. Logged out users have never been able to like videos, so if you're having problems liking the videos to get the passwords, you either need to log into your nico douga account or make an account (which you can still make as an overseas user). For proof, I'm not currently using my VPN and I was able to access the most recently posted video and like it.

There are also VPNs available that are free, they just aren't going to be as fast as the paid services. If you're only using them for Nico, I don't think that should be a huge problem.

I do want to say that even if, at some point, Nico Douga became inaccessible to all overseas viewers without a VPN, i would not under any circumstance begin linking directly to download links or exposing passwords. I'm not trying to imply that you were suggesting this, I just want to get ahead of that in case someone does ask for it. The point of this site was to catalogue and search for motions easier, not to give out content I don't own or break rules from people who were kind enough to give out their hard work.
