This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that Iâve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.
A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said âabsolutely notâ. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!
Many people have the initial instinct of ânopeâ when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook âdifferentâ animals.
All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a âdifferentâ pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.
Donât dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat thatâs missing an eye and see what heâs all about!

Once upon a time there was a small desert village with a single well outside town. One day a young woman went to the well to fetch water, and the well heard her crying, and asked âWhatâs wrong?â
She stopped her sobbing and asked the well âYou can talk?â
âYes,â said the well. âLong ago, the witch who lives in this town gave me life so I could serve as a guardian to the townspeople.â
âAlas,â said the young woman. âI am the daughter of that witch. She lived in peace with the townsfolk for many years. But the new mayor, who is a violent and hateful man, riled the people up against her, and they burned her at the stake. I am young and still do not know very much magic. I tried to curse them, but my curses fizzled. Now I worry I will never avenge my motherâs death.â
âDo not be afraid,â said the well. âI will take care of this.â
The next morning, when the Mayor came to fetch water from the well, he heard an odd noise coming from the bottom. He peered over as far as he could to see what was happening. Then an impossibly long arm shot up from the bottom of the well, grabbed the mayor, and pulled him into the well shaft. There was a horrible crunching sound, and nobody ever saw the Mayor again. The townsfolk apologized to the witchâs daughter, and they all lived happily ever after.
Moral of the story: living well is the best revenge

They stood before the ancient temple, anticipation, hope and fear mingling in their chest. "Goddess! Goddess, I am here to seek a wish from you." A soft voice answered, whispering from the entrance and the very stones vibrating with a powerful presence. What do you seek, devotee? "I seek to become a girl, oh goddess." You already are a girl. Your soul is the soul of a girl, your mind a girl's mind. You yourself know that you already are one. What else could I do? "But my body isn't that of a girl. Goddess, I seek you, change my body to be that of a girl." Your mind is that of a girl. You are a girl. So, your body is also a girl's body, already. 'But if my body and mind are already those of a girl, why don't I feel like one? Answer me this question, goddess?" You don't feel like a girl, because you don't believe in yourself. You don't believe in what your own body and mind tell you. How can you believe, that I could help you change your mind and body, but not believe yourself? I don't know your wishes before you speak them. And I can only fulfill those, which you yourself can't fulfill. "But how can I bring myself to believe that I am a girl?" You are already on the way. Answer me this: Would a man ask a goddess to be changed into a girl? Would a man question if he could believe those thoughts, that tell him he already is a girl, or would he outright deny them, because he knows he is a man? "No? I doubt a man would do this." Then embrace the truth. Embrace that you aren't a man, but a girl, who feels like a girl, with a girl's mind and body. Come on. Say it! "I ... I am a girl? I am a girl!", she said, a smile forming on her lips. Very good. Now go, and live your life as the real You, instead of searching for it in ancient temples and trying to trade boons with goddesses for something you already own. With that the presence left, leaving behind the girl standing before the ancient temple.

Hi, I just wanted to know what you think about this conversation I had with someone on a punk subreddit recently.
I said in a comment that being punk is about the values first, using your explanation about caring for and helping the community and people and just being a decent human being, and that it doesn't matter what music you listen to.
They responded that it it's contradictory to not listen to the music in a music-bases subculture, that there is no particular set of "punk values" and that you need the music before anything else. Otherwise whatâs the point in calling yourself a punk? Why align yourself with it if youâre not apart of the subculture, going to shows, etc.
So, I just want to know your input on this.
Also, I really love your blog and appreciate the important work you and others like @my-chemical-ratz are doing here. Your blog was my gateway for learning about punk history and philosophy. Thank you for this!
Okay. To start this off, Iâll state that not everyone agrees with me and my views (as youâve discovered). The punk subculture has as diverse opinions as the rest of the world, hence why the word poseur gets thrown around so much.
To simplify things, there are three different aspects of punk:
The Music - âPunk Rockâ music came about in the late 70s/early 80s. (Fun fact: the word punk has been used to describe music since 1899)
The Aesthetic - lets all be real honest, we know that this look came about for two reasons. The first is that docs were work boots that used to be cheap. Actually all the clothes were cheap. The second is that DIY mending and creating was. Get this. Also cheap.
The Ideology - perhaps the heart and soul of the modern punk movement, that has stood the test of time despite the evolution of the music.
To some, the music is more important than rest of it. And to some the look is more important. However, to the longevity of the Punk Culture, its the ideology that is without a doubt the most important. And before anyone yells about how âpunks dont have a real culture! It was always only music based!â Umm⌠actually you are wrong.
^^^ wow that certainly sounds like a culture to me, doesnât it? :)
Now Im gonna say something a bit contradictory though. Not all punks follow the exact same set of values. Whaattt??? But how can that be??? Easy. If you take a skinhead and a straight edge, you certainly wouldnât expect those two groups to have the same values would you? But they are still both punk groups. So then how does one define punk values? Well, to put it simply, we dont.
So then, how is the ideology the key to the longevity of punk? Think with me for a second now. There is *something* that ties all punk sub groups together.
Caring about your community
Woah!! Iâm sure someone is going to yell about how those racist people who walk around with white ladder laces donât care about their community. And well, I hate to have to say this to get my point across, but they do. They just have a very different definition of community than the rest of us. (Hence part of why the phrase âNazi punks fuck offâ exists)
But in general, for the rest of us, what does caring about our community look like? Standing up to the government. Being critical of politics and laws. Being loud and proud about who you are so that others feel safe with you. Etc.
But how does that relate to keeping punk alive? What are all the songs about?
The music is so important to the scene because its full of punk values and ideology. If the sound of the music itself was what was more important, then theres no way weâd have music branches like ska, crust, post-punk, pop-punk, skate punk, folk punk. Because those all have a unique sound. What ties them all together Isnt the sound, its the ideology. And if we want punk to be a sustainable culture, we need that ideology to live on.
Will everyone agree with me? No. Thats just the way of the world. But in my opinion, the music isnt 100% necessary to be a punk. Its the values that are important, not the sound of the music you listen to. Besides, to the outside world, it doesnât matter what you listen to. Youâre still a troublesome punk regardless.

1924: Hitler is convicted for an attempted coup of the government known as the Beer Hall Putsch. He would go on to ascend to power some 9 years later, using the government to convict his political opponents, ban gay and trans people, and conduct a genocide on the Jewish people as he had said that he would.
2024: Donald Trump is convicted of multiple felonies, and is tried in more, including one for his attempted coup of the government on January 6th. He openly states that he intends to pardon himself and his cronies, ban trans people, restrict womenâs right to choose, use the federal government to convict his political opponents, and help Israel âfinish the jobâ in conducting a genocide in Gaza.
Those who donât learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Do not placate yourself: the man has already told us what he intends to do.

I hate when people think that punk is *only* about music and completely ignore the entire culture built around it.
People like this will claim that you canât be punk if you dont like the music, a single aspect of what punk is. In that case, you cant be punk if you are not an activist, if you do not partake in DIY, if you do not protect your community, if you do not make zines, etc.
By their own definition, not conforming to a single aspect of punk makes you not a punk, most of these people are also not punks! They just want to listen to the music without being immersed in the culture of it.
Sorry not sorry, but simply enjoying and listening to punk music does not make you a punk. All it means is that you like a certain genre of music. Similarly, listening to country does not make you a cowboy.

It ain't about all the friends you made, but the graffiti they write on your grave.
was talking to my gf about my fear of dying young for being trans and my mom putting my deadname on my gravestone, and she said "i hope that never happens, but if it does, i will carve your name into your grave myself if i have to." and i think theres something extremely raw about that sentiment and trans community in general. you can kill only our bodies, but you cant kill transsexuality
