Thinking about specifically Ending B Abella tonight because I’m feeling sad.

She literally changed career paths to reach an impossible goal to communicate with the moon. After (allegedly) causing a massacre to survive the festival of Termina, she is obviously trying to make it all worth it because otherwise all she lived through to get to that point got her nothing and I don’t think she’s coping at all with that.

That and I keep thinking about the theory that. She might as well know very very well that the goal to communicate back to Rher is impossible. Not with the method she’s having anyway.

I keep thinking about her pursuing an impossible goal because even if she fails to reach that exact goal (which is communicating with the Moon the same way the Moon communicated with her) she will still try it again and again and again because she does not want to be confronted with the fact that what she had to do to come out alive of this festival was all for nothing, so she drowns in her work to the point of taking new courses on astrophysics, things she did not study before Termina. Astrophysics courses last from four to six years, that’s already a lot.

She does not want to dwell on the fact that she, allegedly, had to kill people to save herself. So she focuses on what she learned, fixates on the most extreme and the most inaccessible thing she learned about during these three days, and it becomes for her an obsession.

I think this is very sad, and while yes most of the Ending Bs are that way, Abella’s especially to me read as her being driven nearly insane by her guilt, to the point that she obsesses with something she won’t ever get so she doesn’t reflect on what happened to her otherwise she will realize it was all pointless. She managed to get a spaceship to launch but we know she won’t succeed communicating back to Rher.
