TIL Dr. Sigmund Freud was addicted to smoking and failed to quit for good throughout a 45 years long battle that included 33 operations for cancer of the jaw, an artificial jaw replacement, and attacks of “tobacco angina” exacerbated by nicotine . He was known to smoke up to twenty cigars a day.

oh I didn't realize you used to be a huge piece of shit
now this may surprise some of the audience, but the majority of humans have to survive a phase called "being a teenager" and the results are often catastrophic

Franz Kafka?
Franz Kafka has a Ryu Number of 2.
(explanation below)
The Brave New World expansion for Civ V reworked the culture mechanic, and part of that was revamping the Great Artist unit from a general creative person of note that could start a Golden Age or boost your civ's culture output to a more specific visual artist with a Great Work of Art tied to them. This narrowing of scope meant that some previous Great Artists instead became Great Musicians or Great Writers that could do different things.
As with the previous expansion, Gods & Kings, the list of possible Great Artists was also changed, and interestingly enough, in Brave New World Kafka can no longer spawn as either a Great Artist or a Great Writer. So in a sense, his appearance is mutually exclusive with anyone who appears only in Brave New World, such as Brazilian leader Pedro II.
This doesn't have any actual bearing for this blog's purposes, since the relevant links out of Civ V are all in the base game. It's not a time-limited appearance either, since Kafka can be restored to Civ V at any time simply by uninstalling Brave New World entirely. Still, I believe this is the first instance of this particular edge case with downloadable content, so that's kinda neat, I guess.
