thing that drives me insane about thistleclaw defense that amounts to "he's not bad because he was a nice husband and father" is that the father bit isnt even true. dude was literally beating his son. the narrative that bluefur cruelly stole whitekit from his grieving father isnt even really true, thistleclaw stopped interacting with whitekit of his own accord and crookedstar's promise has thistleclaw gloat that his son is a stupid pussy. and even if bluefur stole whitekit, again, the guy was beating his son. it'd be weird if an adult DIDN'T step in and go "cut that shit out" and removed the child from that situation.
also even if all that wasn't a factor, wouldn't thistleclaw having loved ones make him a BETTER villain, rather than disqualifying him as one? imagine he adores whitepaw to the ends of the world, and yet he still abuses tigerpaw and spottedpaw, and he still gets tiny maimed. give whitestorm conflicting feelings about the man, how he knows thistleclaw was a monster but he remembers the better parts of him, but he puts that aside to help out spottedleaf and tigerclaw? wc fans want more compelling villains but they apparently can't even comprehend a villain who's nice to someone sometimes.

what makes bluestar so compelling is how often her fairness is often turned against her. she helps drive out brokenstar from shadowclan and bring back windclan only to have them team up to attack her, she spares brokenstar's life and he teams up with tigerclaw to attack them, she continuously gives tigerclaw the benefit of the doubt and he betrays her. her devotion to her own notions of fairness and justice, notions that often contradict what clan culture says one should be, continuously blow up in her face. she was told she was going to blaze through the forest like fire and now this is all she can see.

the last book saw dovewing escorted out of her birth clan to her former clanmates spitting insults and accusations with this scene showing how dovewing cannot do as much as visit her baby nieces and nephews for the first time without being continually hectored by everyone around her and alderheart decides that the real tragedy is how hard it's going to be for ivypool to impress the proper social prejudices upon her children in the face of their aunt's shameful DEI lifestyle 💔
