My 45s
The Virtues - Guitar Boogie Shuffle (1959)
The prima version of this tune, by Arthur Smith in 1945, is one of the singles regarded as THE first rock 'n' roll record.
Smith himself said he based it on a tune by Tommie Dorsey from 1929.
When The Virtues version made it to the US Top 5 rock 'n' roll was already on its way back with Little Richard into Gospel, Buddy Holly in his grave and Elvis waiting to be releasedatum from the army.

REM - So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)
IRS/CBS 1983
For me REM is the pre-1990 version. I first heard Radio Free Europe in '82 on Dutch National radio. Bought the single immediately. Gave it to a griend, Who became a bigger REM fan yhan me. But this follow-up also brings back fond memories of happy times.

Dr John - Right Place, Wrong Time
(Atco 1973)
Invented his own style of New Orleans R&B with hints of voodoo and psychedelica.
Former Wrecking Crew member and former Nighttripper had this hit in '73.
