天空中的地球
《大众天文学》:
第十一种运动比以上的十种更令人瞩目,它使得太阳越过星空,地球和别的行星也随着太阳同时越过星空。自有地球以来,它从来没有两次在相同的位置上,它也绝对不会再回到我们现在所处的位置上来。我们在星空中沿着无穷尽而且时常变化的螺旋圈而运行。还必须指出,地球随着太阳在银河系里转动。所谓银河系,是指由1000亿个太阳组成的星系,它和别的以亿记的类似的星系分布在空间里。也许银河系在所谓总星系里,也是同样地在转动着。
最后,地球本身也在改变它自己的形态,这是它作为一个行星在不断地运动中所不可避免的结果。就以我们生活的短时间的尺度来说,这些变化,有日月的吸引力所引起的潮汐,周期地不但吸起海面,也吸起了陆面;主要的气象现象,使大气里的空气团和水汽团移动;从地理纬度的变化而发现地级的移动,虽然微小但却存在;还有地球自转速度长期、不规则的和季节的改变以及地震、火山等等现象。以地质史的长期尺度来说,这些变化有因地壳的变形造成了山岳,再因流水的冲刷削平了山岳,海洋和大陆的变迁��沧海桑田的改观。总之,在几亿年之间,地球的面貌已是大不相同了。
