Lesbianism and Sabrina Carpenter
So for a while now I've been questioning whether I identify as bisexual or lesbian. For now, I have decided that lesbian is the label I am most comfortable with. That being said, I have been with significantly more men than with women and it's scary to -lose isn't the right term- but give up that option. It's scary because that option was there and it was easy. Even if I'm not everyone's type (and I'm not) it was fairly easy to get men to want me, pursue me, and tell me things that (mostly) made me feel good about myself. It's not easy to give up that kind of validation, especially since it's something I have craved for so much of my life. Moving away from that in real life is somewhat difficult, even if I know it's the right choice for me.
This brings me to Sabrina Carpenter. I've only listened to about four of her songs but every single one of them fulfills the need I feel for male validation through the sheer confidence she exudes. The first verse of Espresso after the chorus is so good.
"I can't relate to desperation My 'give a fucks' are on vacation And I got this one boy And he won't stop calling When they act this way I know I got 'em"
Do I want a man to be paying me attention? Not particularly. But I love how I feel when I sing that with her. I don't know. It's very helpful to feel that validation vicariously while shifting into this new way of thinking about myself. Anyway, thanks Sabrina.
